The image of Ser Richard holding his sword upright — only to unleash a beam of magical energy is giving me all sorts of goosebumps.

"Take this, fiend. [OathkeeperUtor Incarna]!!!"

*a giant FUCKOFF beam jetlines straight towards the enemy*

*KABOOOM*

There's got to be some means of attacking from a distance with a melee weapon somewhere in the entirety of 3.5 and Pathfinder, but god knows how we're going to find it.

Blood Wind does it with natural attacks. It's slightly longer range than simple Reach gives you.

TBH attacking from across a long hallway is about what I had in mind anyway, but growing to Large size is impractical. I mean technically it's not a big deal for Richard anyway, he has flight capabilities and insane speed is basically going to be his whole shtick as he gains Mythic Tiers. As in, "a black and glowing red blur appeared and everyone in the room was cut into a hundred pieces, then it left".

It would legitimately be hard for people with non-superhuman senses to keep track of him in a fight. He would be on one side of a room, and then appear on the other within an eye blink.

Come to think of it, that would be terrifying to fight even if you're a PC...

Functionally, yes, aesthetically, no.

There are a few ways for a predominantly melee fighter to attack at a distance with a sword... though it's impractical for a number of reasons. The best use of "Sword Good" is to have a mage able to taxi them to the place they need to be and give them the spell effects (or wear the items) they need to move unimpeded.

But you're right, though. It's more of an enclosed space, limited movement effect. Mobility will trump that, every time.

Make some custom maneuver to increase the range, or a maneuver that does an excaliblast. Then again for some reason Richard disdains going full weaboo.

Speaking of weaboo I feel cheated that more people are starting out with initiator levels when Richard had to deal with fighter levels and almost got EXPERT levels to get shit done.

Also, fuck Ned is fucking useless if even Rose Bolton is sporting full IL classes.

Hmmm. Something like this?

Whirling Blade – Spell – D&D Tools

Complete list of all D&D spells, rulebooks, feats, classes and more!
You know while this may not be of much use to Richard, Viserys might be able to Ancestral Awakening or Greater Shadow Enchant this to clear out some mooks with Dark Sister. Almost certainly never worth it (I think it would only see use if we we just want to show off or to trigger Dark Sister's caster level boosting effect), but still cool IMO.

TBF to Roose Bolton, he was willing to undergo inhuman experimentation by a man even more devoid of morals than himself, and as for ethics, he is way more ethical than Qyburn actually, which makes it even more astonishing in hindsight.

He has Initiator levels because... absolutely no limits whatsoever when seeking greater power. And all he managed to do was gain a PC class that lets him defend himself (barely) against supernatural threats.

When you think about it, Ned has been more or less as "useful" or I guess you mean "effective", seeing as how he now has a bunch of wargs and mages himself (though admittedly he's playing catch-up, and it's kind of got more to do with the fact that he's a lord of a Great House and can just order people to do what he wants and most of his vassals even want to).

Meanwhile, Richard built his martial tradition from the ground up by doing crazy weeaboo shit you speak of, but grounded in exactly the same kind of mindset of the character himself. It doesn't "make sense" for a swordsman to fire laser beams, to stomp their foot and create a giant crater or shatter a mountain, or to be able to warp the space-time continuum by cutting through it hard enough.

So he just hits harder, faster and is tougher. Because it "makes sense" to him. Mind over matter, but the mind chooses to be rational, otherwise he would've been a Sorcerer, not a Knight.

If we really want Richard with unlimited swording range, the most stylish option I can think of is for him to keep killing Deimavigga until Oathkeeper learns their Boundless Reach trick.

That way it wouldn't be a break with Richard's more grounded kind of fighting, it would simply be another property of his already-artifact Sword.

Or just capture one of the suckers and use it to imbue the property into the blade after grinding them down to their constituent soul-parts. :V

Come now, we are way past blindly reaching in the dark to accomplish something... we have SCIENCE! 🤓

Deimavigga... never have I read upon a more queer and weird Devil-kind...

Promoting Atheism? A skilled orator that spews hollow truths? Using "facts" instead of just lamblasting them with praises to Mammon?

These assholes are... bizarre. Yet again, compared to Demons, Devils are faaaar more interesting and diverse. So that's kinda given.

Evil underworlds have the advantage in that, while Heaven has standards, Hell's doors are always open. So long as you can get them to Lawful Evil before they die, it doesn't matter how you got there.

Hey people, I'm looking to reread that fight when Richard went full Rules of Nature on the Plane of Earth. Any keyword suggestions for the search bar?
