Peace of Mind

Sixth Day of the Second Month 294 AC

It does not take you more than a few moments to decide. If Dany is wrong and you visit the prince again for naught, then you are not taking a risk any worse than you already did. If she is right and you do nothing, then you might return to Mardosh to find it embroiled in a civil war where its people will be the ultimate losers no matter the outcome. Better to risk acting then not acting.

That rather simple decision is soon complicated by the arrival of the Lord Protector's Herald, who has very specific notions about what it means to move 'with all due haste' as his lord bid, and his own place in this expedition. After a while even Eskil's calm and insightful commentary falls into frosty silence as the eight of you walk back through the wraith-haunted streets of the City of Soldiers.

You glance meaningfully towards Tyene. "Why do I have to deal with it?" the mental eye-roll practically audible in the thought.

"Because Ser Richard might decide to use Oathkeeper, and doing it myself would only enhance the notion of his own importance," you reply not without sympathy. "Someone does have to watch over-proud fools, be they dead or alive."

"I would not be tempted,"
Ser Richard says. "My place is at your side, Your Grace."

"I can just stay in the magic bag, there's enough air in there for the trip,"
Dany hastens to add.

This too you consider for only a moment. It would cost more power to allow the knight to accompany you, but he can play the silent guard well enough.

***

You slip away from the party, citing a desire to gather arcane reagents, before doubling back to Mardosh and once more to the Tower of the First Watch. You know a bit more of the piece you should be playing now, but the guards seem more suspicious of your presence, the shadows darker at your passage... a familiar chill upon the air. Dany's guess had not been wrong. You take the steps as quickly as you dare, the clank of Ser Richard's armored boots beside you.

The door is ajar... a hooded figure taller than any mortal man looms above Zadin, half-glimpsed phantasms swirling around it. You cannot see their faces, but the young prince surely can, broken sobs tear from his lips, shattered fragments of words you cannot guess at, but the thing surely can. It has not seen you yet.

As you gather your will and sorcery, the hooded head suddenly snaps upwards and in the depths of its hood you see a dreadful sickly light that does not illuminate aught but itself, a purpose that devours, a weight no living soul can bear. Death that is Ruin is close kin to Death that is Unmaking, the words of the Grandmaster of the Faceless Men ring in your mind. Before a daemon fallen beyond even the festering depths of Abaddon bonded to a spirit of death that has never known life... in the minds of a city of the restless dead.

Secrecy is as dead as Sarnor, now only battle remains.

How do you face the twin-souled abomination?

OOC: I know you technically have to be alive to be a daemon host by RAW, but this seemed the best way to model an elder Daemon fallen to the void and joined to its service. Not yet edited.
Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

So I'm thinking they won't be pleased if we drop a nuke in their city, but I'm really tempted to open this up by dropping a nuke in their city because sweet zombie Jesus what the absolute fuck.

Were it any other day I would've clapped my hands and congratulate this fucker of his skulduggery.

Unfortunately, he's fighting against 4 Mythic PC that could blow his blue frozen ass.

Hell yes. This is going to be fun. :D

Yeah, I'm 90% sure if we capture it, we just rolled this diplomacy nonsense.

What's there to argue? Either you take action, or you become Voidbait.

There's no middle-of-the-road there.

I'm also feeling pretty fucking vindicated. I said a few days back that the Void would be drawn to the Sarnori, and here we are. The Void is tempting the Sarnori.

So that thing's second worst save is fort, anyone feel like stress testing via Cast in Stone? Another fun option: maximized Body Harmonic. Deal ten ability damage a round, but you can't target a single score more than once every five. Showing this guy's lobotomized flesh suit to the ruler of the city will probably go over better than the charred skeleton we'd usually leave.

Other fun spells for this asshole:
Spellblight Jinx - This spell is blocked by will, so it's not ideal, but it also makes him take a DC 15 + spell level * 2 concentration check to cast or use SLAs.
Wooden Blight - Does 1d4 Dex damage a round, and when it hits zero they turn into a wooden statue. The fun part about this is that you can't just negate it with one save; on your turn you make a fort save against that round's damage which can only halve the damage. Every round you take dex damage from this your base speed is reduced by 5 * points of damage with a minimum of 5.

WB + BH set to dex would turn the base creature into a block of wood in three or so rounds.

Quell Energy stacks with itself, so hitting it multiple times at once from Viserys and Dany would makes for a fun surprise to the little bastard.

Greater Arcane Fusion Bolt of Glory and Life Bolt would be fun. Who doesn't like 20d12 PE damage? Probably inefficient, but there's something fun in beating your opponents to death with a huge fistful of dice.

[X] Plan Voidus Interruptus
-[X] Viserys targets the Soul Reaper with a Quickened Chain Dispel spell using Wild Arcana (and has it jump to the Prince as well, just in case he's been affected by some sort of magic), followed by Amber Sarcophagus. If neither his spell or Dany's captured it, he uses Amazing Initiative to activate his Belt of Battle effect to gain a Full-Round Action in order to target the Soul Reaper with another Amber Sarcophagus. If it proves necessary, he uses Celerity to cast Time Stop.
-[X] Dany extricates herself from hiding as a Move Action, casts Assay Spell Resistance, then targets the Soul Reaper with Dimensional Lock using Inspired Spell. If it is not trapped by Viserys' spell, she will use Amazing Initiative plus her Belt of Battle to gain a Full-Round Action in order to target it with a Quickened Chains of Light spell. She cancels her Battlemagic Perception spell to Counterspell anything the Soul Reaper casts as a Free Action.
--[X] If his spell fails to capture the Soul Reaper, but Dany's Chains of Light is successful, in the following round Viserys will cast Assay Spell Resistance them target is with another Amber Sarcophagus.
-[X] Richard draws Oathkeeper, activating the Keen Edge and Align Weapon(Good) effects using his scabbard, and moves to engage the Soul Reaper in melee combat if efforts to capture it fail. He uses Fleet Charge as a Swift Action to attack it, activates Avalanche of Blades to continue attacking, then if necessary uses Amazing Initiative to activate Greater Insightful Strike. If it's still active at this point, he uses his Belt of Battle to gain a Full-Round Action to perform another full attack.

Whats the advantage to using wild arcana to get a chain dispel over Viserys just casting a greater dispel?

Dany's sacramental seal should require a roll of between 5-8 for it make its will save, before any buffs/magic items on it are considered. Do you think casting this is better than buffing Visery's hit chance for the amber sarcophagus?

Wanna bet the Fate-turning will save the day yet again?
