I dare say we'll have to make that an on-screen thing though, kinda too big a change to not to.

Hm.
not that I think about it...
@Azel, which perma-spells would fit Sandor best after his Pretorianisation? Maybe some of the above?
We can make him obscenely killy.

-[X] Bottle the Angel and her Agathion friend using Smoky Confinement scrolls so they can be transported to Sorcerer's Deep without undue haste. If she is going to Fall, we can at least ensure she does so in a controlled environment with proper monitoring equipment and personnel on hand to help, should it be needed (Lya would certainly wish to observe). Otherwise, if she desires, perhaps she can try to anchor herself to a different Plane entirely, such as the Realm of the Ferryman or Storm Father, or swear herself into Yss' service so that He can intervene.

Interlude DCCXCIV: The Valor of Youth
The Valor of Youth

Fourteenth Day of the First Month 294 AC

City of Brass, Bazaar of a Thousand Sins

The empty scrolls blackened and crumpled under the power of Maelor's magic. He could have kept them of course, it was still fine vellum even with the magic burned away to seal what would hopefully be the King's newest recruits, but such spells of confinements were seen with suspicion in the City of Brass, able to seal and spirit away one of the efreeti to make use of their wishcraft at a mortal's will. Who knew what the Wallmakers might be able to divine even from such scraps. Better safe than with the Dervishes a the door.

Sixteenth Day of the First Month 294 AC

Though Maelor continued to diligently comb the slave markets when he had the time the Middle City held nothing so uncommon as the pair of celestials. There were a few large scale transfers of souls from Heaven's Shore, what would in older times have been petitioners at the gates of Heaven who in time would add to the legions of archons, but those deals were not struck in the Bazaar of a Thousand Sins where petty merchants could bid on them openly. However, Bronn had supposedly met up with a middling sized band of mercenaries willing to take on 'an unlimited contract' far away from the City of Brass. Likely they had drawn the ire of some efreeti Malik, so it might not be worth the risk of exposure to hire them, but it might be worth looking in, under a suitable false guise of course, and with Sarell along to provide protections should things go ill.

The inside of the smoke den with dim and filled with the exhalations of dozens of vices, enough to cloud Maelor's sight for a moment though not that of his companion. "I will meet with the mercenaries from now on," Sarell sent, the tinge of her mind-voice bitterer than any miasma.

"You hate drinking and smoking a hookah," Maelor sent back reasonably.

"Indeed," the fury replied. "Look with sight beyond what thine eyes of flesh can see upon our would-be hirelings."

So Maelor looked upon the trio of warriors, half-men armored in polished steel stained red, as blood half-scorpions whose plates looked like they could shed even heavier blows looked fearsome indeed. Fifty such soldiers might prove a great boon to the realm, particularly as they bore the mark of deathless flame. Then he looked again, the warriors dd not thankfully prove to be three mephits stacked atop one another, they were still warrior scorpionfolk of the blazing deserts beyond even the dream of water, the only troubled was...

"They are children," Maelor sighed. He was no expert on how scorpions grew, but from looking at their human halves he guessed none of the trio was older than thirteen and the youngest looked about nine.

Thankfully when confronted with the truth of their appearance between Sarell's imperious glare and Maelor's more understanding manner the leader of the three, who called himself Amir, explained their tale.

Their company of fifty was all that remained of a much larger tribe after their elders almost fought to the last against a salamander raid, losing much of the tribe's wealth in the process. The handful of surviving adults were picked off by bandits on the scorched plains before the Gates of Brass leaving the children with no choice but to arm and armor themselves in the panoply of their fallen elders and offer their lances to the highest bidder, or at least the one willing to take them away from the city as fast as possible.

"Our agreement with the Brazen Throne was that Clan Steelclaw would have free passage through the Dominion, but we have no clan head that efreeti law would formally accept," Amir explained at last, pincers clicking with anger. "So now all that stands between us and slavery are our own claws and the slow grinding wheels of the Office of Sublime Works."

Do you hire Clan Steelclaw?
Cost: 105,000 IM

[] Yes, they will be of great use to the realm with some seasoning

[] No, the chance of coming under scrutiny while transporting them off plane are too high

OOC: The cost above is very small because they really do need to get out of the city fast.

I was actually going for creepy, but as long as people like it... 🤷‍♂️
Hey, if ya look to the sideways and squint slightly, pretty much everything one finds heartwarming is creepy in some fashion :p

I'm kinda surprised there wasn't more autistic screeching coming from Tiamat.
Having just lost less than a month ago, and it being the second breed of a Dragon we both created and denied to her.

Did she succeed at some ungodly Willsave, or something? :V

That was neat, @Azel. You've got way more patience that me, though. Those color transitions must have taken as long as writing the chapter.

Get fucked, Tiamat. We're better at this than you are.

Hm.
Can we maybe offer them to fleshforge one of them to adulthood, if that's what the Efreeti law is stuck on?

We have the means to.

Would we be able to do such an act in a way that would pass the Efreeti scrutiny, @DragonParadox?

Having such a group on-call might be just great for us in the Plane of Fire.

[X] It should be easier to get the group into seclusion and under a pre-warded location somewhere in Molten Skies, and then pick them up from there. You will start leaning on your contacts in the Bazaar of Beggars so that anyone sniffing around the children before you make the move is identified, and then if it turns out someone is going to be tracking their every move, what to do from there, whether that be sheer bribery or pitting rivals against each other.

You could, it would probably come out as at least somewhat creepy, not many people have those kinds of capacity and those who do don't have the best reputation.

The Abyss is a very loud place right now, but the Myrkdreki didn't have to continue listening to her after formally telling her to fuck off.

Actually, there is an online tool for that.

BBCode & HTML Text Colorizer

BBcode and HTML text effect generator. Create rainbow text effects and more for your blog or forum.

It's the same thing I used for Yraels fall.

AN: The promised omake for the first Myrkdreki being made in Gogossos by our dear expert for all things Shadow and Flesh.
Yay, Myrkdreki! :D

As always, Tiamat's impotent rage is a balm to my soul. Maybe she'll eventually send us a warped Ashara and Connington so we can finish sacrificing them.

Pokemon. But that's never stopped me before.

The easiest thing would probably be to send to some battle in the boondocks. If they never appear again, everyone will just assume they got wiped out.

Stealing @Crake's vote as an alternative to the "creepy resourceful guy"-routine I'd like to try first.
They aren't weak by any means, despire their age, and we could use them here to infiltrate the CoB better.

[X] Offer them the deal: you can use the group such as their in the Plane of Fire, and specifically their freedom to move around.
-[X] You can have one of them... aged artificially, and necessary paper-trails and anti-divinatory measures set with it - allowing them to have someone who'll qualify to be an adult in the eyes of the Efreeti law - and the rest of them safe.
-[X] In return you will have them used to further your operations on Plane of Fire -- not at any risk to them, of course, their standing in the eyes of the Efreeeti law will make them great messengers and eyes for us.
-[X] We can offer a large monetary loan for them to set themselves up as necessary, at whatever percent they'll find fair but not suspicious.
--[X] If they do agree, have one of them artificially aged by one of our Fleshcraftes in utmost secrecy.

[X] Alternatively, if they aren't willing to take the above deal:
-[X] it should be easier to get the group into seclusion and under a pre-warded location somewhere in Molten Skies, and then pick them up from there. You will start leaning on your contacts in the Bazaar of Beggars so that anyone sniffing around the children before you make the move is identified, and then if it turns out someone is going to be tracking their every move what to do from there, whether that be sheer bribery or pitting rivals against each other.

Bottom line, I don't want to risk Maelor's set-up overly much, if they do agree to our offer, we get all the good with minimum of risk to his endeavors.

@egoo, just because something is physically mature doesn't mean it's mentality has reached that point. Per DP, these guys are very young. I'm also not comfortable revealing the capabilities of the Flesh Forge to these children.
