On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

It isn't just that. Many of the places have been destroyed. The penalty on the rolls means that we aren't going find anything great and even if we did it would just be more research on our already huge backlog.
No?

The last time we went exploring looked like this:

(Roll, Yorri Places: 61 +10[Isolation] -10[Incursion] =61)

The Blizzard has abated, and you can now see straight to the other side of the valley all the way to the towering peaks in the far off distance.

But instead, you stare downwards, eyes boring into the odd shapes that litter this section of the valley. At first, you thought Yorri's sketches were a flight of fancy but no, they were correct.
Its a dice roll, with damage from the Incursion causing a penalty, which is frankly not that large. It has also been nearly a century of recovery time since, if that does anything.

If we roll well, we get research for Mat Sci, likely stuff Soul of the Earth applies to which mitigates the issue. If we don't, we get wealth and or favor or other goodies like rune ingredients.

A lot of these things are geological formations, it probably wasn't worth the Incursions time to destroy these if it even crossed there mind.
My complaint is that if we're looking for a single action to dump something we've got left over I want it in campaigning.

so question once we finish the healing springs and the touch capable prosthetics how much healing tourism is it going to generate amongst the dwarves.?

If we're only going to teach our apprentices the Rune of Prosthesis then we really should keep on a continual churn of apprentices. Our new trait would seem like a good way of squaring the circle. If we're highly productive on the apprentice front, that should relieve the pressure substantially.

Spears aren't a dwarf weapon. Axes and Hammers are the only real melee weapons with the very very rare sword from Gazul worshippers.

Aren't picks also considered acceptable?

Also: giant lion-eagles are acting as diplomatic mediators between us and the elves.

I love the places this quest has wound up going. :V

I'm dubious that overflowing the project will actually get an upgrade. The majority of the work was done by our apprentices and the overflow is essentially coming from getting the clergy to do the rest.
We got Earth Mover for doing as much work as the rest of the hold. Here we've mostly been coordinating so at best I think we'd expect a trait related to that, although I doubt this was impressive enough for that.

I assume most people came to the same conclusion and thats why Exploring is leading over regular Rearmed once more?

Most of the work the apprentice do is sending message and getting information Building prosthetics is still all on snorri.

Where are you heading with this? Nothing about my argument changes?
You realise that the apprentice messaging and stuff is just flavour text, an action is an action. No matter how you break it down our apprentices will have committed 4/5 (I didn't go back to count) actions, the Church will have committed 3 and Snorri will have committed 5 (3+2).
No matter how you count it Snorri didn't actually do most of the work like he did for Earth Mover and unlike Earth Mover, as far as we know he isn't competing against anyone to finish this, let alone the entire rest of the hold.

[X] Plan A Re-armed Hold Once More.

The exact reason I don't want any more apprentices for a while is precisely because people think we should print them out. Or that the possibility of having another apprentice obligates us to have one. Yes the North needs Runesmiths, that doesn't mean we have to print them out like a factory- how many of our graduated apprentices have left Kraka Drak?

Taking apprentices because we can reduced them to just a number we try to use to keep a meaningless score. It takes how immensely personal the relationship between DolgI, Fjoll and Snerra is between each other and Snorri and cheapens it because we won't get to see Snorri emotionally invested in all these new apprentices and we won't be invested either. It cheapens how integral Snorri's tutelage was to each and everyone of them.

It rejects how wearying it was for Snorri to consider that he may have outlived children he essentially helped raise and taught for longer than you or I lived.

If something would remove character development for the sake of increasing an arbitrary and self proclaimed score- it's probably a net negative. Saying 'we can just ignore these apprentices as characters to get screen time and persist in the narrative because they weren't the first' changes how fundamentally special being taught by Snorri has been depicted as.

I want to take as many apprentices as possible. Maybe a century break or something sure but never stop completely. I think it helps the race best.

[X] Plan A Re-armed Hold Once More
[X] Plan Healing for the Dawi
I'm happy with either of these. And I agree that we really shouldn't go all in on apprentices, despite the new trait. Both worried about character bloat, and I'm getting somewhat tired of the apprentice teaching actions. Can't remember the last time we had a few turns without them.

Its not like we need to have apprentices all the time. We are nigh immortal, taking break for a century to catch up on stuff is not going to raise any eyebrows.

[] Plan A Re-armed Hold Once More
-[] [Simple] Arm them, Literally: [Cost: (6 +3 -2) =7 actions] Productivity Like No Other will proc. You've been intermittently making prosthetic arms and legs for the Karak's veterans in the decades since the siege. Yet more remain. Your work has been sporadic and otherwise unorganized fashion. For many this is entirely within the remit and expectations of most Runesmiths. However you are not most dwarfs, by Grungni's beard you are a Runelord and you should be able to do more than that. Most of the work will be in designing a system that lets you find the dwarfs who need replacement limbs, work to find the best possible product for them, then go about making the limbs in question. 3 Actions + 2 Apprentice Actions.

I was under the impression that apprentice actions couldn't account for more than one third of a simple requests total action cost, though I can't find where exactly I read that. Was I just mistaken about that?

Edit: Nevermind found it, it was half the total cost.

I doubt this plan will win, but I don't feel right about skipping out on the campaign twice now, especially since Bara at least will be busy with research in the upcoming turn.

[X] Plan A Re-armed Hold with Campaigning
-[X] Campaign: [Cost: 1 action] 2 Turns remaining. Can be taken multiple times, roll for loot + ???, will add bonus to search roll. This turn: Drakkazi. Go out and aid the throng every so often during the next phase of the reclamation. Normally you're only ever really called if things have gotten serious and you're of a similar mind, but this time it seems like the beasts of the North will not bow easy to Dwarf efforts to claim it. More importantly, the sheer number of beasties gives you a chance to go hunting for things and collect their most useful parts for your Runes. 1 Action

--[X] Clerical Aid: [Cost: 30 Favour] Gain 3 progress. None are as experienced, and therefore respected, in the art of healing dwarfs than the Clergy and adherents of Valaya. See if they'd be interested in coming to an arrangement with you. In essence you'd be leveraging both the Cult's status and reach to find those who may be looking for a replacement limb, and use their trusted position and administrative experience to speed up the entire process of organizing the entire ordeal. Giving you more time to actually work with the clients and make the limbs in question, and giving them another way to fulfill one of Valaya's oldest strictures.
-[X] The Mind of Things Pt. 2: [Cost: (8 -7) =1 actions] Student of the Odd will proc. You can now see the rough path that Master Yorri took to get to the Rune of Prosthesis, you think at least. A bit more retracing of his steps perhaps, but figuring out what method he used to create a Rune so much more sophisticated than the regular Rune of Waking should provide a great deal of information, and a few more Runes, to work with. More than that, you wonder if there was even a possibility that you could induce actual sensation in the limbs, or even something as difficult or sight or hearing. 1 Action.

Here's what i think about more apprentices, Snorri would want more.

In character he loves apprentices he loves spreading his art and it's probably the action that fit's his runesmithing style the most, creating things that will have more value to the hold/dwarfdom rather than individual people.

I get that character bloat can and is becoming a problem but honestly that's like real life.
At best I can see him taking a small brake from apprentices like last time, to focus on some important project(s) after which he goes back to teaching them.

Only a very small minority is saying "snorri's teaching days are done." But I think we should wait a little more... perhaps until the current batch of apprentices are done journeying, so we can see more beardling/masters interaction. Except in the next batch, we'll make 3 apprentices :)

Edit: Snorri, when he finally meets Vragni: Producing quantity of runes? Nah, I've long since moved on to producing large quantities of extremely productive Masters. I'm making dwarfs that produce in bulk... you get more done that way in the long run. Delegation is beautiful.

Vragni: KLAUSSSONNNNN!
