[X] Goldfish

Wow. Amy's been working kinda fast hasn't he? And Archduke? Huh, does the Lady of Spears really have that much soul capital? Thought you needed at least a couple continents worth of souls to even put in your resume for that position.

So... could we theoretically have Meraxes usurp the Lady of Spears' position?

We only have two means to stop a god. Either we kill it (outside our power level at this moment), or we render it without followers. Considering that only unsullied follow the Lady of Spears, ending with the unsullied would end her too.

It might be Asmy got tired of having a GAPING HOLE in his Pact Primeval. Toss Mamnon out, relieving himself from this particular treacherous (and inept so far) underling, for a fresh face he presumably has much tighter reins on and in possession of an excellent local fighting force.

But could of course, be a bluff. The logic above makes it even more of a potential bluff, really.

The reason I think it is a bluff--Mammon is in the position he is in after a failed, massive rebellion.

He was deliberately placed there, in the position he is in now.

Asmodeus' motivations are a little too incomprehensible to guess at. Better to assume a misdirection is likely while keeping in mind all pertinent details currently known for fact.

I mean, let's be honest, our "loophole" isn't even close to being a problem to Asmodeus on the scale the Hells operate.
We snagged, at most, a beggar's pittance in terms of relative strength Hells regularly put out.

I really doubt that our actions are gonna play any role whatsoever in any decisions here.
Let's not fool ourselves, we had enough trouble in-quest doing that.

Getting more information would help.

Making assumptions has bitten me in the keister more times than I can count.

Her getting Mamon's post might be bluff, but her getting a Layer is likely not one.
Going from minor deity to Archduke is a step sideways, not upwards.
Trying to get her on his side while offering less than that seems unlikely to work.

Unless he has some totally different plan, like fully occupying and transforming Heaven into another layer of Hell and then make her the boss of that.
That would certainly be a coup worthy of Big Red.

I think the dukedom is a misdirection. It's useful, and eye catching but I dont know of it fits what little we know about her.

I am not a follower of hers but fat stacks of cash and some acres doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would move a war goddess of the unsullied.

I think he promised something more personal. Power, revenge, safety, ect...

We know very little about the goddess of spears.

It's propably not about cash or land.

She is a goddess with few followers. If we win in Slaver's Bay (not now, but in a year or two) there will be no more Unsullied made.
That's the base of her faith, and it will end. In a generation or a few. A mere moment by the reconing of gods.

Dukedom means she can sustain herself indefinitly as an Archfiend, with no need for those worshippers.
Problem solved, goddess saved.

I wonder if her ascension will fast track her Unsullied for Diabolic apotheosis? If they all fall over dead and rise as Legion Devils, that would be a sizable army of deadly warriors on Planetos.

Well, Azel said the thing with Slaver's Bay was somehow linked to the plot in Hellven, which currently has a general, but not an archduke.

And I've been saying for a long time that Hellven is actually layer 0 of Baator...

Driving these Houses any "deeper" into the 'clutches' of Baator would basically require using them as a suppository and a rare moment of vulnerability in Asmodeus' boudoir.

I'll leave you all with that image now.

If we are at the point where we have written off most of the cities Gov. Why aren't we going totally scorched earth?
No time for it.

And regardless, you are missing the forest for the trees. The Sons of the Harpy (the local "native" slaver faction) aren't competent enough to pose a threat. If propped up or even having their power shored up, we could still dismantle it.

In contrast, leaving Baator free to act will mean they will advance their agenda in ways we cannot predict, control or maybe even recover from.

Chances are Asmodeus gets his way and succeeds in one or more aspects of his plans regardless of what we do, since even our very actions are accounted for with failure set up to turn into success by the very nature of that failure.
