I kind of want to visit the combes to just see if we can somehow Mathilde our way into gaining Clan Moulder favour.

@BoneyM you mentioned hobgoblin tribes, ogres, cathayan warlords visiting Uzkulak, how about vampires, dark elf corsairs, tomb king minions? Also will you introduce non-WFB Army races (or your own races) from Ind and Khuresh like Snakemen, Elephant-men and Monkey-men?

Yay! Mathilde has successfully stolen a Karak from Chaos. Ranald has got to be smugging at anyone he can about this.
Max is the third and final of those that were on counterspell duty, and he's just as out-of-sight and subsequently easy to find as Michel, and for much the same reason; he's tucked himself away in his room and at your enquiry says to leave him be unless it's dinner time or another attack is happening. A few soft questions pries out of him that his own participation earned him a splitting headache, though it can't be too bad since it doesn't stop him from describing it at length to you once he gets going. You're quite used to Max and his foibles, and nodding along while he complains is a small price to pay for his able assistance, so you allow him to exhaust his grumbling before you excuse yourself and move on.
Heh. Grumpy Max is cute.
The final Wizards to check up on are Esbern and Seija, and your being done with the others neatly coincides with some of the Knights of Taal's Fury returning to the Expedition. Their vigil over the Expedition's flanks had them clash with the mounted Daemonettes, and over a series of inconclusive skirmishes and cat-and-mouse chases through the mountains the Seekers were thoroughly scattered. Most of the Knights are still out hunting them down one by one, but the threat they pose to the Expedition is likely neutralized, as it would take too long for them to reunite in sufficient numbers to pose a significant threat.
Well, that's a win for the kittybirds. The Seekers will dissipate as surely as if they'd been killed, and this preserves forces.
"We leave. Send word to Praag for them to send word to Karaz-a-Karak, and they'll have a gyrocopter full of Longbeards trying to coax them out by the time we get back. Best we can do. Look, I won't pretend that I know the inside of a Dwarven head better than you, but I do know how to manage paranoia. I grew up in a College dedicated to it."

"She's right," Johann says. "Like long-tailed cats in a room full of rocking chairs, the lot of them."
I imagine that it's kind of an occupational hazard for Greys to get lost in spirals of suspicion leading to paranoia. Also, I note that for all Mathilde has an ego, she is quite willing to allow it to be punctured if it helps the mission.
Those poor Horstmann Quest bastards are getting ever more confident that we are a Tzeentchite and ever more frightful about what our plan is, aren't they?

I mean, 'accidentally' discovering and ruining a plot of the Excessive? Disappearing for days under suspicious circumstances and probably returning with books?

The Grey is sus as fuck.
That's the standard position for the Light College, though.
Belegar's official support for this expedition was one wizard assigned to help with preparations, and you can bet he's going to be smug as hell about it.
Technically three wizards, plus an indeterminate amount of money. Johann and Max are officially Mathilde's subordinates.
It's tradition, really. KaK send only Kragg the Grim to Belegar's expedition.
KaK also supplied a fuckton of runic bling, IIRC.

I looked it up, and here's the(/a) quote
At the core of it all are Clan Angrund itself: barely a thousand strong, but each armed with runic weapons and clad in rune-struck armour thanks to the contributions of the vaults of Karaz-a-Karak and the Master Runelord of Karak Azul.
So that could be taken as KaK giving a bunch of runic items for the expedition. But it also mentions Karak Azul, and they haven't been in contact for a good while, so that at least wasn't a contribution to this expedition. So my reading is that both holds have given Angrund runic items in the past (they're noted for being completly blinged out multiple times), likely when prior Kings of K8Ps came for help.

But the contribution of KaK specifically for the actual expedition was just Kragg.

Maybe it's not very Grey of me, but I'm quite happy never visiting Uzkulak until such a time as we have an army at our back or are able to sink the entire thing down into a Pit of Shades.

I would rather not visit slave-torture-central, unless it's part of a specific mission to rob and/or destroy it.

I honestly do want to check out Chaos Dwarf Marienberg but I'd rather not take a chip out of our dwarf rep and I don't want to give the local weirdos any ideas on the Expedition.

Unles you are planning to assault the chaos dwarves, i don't think the two situations are comparable.
And we didn't even know of enemy presence at Karag Vlag when we got there.

We weren't planning to save Karak Vlag at the time when the option to visit it was listed. It's a perfectly comparable choice. We literally don't know what we can or can't do with the Chaos dwarves port city with out visiting it.

We might as well not do it now, when we've no actual plans or intent to do anything about the place.

There are three other possibly four other slots for talking to people, there's no reason not to do this unless you think the other social slots are so utterly critical we can't do with out it, personally I have extreme doubts as to that. We have enough social slots even if both 'side' quest slots get picked to have talked to every major expedition person. As for what we intend to do there it's dependant on what we find but I'm absolutely willing to spend gold on books.

We can just... not tell the Chaos Dwarves about the expedition...

And the Expedition was willing to buy supplies from Chaos Marauders without batting an eye or doing anything to our dwarf reputation. It's hard to grumble about you visiting people who officially don't exist.
