@Questor quick question: Do we pay the cost every turn for multi-year actions? I think we do, but I wanted to check.

If we do, then my plan is... quite expensive (though I think the cost is justified).

It would be... 16400 if relief efforts succeed, 15200 if not.

Out of a total budget of 18856 (treasury + net income)

It's mostly the fault of the martial options. doubling army + abolitionists is 7500 by itself, though it's mostly simply anticipating the cost from next turn.

IF we take this though we should try to spend a bit less next turn. I think we can afford it now though

EDIT: also because I'm bored I checked:

Plan: Grinding Our Old Beak Into the Overtime-stone v2 costs 11000

Plan "That´s what Heroes do" But with Scholars costs 11400

my plan (16400 cost) would basically have the 6000 for doubling the army more than these two, and to be fair if we don't pay it now we're likely going to pay it all at once next turn anyway, so it's basically a matter of "do we pay the monstrous cost now, or next turn?".

Either way we'll have to pay it.

Well, unless we decide NOT to double the army at all, which I'm not sure we can afford to.

...ok, now I am really confused about since when there are two versions of Plan: Grinding Our Old Beak Into the Overtime-stone

Somebody mind outlining the differences...and maybe do another tally?

Yes, you pay the listed cost each year.

I think we need the International Peacekeeping Force. It could potentially make the intervention much easier and have it go more smoothly if we have even one ally.

[x] Plan "That´s what Heroes do" But with Scholars

I really like both plans, but I want us to talk with the scholars. It's likely that they have a WMD that is as destructive as Pegicles', and we may be able to stop them from using it if we open negotiations with them.

Hopefully we can do Thaumatological education next turn.

so...let me try to see what would happen if the currently winning plan wins.

By taking abolitionists, relief and talking with royal guards and mages without peacekeeping and doubling army we're basically trying the diplomatic, not-invasion option, while leaving the possibility for a rushed preparation (double army sped up + peacekeeping) next turn in case talks go bad or one of the factions does something else as bad as the hurricane.

If everything goes well we might convince the mages to drop their support for house White Star, and make a deal with the royal guards. Maybe we could mediate an agreement between them and the abolitionists? As long as slavery is outlawed they don't seem to really care about WHO would rule, and abolitionists + royal guards + our support (economic and intrigue if possible, military if necessary) might be enough to stop this war once and for all.

Now, let's say we manage to make such a deal. Royal guards and abolitionists together, pegicles formally accused and condemned, and house White Star offering to surrender (they can't win any longer, ESPECIALLY if the mages decide to abandon them).

What then?

Well, there is a need for a new ruler. There are at this point three main candidates I think (Pegicles basically removed himself from consideration if any other faction has a say in it).

1)Leader of White Star (don't remember the name). Unlikely. He does not have the wealth and power he had before. He's also not especially well liked.

2) Ambrosia. IF she makes a good enough impression on the royal guards she might actually have a shot at it. She'd have to be carefull to balance concessions to the nobles with the banning of slavery. A plus to her is also that she has good relationships with us (and through us to potentially most of the known world), meaning she can get some decent trade deals and loans to quickly rebuild the country. That would be to our advantage as well, as we can get some usefull thing in exchange too magical knowledge and artifacts above all.

a relatively permissive immigration/emigration policy would allow us access to a useful pool of magic users, while allowing the willing refugees to go back to their homes (of course we're fine with keeping those wishing to stay.)

3)The captain of the Royal Guards himself. This is probably the most likely option, and as long as he's reasonable and accepts to ban slavery and is open to peacefull relationships with other countries we could probably live with it.

4) surprise option: If I remember right the leader of the royal guard is a male, Isn't it? A marriage between him and Ambrosia could solve the problem, leaving us with the best of both worlds.

Of course if we manage to end this without intervening militarily we are unlikely to get land for us, but it's not like we actually need it (though there's still a chance for a few slices of the border territory with the Crystal Empire to be traded to us, maybe in exchange for help in rebuilding).

...Still hoping that, after this conflict is over, we can try for that crystal referendum to actually get them to formally join the empire. We probably have the support of the crystal heart faith too at this point with how much we favoured them compared to the other religions. And I still want to try to make the mini-hearts!

A heart for every city, to celebrate the referendum! Only the best reagents for them!

...Uh, I wrote more than I meant to. I started this wishing to say How I think delaying military intervention we're taking a risk :p

You could always just spontaneously drop all support for the leading plans and switch to my plan. #VoteThirdParty #FightTheEstablishment :p

that's only really an option if we intervene militarly. And even then we'd probably end splitting it between us, Neighpon and Canterbury unless we went at it alone.

If we somehow end it without actually sending our army it's pretty much impossible
huh, do you guys really want the land that badly? Like, I figure that we are pretty huge as a country already. we already have the Crystal Empire under our rule. After everything we did for them, a referendum to have them officially join us as one empire is most likely going to go in our favor. Sure, the land is still a bit of a winter wasteland but every year, its going to be more and more of its once fertile land that it once was.

Getting more land at this point seems a bit greedy to me and may seem to look that way towards our allies.

Then again, if we HAVE to militarily intervene in this conflict then it would make sense that we want SOMETHING in return for all of the inevitable casualties and costs that we will incur in the military intervention. Whether or not it in the form of some land or other means of compensation is up for debate.

I dont think we really want the land but at this point military intervention seems all but certain now so were just preparing want we would want for compensation at this point which i think could go two ways either full annexation or a possible vassal state.
