[X] Move and Reorient

'only the last hit point matters' and 'whatever, we have plot armor' is the wrong way to go at this imo, because 'not dying' isnt 'safe from consequences' and I dont like the potential consequences of tanking a big attack with our throat.

. At the top of the ridge that overlooked the river, a massive wall had sprung up, formed of twisted bulging branches and boughs of vital green wood, it rose over ten meters high and stretched on for hundreds, like a shield braced against the ground against the oncoming beasts.

Zhengui's root wall is pretty neat. He did pretty well out there.

Going to go with
[X] Move and Reorient

There's other still the giant centipede Zhengui is fighting and will likely be another horde of spirits coming if even the trees are getting ready to run. I'd rather Ling Qi be able to help with that after dealing with the assassin then having better odds of killing it.

We getting all sorts of Lovecraft in here.

[X] Defend and Counter
Let's poison this shit right back.

[X] Defend and Counter

I'm hoping tanking the hit with TRU results in an advancement for Fortitude, personally. The narrative is right for it, at any rate, and I'd rather get an advancement for Fortitude from TRF than from SNR. SNR is really cool, yeah, but TRF has been there for us in a way that SNR really hasn't. Largely because we haven't even learned SNR yet, but eh.

By flat stats that's merely an extra +15 to Physical Armor, resulting in B20 (B30 against poison), but it's much stronger narratively, particularly right when we get it - see the difference between the moment we got Sable Grace and our practice afterwards.

And if this guy has an ENM feint equivalent we don't want to give it the opportunity to get it off. Ours managed to let us at least injure a guy who knew full well we were there, in the middle of ~fifty allies, and this guy's rockin' some pretty sweet techs.

[X] Defend and Counter

I like this thematically. This entire arc has been "defend and counter." We keep putting ourself in harm's way because we're confident that we can handle it and hit the enemy back hard enough to stop them. It really feels like it's building to an Advanced Insight that buds off our TRF Insight: not just "I will give a certain amount of ground, but not an infinite amount," but a kind of defense-of-others-leading-to-overwhelming-offense and oh god as I type this I realize I am describing Super Saiyan, we're becoming a shounen hero, shut it down, shut it all down

Scs is a mistake.

He's as fast as us.

How do I know?

I think he followed us here from the other village.

Having a reserve third realm fits with their MO from village 2.

You say that as if its not a potential risk.with either option.

It's Bai Meizhen's strategy actually, kind of the one that Ling Qi used as her touchstone for how she interprets strength.

"Endure the lashes of the world, and strike back as needed"

We still cannot detect him, I am not at all confident that we will be able to if we give him the chance to disengage and re-stealth. This isn't going to totally take either of us out of the fight, so this is about defining the initial conditions of the upcoming battle, and we can't just give him the initiative again. Tag him with HR and it might give Xiulan an opening to really fuck him up.

Try to fuck with us and our friends? First instinct is to shoot right back.

[X] Defend and Counter

Good to take risks to take out dangerous opponents and if it ends badly the traumatic martyrdom would probably make for an interesting song

This is an excellent point.

I suspect our take on it would tie in to the theme of roots and our general chosen-family domain; in this arc, we dashed all over the place while we thought we could help, but when danger threatened our roots we came back to stand in their unretreating defense and punish the one who dared.

But this is all getting ahead of ourselves, I don't actually think we're likely to generate an Advanced Insight from this arc.
