[X] Agreed. Sell the artifacts from the treaty directly to FCNY, along with the attendant Legitimacy boost. Gain +2 free AP for this upcoming turn.

I mean, we already are very different (better in my mind) than the old US. In fact if someone is going to claim the mantle and possibly reunite the US and stand up to Alexander, I would prefer it would be us.

Not to mention we already had a long discussion of legitimacy and what it meant, can we not retread it? pretty please?

and because I was forgoting to vote
[X] Politely decline. You'd rather hold onto the artifacts, either for the symbolic value or for later resale. Gain +5 Legitimacy

The two AP are tasty, for sure, but... I'd rather play the long game here

Problem is current events make me very nervous about assuming we can't be stung by politics even- especially- in tight corners or about key issues. Being equals is fine but being the junior partner is...concerning.

Point, that being said, low legitmacy does not mean juinor partner. We have a lot of clout and with this treaty we're going to hulk the fuck out. We'll see what we can bargin for.

I don't see any sorts of states we'd want to include that would be fatally put off by the thread's take on medium Legitimacy, no?

The fundamental ideas are perfectly fine. The icons are fine. It doesn't have to be a Xerox to use the tools to advance its goals.

Socialists/Communists? The same mood whiplash people get when they see USA but socialist cuts the other way as well: Socialists but USA.
I'm not saying that high/mid Legitimacy will be a deal breaker for Left leaning revivalists, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a turn off for some of them.

It means that you're at a position of disadvantage anyway when it comes to states that do value legitimacy, which inherently has influence as a bonus. Even if you aren't the junior partner, it likely will cause tensions.

My ideal for a "low legitimacy" run is to have middling legitimacy- not so low as to cause problems or allow us to be overshadowed by the high-legitimacy partners- equals- but high enough to allow for it to be used to push the more radical ideas by waving the flag around a bit.

At the end of the day, I suspect "revivalist" is aided more by waving a flag around than harmed.

I swear these exact same anti-legitimacy arguments came up when we found the Declaration of Independence. Remember that high legitimacy doesn't mean we're forced to act as the old US would - it's solely a measure of how much people believe us when we say we're a successor to that government.

If our goal is to re-unite the US by anything other than military force, having medium (or more) legitimacy will be a major boon - it'll convince other up and coming states that we're not just some up-jumped warlord with big guns who seized an opportunity, but genuine revivalists committed to the stated values of the old US.

Also, with the Midwest conference coming up, legitimacy will likely determine how the other successor states view us. Are we a rival for power who they have to negotiate with due to realpolitik? Or are we a fellow ally in the cause of American revivalism? I would personally prefer that we approach the table as an ally and equal, as that seems like the most likely way to start the path towards a peaceful and equitable union.

Something to consider: merging with another faction as the junior may leave us the questers in control, but it seems highly likely we'll have a measure of invonvenience from said faction's existing political structures, parties, etc. being dominant over those we have, so perhaps that should be approached with extreme caution

The benefits for the conference changed my mind.

Depends on how well we kick the Japs out of Canada...and avoid Russia.

My guess is your OC is in Canada as a surviving Officer, considering your last User name was Canadian Patriot.

I understand that to a lot of people, 'Japs' is just a shortening of the word Japanese but it has a history of use as a rather virulent racial slur so could we please avoid using it?

Heads up: in case you weren't aware, while it's an obvious abbreviation of "Japanese" and so I am not by any means assuming you did this on purpose, that particular term is generally viewed as being a slur due to the way it was deployed against Japanese-Americans during WW2, and I suggest you edit in something different.

I feel like people have forgotten that @PoptartProdigy has stated repeatedly again and again that having high legitimacy doesn't mean we'll be forced to act like the old US. Its merely what others see us as.

Also, another advantage to high legitimacy would be some of the support from abroad that FCNY has will be going to us as well.

And by the way?

General Blackwell urged the populace in a public broadcast today to remain calm and stay strong, and trust that the mobilization will be brief. "The Army is already reforming from among the brave volunteers who have risen to cast out the Cultural Marxists infiltrating our most sacred defenders," he assured constituents. "We will stamp out this revolt by Christmas, and you may rest secure in the knowledge that once more, the brave warriors of Christ in Victoria stand between you and harm."

That did not age well.

General Blackwell committed the classic blunder of declaring that the war would be over by Christmas. Of course it would end this way.

Being the successor state means we can work out all of the old bugs from the Democracy beta build 0.1776.

It doesn't mean we have to copy everything the way the old us did.
