Are we sure the Lady of Spears hasn't always been aligned with Hell? Or that she wasn't a Devil to begin with? The creation of the Unsullied certainly sounds like it could be of Infernal origins.
Entirely possible.

But I like the theory more that she made a Pact with Asmodeus to get back some worshippers after being dried out from millenia of Valyrian occupation that allowed no Ghiscari warriors, certainly none who would worship Ghiscari gods.
Our ancestors really fucked over this civilisation. I don't believe for a second they kept their religions intact after killing their men, salting their fields, taking over education to the point that their language is now forgotten and forcing them to become nothing but slave-traders and trainers.

Ghis delenda est.

since it doesn't reveal our hand
Haven't we already heavily revealed our involvement?
Since Devils knew to expect us not too long ago the past month, and only by luck we snagged that possessed girl?
I think, a few Mindblanked people aside, Devils probably watch our operation quite closely there.

Yeah, but we haven't shown what we're looking into. Devils disappearing in certain locations when they are assigned to do certain things can reveal a lot about what we're looking for/currently know.

with that in mind we could try to set up a false paper trail ourselves by going after devils that are not related to what we are interested in, but that could be seen through by devils who are adept scemers but might be a thought for later

"So we have at least one legitimate temple of the Lady of Spears, guarded by devils, a temple that is hidden even from those among the 'Good Masters' who have fallen for infernal blandishments." Malarys looked like he would have wanted to pinch the bridge of his nose or rub his temples in frustration, but he was much too inured with the need to control himself to do so. "The texts you discovered Lord Drekelis match the ones that are available more widely with a few key differences."

"Such as?" Garin doubted he would like the answers, but it was a poor inquisitor who hesitated to ask a question even for a moment for that reason.

"Rather than claiming the Lady of Spears has always been aligned with Asmodous theys pecifically mention that the goddess will rise again purified from the flames of Baator, greater than she has ever been."
That's a lot worse than we realized. If Asmodeus has made a deal directly with the Lady of Spears it's going to be quite a bit harder to keep the region pacified.

Also @DragonParadox, it's been a while since we got some Mammon Erinyes names. Have we really run dry on proper sources? I'm a bit worried Asmodeus will successfully replace Mammon before we manage to recruit more.

so can someone explain that last bit to me becouse i think the terms used are messing with me a bit. i never remember who the Baator are.

You guys have not been going after Manmon for a while so there's less of a chance of finding names associated with him.

Baator is hell in Infernal, the Baatezu are devils, in this context the name of the realm is used as a political unit.

We just haven't found operations from him. We'd still happily gun for anything he does.

I was hoping his humiliation in losing his Aspect against us would be enough for him to double down his efforts to corrupt Prime Material and give us more access to his devils.

How's Siduri doing in getting Devils she's friendly with into Mammon's service so we can recruit them?

okay so rise again purified from the fires of baator sounds like she is allinged with them but will rise but everyone else it taking it the opposite way so i'm just really confused now
It seems like Asmodeus is courting the goddess herself, offering to make her an Archdevil of considerable power. This is seeming less like a cult of heretics within the religion and more like a conspiracy within the religion at the very highest levels. So our mission changes from trying to save the religion from corruption to seeing what we can do to break this deal at any cost. A replacement for Mammon really isn't good for us.

so what your saying is that Asmodeus is trying to change the view of the goddes and court her so the Rise again from the fires of baator greater than she has ever been won't happen and she instead becomes an archduke

Basically she's going to pull what the first Grand Sultan of the Efreeti as we know them did. Bathing in the powers of Hell, and rising reborn. Except she's not a mere genie, she's a goddess. That's a hell of a lot more significant.

Also we've heard prior to this that the devils intended for her to become a new Archduke, so this isn't really a leap of logic for us. It's just connecting older intel to what we discovered here.

hmm yeah i think the terminoligy of the sentence is making me confused
rise purified from the the fires of baator, greater than she has ever been .
to me it makes it sound like a devil rising and becoming neutral or good but i guese it can also be read as rising from the fires of baator as a more purified form of whatever they embody

Oh, yeah. That line likely refers to purifying weakness. Like when you're forging a sword, you purify the iron before you actually make the blade. This is a forge in the sense that her soul is what's going under the crucible, and she'll be remade in Hell's image exactly how the Efreeti were. Honestly it's a pretty good deal for her, especially since we've been going around making it very hard for the Good Masters to make more of her primary worshipers -- the Unsullied.
