I wonder what our Legionnaires will think of their new allies?
"Oh Blessed the Tree, Sea and Snake, it's just undead!"
I wonder what our Legionnaires will think of their new allies?
It could be, but I'd argue that it really isn't.That might be a bit too political for them though. Fighting alongside our armies? We'd better not be conquering this place immediately afterwards, at least.
If things go according to plan, we'll be convincing two cities of undead to join us, and I doubt we will just be leaving the land around the other cities be. Even if that isn't actually political, it will certainly look political, which is just as important. It could be, but I'd argue that it really isn't.
Ultimately it's preparing them for the Long Night by fighting against hordes of undead, some of whom are even Void-tainted. That is invaluable practice.
It's the same reason we've bothered to bring the Legion instead of just using Viserys to Shadow of the Doom everything in sight.
Also... we're not conquering the place. I'm not sure where you got that part.
I think we can have them along as neutral observers, at least. It's valuable experience they won't get anywhere else but Beyond the Wall, and they won't have a whole army and a metric fucktonne of firepower between them up there to safely watch and learn.I'd like to invite the Night's Watch mages to join as a form of practicing for the Long Night.
@Goldfish For an actual approach to warfare, I would keep the Myrdrekki acting as troubleshooters and assassins (Rovers) with the Fey of the group, with the Mind Dragons acting as communications between different groupings as before.
The Fiery Dragonbeasts can be placed at the vanguard with Viserys in the center with one group of high-to-middle tier PCs. Relath and Amrelath will be on either flank with two other groups of high-to-middle tier PCs, and then one small group of high-tier PCs stay as a reserve in the back, initially with the air forces.
The three Moonchasers will act as mobile artillery at first, but as the enemy moves out will continuously kite them and take full advantage of their half-kilometre plus direct fire range, and precede accurate fire with indirect fire of munitions on hardened targets, biggest structures likely since they'll be easier to hit.
The Manticores will remain on mobile artillery duty and ensure the enemy is constantly threatened by accurate fire even if some of our Moonchasers get kited further back from specters trying to force their hand and make them give up accurate range on more valuable targets.
The Wyverns will keep at maximum LOS distance until they have expended all of their Beetle Bomb munitions. Then they will go on bombing runs from high altitude until bomblets are exhausted, and finally engage as appropriate and preferably go after isolated pockets which don't appear to contain enemy illusionists or enchanters.
The Dothraki will take up either flank. Their mobility and our air power mean we can largely obviate the advantage of flanking forces. I would give either flank six Heralds and place eighteen in the center, along with the Harbinger. Split the Wrymling constructs evenly between both flanks.
The Hadhayosh can go with Amrelath's flank, and Bahro can go with Relath's, since both are ground-bound and will see more use there. I would keep the center mostly airborne. Which is why Nirah can go there as well, while splitting the Nagas with either flank.
The more vulnerable PCs will be split between either Rhango's command, or aboard all three Moonchasers.
1. This wouldn't be using the Night's Watch to help us conquer anything -- not only do we flat out not need them, this isn't a conquest, it's clearing out a threat to all life (which coincidentally the Night's Watch are sworn to guard against, even if their original target is elsewhere). With the way the talks have gone, I honestly don't expect the undead to join us any time soon. If anything they might join us in like three or four months after we prove our worth with providing Warforged bodies. If things go according to plan, we'll be convincing two cities of undead to join us, and I doubt we will just be leaving the land around the other cities be. Even if that isn't actually political, it will certainly look political, which is just as important.
It really looks like the Rangers (not the class, the activly fighting part of the Night Watch) is really busy already. It could be, but I'd argue that it really isn't.

I'm not talking about the Rangers, I'm talking about the mages stationed in Sorcerer's Deep who aren't out poking things Beyond the Wall.It really looks like the Rangers (not the class, the activly fighting part of the Night Watch) is really busy already.
They are making their experience.
A minor consideration, but if we bring all the Erinyes, we might as well take the Lejint too. With the above considerations in mind, we can still keep Bahro on Queenie's flank, and we could position Relath in the reserve. I also noticed I didn't really do much with the Erinyes in this write-up and we're bringing over 20. We can probably keep them with the reserves and have them act as a rapid reaction force, turning the tide in key locations.
I would include all of our 5th and 6th level Combat Sorcerers, 4th and 5th level Adepts, and 5th level Archivists, Wizards, and Mystics.[] Using the Imperial Demiplane to ferry the troops to Sathar, linking up with their force immediately.

What do we want to bring in terms of our magelings?
@DragonParadox The downside of the Demiplane infrastructure is that it's a fixed location. It's still faster than sailing or marching an army.
Fair point. Though I pity the Erinyes assigned to be their handlers.A minor consideration, but if we bring all the Erinyes, we might as well take the Lejint too.
Undead are a nice contrast to jungle-monsters.
Less trouble to keep them in check here than in Gogossos, propably.Fair point. Though I pity the Erinyes assigned to be their handlers.
Watch the queen ride out on a Necroserpent. What sort of army composition does she have?
Do we need to note some special units that the Undead posseses? Like some Artillery that catapults the wailing souls of their tortured enemies? Or is it a non-issue the moment we push forward with 30.000 men?
Sorry, it's just that I've seen so many Total War: Warhammer 2. And I get what sort of tactics will our Undead allies will utilize. I just need some details over what could they contribute?
I know that was a Khalida-joke, but remember that the people here have elephants and look at this beauty:
It's pretty bland for an undead, though. Horrific abominations are much cooler.I know that was a Khalida-joke, but remember that the people here have elephants and look at this beauty:
