Hrm.

would honestly say that given the constant refrain of "I don't think this makes sense", that this strikes me as a glitch in the description?

@yrsillar , do you think there's anything you can do to clear up the intent with EUM? The mechanics seem clear but there seems to be a disconnect on the theme that are scaring people off.

Mirror scales extremely well for us at higher power levels.

Mist scales extremely well at higher numbers of people affected.
Mirror is hands-on when we fight against someone stronger but not overwhelmingly so. For example, if we fight against the Shisugui right now. Mist Scales better against either true overwhelmingly powerful enemies where there is a risk of dying, or against enemy groups. A classic example would be a bombardment of B damage techs would have Ling Qi and allies semi-constantly getting C rank damage, which is turned to nothing with mist, and Mirror being "this one attack" is less useful there.

However, the mechanics of which is stronger actually don't really matter here because as a Domain tech it's going to scale and Yrs will do a second pass when the domain will rank up.

I think Mist is better because Domain Techs should be about things that are core to Ling Qi, and having a "My greed will safeguard my allies" works as core to Ling Qi better, imo, than "My Truth will sear an opponent's attack".

+1

I would really love an elaboration on how @yrsillar is thinking about it as a development of Ling Qi's domain, and it's supposed to work as an implementation of [The Mist].

Because right now I'm just kinda confused by it.

EUM might work wonderfully in the upcoming tournament, but I am more concerned with making sure we get back from this expedition with 0 casualties. I bet will change the people's perception of the operation. What counts as a success, in terms of, what the rumor mill will talk about? Everyone returning alive? A bunch of people dying in order to finish off some strong-ish barbarian? Bringing back the star stone is a bit of a wildcard. It might be the thing that leads people to go "Meh, she just brough a trinket from the enemy instead of actually taking down barbarians" or "The stone Ling Qi secured will allow us to turn the tables on the barbarians!"

Perhaps it's useless to worry about the opinion of the uninformed public, as we were just following orders, but still. Do the people in this setting find a Phyrric victory more honorable than a "We let some of them go, BUT none of us ended up dying." , I wonder?

Ok, the bad guy kicked his twitching arm in the air, it is up for grabs.

Let's shadow step to it, stuff it in a ring and dump it far away, the dream maybe?

The claim that Mirror doesn't work narratively is bizarre. Not literally every aspect of LQ should be about directly shielding allies. Both techniques are offered as domain techniques for a reason, and honestly Mirror is more interesting, going for a theme of 'light in mist is blinding' rather than 'mist never ends'.

Mechanically, I have no idea.

keep our precious kouhai alive and also not be squished by the first attrack a high rank cultivator throws at us, yes please.

@yrsillar The wording on TYIM seems problematic as the K-O shield doesn't have the once per fight/scene/encounter clause that other examples of the effect have. Right now nothing is stopping us from spamming the effect and having hordes of almost zombies follow us around. Is this intentional?

You can use it more than once but its sanity checked, folks reduced to 1hp will have to receive significant healing before the death protect effect procs again.

I'm not sure what you mean? Thematically these are both your previous insights and their respective techniques developing into your domain through the medium of mist. Like either one is gonna be introduced through some magibabble referencing your previous insights and such

I mean, yeah, I know that, but there's a very large people going "This doesn't make thematic sense".

I think it's more "How does this actually manifest?" Is it a horde of illusions? A severing of the senses? The Thousand Year Mist at least is something most people can wrap their heads around, but I think people are struggling to understand how EUM operates.

Or something, honestly, it seems clear to me, but enough people have gone "This doesn't make narrative sense" that it felt like I needed to ask.

I will point out we have used AM's rebuke at least once before; when we fought that giant cave-plant with the GF group in the first thread.
