No it just automatically decreases the step of success/failure by one. So in this case it would have been a failure, but if they had enough bonuses to make even a 1 a critical success it would have dropped to just a regular success

The original conceit was that going over the DC by ten is a critical success, but I am reexamineing that as of recent because I'm not sure of that specifically because of that 10% chance.
I end up talking a lot of this over with a handful of people on Discord

Well, the criteria are that it needs to be compatible with magic, or at least neutral to outright blatant magic(in space, if magic is possible at all there's going to be instances in other systems, since Sailor Moon had interstellar magic civs). They's also need to not be competing for uses of the planets established by Sailor Moon
So Nanoha could fit, because they're magitech and they mainly travel along the Z-axis.
Ami snorts at the suggestion, but does nod and sigh. "It would probably be a good idea for us to do something about that before someone gets hurt. The real question is," Ami starts, before turning to Usagi "Should we... like stop in a bathroom and transform first, or go up to the Roof without transforming?"
Usagi thinks for a moment, continuing to stare up at the Demon hanging outside of the third floor. "He's up all the way on the third floor, there aren't any Junior High classes up on that floor. Anyone sees us, and they'll end up dragging things out for longer than we can afford to waste." The girl grimaces, glancing around. "If there was just somewhere out here that we could transform without being seen, then we could scale the building much faster from the outside."
Naru look over to the two senshi, a slightly worried look on her face. "You remember that if someone sees you transform, then it strips away whatever weird magic prevents them from recognizing you, right?"
Ami perks up when she hears that. "So," She starts, even as a thoughtful grin spreads across her face. "As long as no one sees us, then everything is good right?"
Naru and Usagi slowly start to nod, unsure of what the blue haired girl is thinking. Ami practically pops up off the bench in front of the table that she and Naru are sitting at. "I know of a spot." She says. "I used to spend my lunches there, because if people saw me sitting alone, they would ask me to help them with their homework."
Naru makes a face when she hears that. "While you're eating, really?"
Ami nods, and the three quickly hurry out of the main courtyard. They go around the side of the building, towards the stairs that lead up to the second floor. Only instead of going up the stairs, Ami passes them right by. Around on the side of the stairs is a little alcove, hidden out of the way of the sun and out of sight.
It isn't much, there is an old school chair standing on the concrete floor and little else. However, it is that very lacking nature that makes the place exactly what the girls need.
Naru quickly runs from one end to the other, making sure that there isn't anyone in a spot that they could see under the stairs, before turning to the two girls, giving them a thumbs up.
"Moon Prism Power!" Usagi says firmly as she touches the Brooch on her chest.
"Mercury Power! Make Up!" Ami says as well, holding her transformation pen high.
There is a dual flash of pink and blue, and Usagi and Ami are gone, replaced with the forms of Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury. The two Senshi look to Naru, who grins, giving them a thumbs up. "Go get him, girls!"
...Unfortunately, that might have been the exact worst thing that she could have said, as the image of Naru cheering them on, mixed with the words someone sets Sailor Moon into giggles. Naru's flat stare at her best friend only makes the laughter worse. All Naru and Ami can do is sigh as they wait for Sailor Moon to finally get herself under control. "Sorry... Sorry..." Usagi says, even as her chest still quakes with smaller giggles.
Both Senshi step out from under the stairs - Sailor Moon simply leaps, flipping backwards as she lands atop the awning that gives the stairs shade. Sailor Mercury instead turns, looking up at where Sailor Moon lands, before taking a pair of steps back, and with a start she leaps - More forward than up, she lands on the railing of the stairs before hopping and grabbing hold of the metal awning to pull herself further up.
From there it is just a hop from the top of the awning to the roof. Having landed, the two Senshi quickly start to cross the roof, finding a spot where they can see the demon from above, but where he can't see them. Before either girl can even try to start making any plans for what to do with the apparent demon, the window he is next to slides open with a sharp clack.
Standing on the other side of the window is a tall girl with long black hair, and a very frustrated look on her face. "Inuyasha, what are you doing here? I said that I was going to be busy until the end of the week!"
"Yeah, yeah." The demon(?) scoffs, but there is a tightness to his movements. "I was originally just comin cause you forgot your fancy school book, and to tell you that Sango should be all healed up by the end of the week." He says, reaching into his red robe with one hand and pulling out a Physics text book, "But we've got a couple problems."
"Oh?" The girl asks, and while the two Senshi don't have the best line of sight, the girl doesn't exactly seem too convinced.
"Half of Tokyo smells like Demons." The red robed figure says. "And not like anything I've smelled before either..." The figure says.
"Wait. Are you saying there are Youkai in Tokyo?" The girl asks her voice as sharp as steel, and something starts to tingle at the back of Usagi's brain. A familiar strange sensation, and a sensation that is strangely familiar.
"Yeah." The red robed figure confirms. "A lot of them. But they ain't like anything I've ever seen before. Bunch of weird Bat demons. I saw a bunch of them flying around the city. They'd go and bite people, draining out bits and pieces of their souls right outta them. I managed to kill a bunch of them, and when they started to retreat I tracked them back to their lair. Some place in Ueno called a 'Zoo'." Inuyasha shakes his head. "That's not the worst part either. I would have just gone in there and dealt with the problem myself, but they have kids in there."
"Kids... Wait." The girl's voice goes soft. "You said the Ueno Zoo? Sōta's school is visiting the Zoo today."
"Fuck." The red robed figure says, "We don't have time to waste then. Do you have your bow with you?"
"My... I'm at school! No, I don't have my bow!" The girl yells back.
Taking a few steps back away from the edge of the rooftop, Sailor Moon looks over to Sailor Mercury. "Well, he doesn't sound like he's evil." She whispers.
Sailor Mercury nods, "And that definitely sounds like a Youma attack to me." Sailor Mercury agrees. "So... What's the plan?"
Before either girl can say anything else, a blur of red shoots up from the side of the building, arcing high enough to pass over the tall fence that lines the edge of the roof in order to keep the students safe, before the Red robed figured lands in a crouch between the two Senshi. Inuyasha stands up, glaring between the two girls, even as the student he had been talking to casually slides down off his back. "I say the plan is that you two give me one good reason why I don't tear you both to shreds." The white haired boy growls.
Usagi looks the demon square in the eye, unflinching before him. "You said there are demons attacking the Zoo." She says, "And if I'm right, then they are the same demons we've been trying to drive out of Tokyo."
The red robed boy crosses his arms, "Well, you're doin a shit job of it." He complains.
"Hey!" Usagi argues, "We've killed nearly ten of them so far."
The red robed demon simply crosses his arms, "And how long have you been hunting these things?"
"I've been doing this for just over two weeks," Usagi says.
Inuyasha blinks, surprised at the answer. "Two weeks. Huh." His gaze changes from a glare to a more appraising look. "So you've been at this for less than a month, Aight. I'll admit that a human killing ten demons in that time is a bit impressive." Then he takes a step forward, jabbing a clawed finger in their direction. "So then, why were you spying on us?"
"Inuyasha..." The girl nearly groans out. "If they've been hunting demons, why do you think they were spying on us. They probably saw you hanging off the side of the school building." The girl stops at that, blinking. "Actually, I don't recognize you, but there is something familiar. Are you..."
"Don't bother." Inuyasha grunts out. "They've got some kind of glamour up." The Demon says, "Pretty impressive one too."
Sailor Moon grins, "You can call me Sailor Moon, and this," She motions to Ami, "Is Sailor Mercury."
"The important part is that you have fought these things before, Right?" Inuyasha presses, ignoring the rather odd look that Kagome is giving the two Senshi. "So what can you tell us about them?"
[ ][Tell] Explain just the Bare Bones
-- Youma are demons that feed off of Life Energy, and they have the ability to turn humans into more Youma
-- They can be killed normally but they also have a weakness to Holy Magic
-- They are inherently faster and stronger than regular humans
[ ][Tell] Explain the Broad Sweeps
-- All of the above
-- The Youma are part of a group called the Dark Kingdom that is attacking Tokyo
-- You and Sailor Mercury are looking for Allies to help remove these monsters from Tokyo
[ ][Tell] Explain Everything
-- All of the above
-- The Dark Kingdom has been sealed away since the fall of the ancient Moon Kingdom that existed before the rise of modern human civilization
-- You are reincarnations of ancient warriors of the Moon Kingdom, searching for the other Solar Guardians and your missing Princess
-- You are entirely aware that this sounds not only insane, but completely farcical, and you worry that they might either not believe you, or think that you are lying about specific parts to make you sound better

This seems like the best choice for the moment. Let's not tell them everything in the first 5 minutes of meeting them, especially when there's a crisis at the zoo to take care of.
