*Laughs in Kragg, Thorek, and Mathilda*
The Shamans can certainly try to do a bunch of stuff, but Kragg the Grimm and Thorek might have a say. And if Kragg the Grimm or Thorek have a say about what an enemy caster can do, that enemy caster should really reconsider casting that spell.
I thought that too, but I guess my next question then is what's their range for counter-spelling? Can Mathilde do it all the way from the Eye? The runesmiths from the Citadel?

Probably depends where they are launching their effects. If they fire a blast at the citadel/eye, then it is almost certain we can dispel it.

This is where the scale of K8Ps being temporarily moved from "vague enough for you to put in your own image" to smaller helps us, because all our casters should be in supporting range of each other.

Our Runesmiths and Mathilde probably won't be able to counterspell any attempts at widening the Western Gate (but we actually do want more orcs flooding in quickly, so that's not a problem), but any attempts at using magic against our entrenched positions at the Citadel and Karagril will have to go through our Runesmiths (or wherever Thorek ends up being).

What will be a problem is that any that survive - the ones in the eastern edge of the Caldera - will be looking for an escape. And that means they're likely to push on Karagril and Karag Mhonar, which they should be able to reach the blocked entrances of without becoming vulnerable to the Eye, and they'd have enough reason to start excavating them."

Are people saying that Hold maximizes time they spend in Eye territory? Because they'll be able to get to Karagril and Mhonar without being exposed, and holding those points is going to really really hurt. The point that Dwarves can most efficiently trade lives when on fortified defenses is valid, but it is explicitly noted that they will be far more sapped of motivation and manpower after they run the Obstacle Course From Hell and the Waagh is getting gutted, making them easier to deal with. This is exactly the kind of elastic defense we should employ, I think.
