So i started reading this a couple days ago and I'm barely in the thousands, and it's honestly great and I'm absolutely loving it.
Viserys is about to start pirating and everything is still going great. With one exception, Tiamat.
I haven't read the up to date character sheets so i don't spoil myself to much, but i have to absolutely know this:
Is Daenerys still serving the fucking bitch?
Hello, and welcome to the quest.

No, Dany does not serve still Tiamat, and hasn't for years. You'll see soon enough.

Part MMMDXXXIX: Souls and Secret Watchers
Souls and Secret Watchers

Twenty Fifth Day of the First Month 294 AC

Though you have no great interest in the scroll's contents you offer half again the asking price, all the better to obfuscate your identity. It would not do so to seem too tightfisted in the very first exchange. Somewhat to your surprise the envoy of Mammon seems to share your lack of enthusiasm, the bidding quickly devolving into a contest between the angel's whispered voice and Kimu staking coin in their thousands, one atop the other in measured increments quite unlike her earlier cheerful intensity.

In the end the lore passes to Elariel the Enduring, as you find the angel's name to be, for a price six time the starting bid, drawing a huff of annoyance from the sky mage. "He's probably going to lock it in some vault so only the 'righteous' can use it, you watch."

You offer a sort of noncommittal nod in exchange, looking to the shugenja who alone of all of you had not made even a token offer. If you might hazard a guess as to the mind behind that steel mask from posture alone you would call it faintly amused at the proceedings and watchful, as only one who has lived through a long age of peril can be said to be.

Hardly needing to pause for breath Eshyr draws a second piece from his cavernous maw, this one not a scroll but a hand-sized painting, 'crafted with finest alchemical dyes upon mithral glass' depicting the very moment when a lost soul-shard scholars call asphyx arises from a newly fallen corpse. At first you do not understand why a painting, even one so uncommon, would be part of a collection of lore... then you take a closer look at it with more than mortal senses...

"This piece of oracular glass will allow the owner to access the senses of the soul captured within, to hear melodies unknown to either the living or the dead. It is advised that those of weak will or who have partaken of brain-softening stimulants not make use of this artifact in their research, the spirit will unfortunately attempt to drain the life of any who meet its gaze for too long...." the auctioneer continued cheerfully, seemingly unaware or uncaring that beneath the veneer of calm in the stained glass that the soul within was screaming without voice while stretched in dimensions it had never been meant to take on, a lens forged in endless torment.

"What purpose does this... device have?" the shugenja speaks, a strange double echo to their words, as though using some imperfect means of translation, perhaps an intermediate spirit as opposed to the more common spell. You cannot even tell if it is a man or woman behind the mask, only that they are intrigued.

You feel as much as hear the faintest hiss of air displaced somewhere behind you. Something had been surreptitiously summoned or it had willed itself into the defiled temple behind you, though when you can look without drawing undue attention there is nothing in sight.

The merchant does not seem to notice, answering the question instead. "It allows a soul-smith greater precision in their art, such as the setting of enchantments the soul cannot refuse rather than counting upon what may be laid upon mere flesh, the removal of soul deep and generational curses, conversely the placing of blessings. It is quicker to ask what good it does not have, better light to work by for the craftsman."

That could be of great use to Lya, assuming you could find some less horrific means to make use of the spirit's knowledge, though how likely you are to be able to do that is more than you can guess at a glance from the torturous instrument.

Second Piece on Offer: Asphyx's Agony (Device that gives better perception of souls beyond the usual suite of spells used in such workings, granting +7 to all practical experimentation with raw soul-stuff)

Asking Price: 20,000 IM

Do you bid for it?

[] Yes
-[] How high

[] No, observe the other participants for now

What do you do about the potential summoning or translocation?

[] Speak up
-[] Write in

[] Be silent and observe

[] Write in

OOC: I tried to introduce the next piece too, but that just split focus and took it away from the reactions of the other auction-buyers and onto just another list of stuff to buy.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

Ehat does Varys say about the teleporting creature?

He can't see it, the only reason he heard it is because dragon senses are very sharp indeed. Silently using both see invis and true sight does not reveal it which emans one of two things:
  1. It is either using Superior invisibility or similar and staying out of the 120 ft cone of True Sight
  2. Or it has some kind of invisibility that beats true sight and is closer

True Seeing defeats Superior Invisibility actually.

What's the layout of the room? Are there any places someone could hide behind nearby, such as a bookshelf or stone column?

Could it be that the wards on the temple itself interfere with True Sight?
If there is a Lair Ward of Mindblank active we could miss something invisible without knowing why.

It does, but it only has a 120 ft range, anything beyond that is out of sight

The room is 500 ft in diameter and there are column and broken statuary scattered throughout. the closest is about 50 ft away from the center where the auctioneer is standing, 60 ft from Viserys.

That's very nice. I really want that as a gift for Lya. It would help tremendously with all her future research.

I feel like Viserys could have inherent paranoia do a lot of the work for finding this creature. Lightly remark upon its presence, appearing unperturbed and seeking to continue. Most, perhaps all, of those other bidders are natives; The consideration some enemy spies upon such will not be dismissed.

Though.. another notion presents itself; How exactly did Viserys detect this, @DragonParadox ? Could an illusion next to such be used to fool his senses? Get the stone-born unknown archmage to react?

Do we care much about this, telefragging bs, though?
Unless it's an elaborate plot to get a piece of every attendant's body for ritual purposes, or soemyujng equally hair-brained.

The bid is interesting enough, although not 100% the stuff we came here for.
I won't die inside if we lose bidding for it.

[X] Yes
-[X] Up to 80'000 IM - we are interested, but not to the point of going for it fanatically.
[X] Be silent and observe

[X] Yes
-[X] Get into a bidding war for it. Do not offer more than four times its starting bid.

-[X] Quietly remark that it's awfully drafty in here, for all the fact that the air is still.
