[X] Goldfish

Not that another vote is really needed as its the only vote.. But it makes me feel important!

@Goldfish, please remember that we can take extra non-spell Standard Actions (Mythic) or get extra actions with a Belt of Battle.
Haven't forgotten, just not sure if we should blow a major alpha strike when so much is already being thrown at the Asurendra. This might not be the worst fight we have to deal with during the raid.

If we do it, it'll cost another use of Mythic Power and the Belt of Battle will be done for the rest of the day, all to cast another spell when there are already four Save or Suck/Die spells heading its way with a truckload of murderblender right behind them.

EDIT: Actually, some of them aren't even Save or Suck/Die spells. Stun Ray stuns whether you save or not, if you hit and beat SR, and Irresistable Dance is the same. Lucent Lance Blinds if it hits and beats SR, no save allowed. And Avasculate halves HP even on a successful save. So really, the Asurendra is kinda fucked.

Not really something I'm willing to leave to chance. Even if we Wild Arcana'd the spell to raise the caster level to 22nd, that's still only a 55% chance of success for Viserys. It would be significantly less for everyone else.

If ASR won't work, a Quickened True Casting will, at least for Viserys.
We have Eldritch Breach though, roll twice.

Mindblank is something that once you get access, never not have such cast, pretty much. Lasts 24h and protects from an an obscene amount of effects.

'Did not possess it 2 hours ago' is about as good as certainty in this case.

Edit: Unless someone is doing Communal Mindblank shenanigans, but you'd think it should be cast before entering an area such as Valyria anyway.

I'm confused about why this guy is talking us down. Isn't this a cr 20 asurendra or something to that effect?

The Oblivion sure as hell didn't think it needed to threaten us with a bigger fish. Is this just unwarranted paranoia, or some sort of trick?

He seems to have an idea who we are if his comment is a reference to the 15th and not big red. That means these guys could have thought about us specifically when panning for this trip. We may have some really target shit to deal with, here or at home.

It could just be because we're a red dragon in Valyria though. In which case, it could be the 15th himself, or something related to the curse the Valyrians set up...

Any bets on what the 14 would put in place to react to a Red Dragon sorcerer throwing around miracles, and what might be left of it?

Syrax would tell us about shit like that right?
Maybe we should avoid top self stuff with wide area effects.

*mad ravings intensify*

Edit: missing letter.

Yeh, I agree that they probably prepared specifically for us.

We are the main contender on Prime Material, aren't we?

It is very likely that either some exceedingly dragon-killy gifts of 15th, or several Baalors beamed down by Asmy, are what is in store.

Good thing we don't do this for sacrifices, or even to save the slaves.
Downing the ships is the priority, and we are likely to manage even if they bullshit us with multiple surprise cr 20+ encounters.

@BronzeTongue Any spell caster with access so to 7th or so level spells it a threat. Stun Ray, Prismatic Spray. Avasculate, Amber Sarcophagus, Smoke Bottle, Baleful Polymorph, Finger of Death, Flesh to Stone, Limited/Blood Wish, Antimagic Ray, etc. These are all SoL, or just "straight up lose.

And we brought a big crew.

Every vote counts, even if there is only one plan in motion. It lets DP know that people are willing to participate rather than just lurking.

Well I'll vote aplenty then, this quest and DP writing is sublime and should have hundreds at the least voting. So ill be sure to add my two cents if only to get more updates.:D

  • [X] Plan "They'll have to get in line..."
-[X] Viserys casts Assay Spell Resistance, then targets the Asurendra with Avasculate. If the Asurendra attempts to use any magic after Dany has already Counterspelled it once, he discharges his Battlemagic Perception spell to Counterspell it as a Free Action.
-[X] Xor sets his Channel Vigor spell to "Mind" for a +4 bonus to Ranged Attacks as a Move Action if he hasn't already, casts Assay Spell Resistance, then targets the Asurendra with Stun Ray. If the Stun Ray misses or fails to overcome the Asura's Spell Resistance, Xor casts Celerity and targets the Asura with one of his Irresistible Dance Occular Spells.
-[X] Dany sets her Channel Vigor spell to "Mind" for a +4 bonus to Ranged Attacks as a Move Action if she hasn't already, casts Assay Spell Resistance, then targets the Asurendra with Lucent Lance. If the Asurendra attempts to use any magic, she discharges her Battlemagic Perception spell to Counterspell it as a Free Action.
-[X] Siduri casts Greater Heroism on Richard.
-[X] Richard uses his Fleet Charge Mythic Power to close with the Asurendra and make an extra attack against it at his full Attack Bonus (+43 [7d6 + 25 + 1 Constitution damage; 17-20/x2)], then makes a full attack (+38/+38/+33/+28/+23 [7d6 + 35 + 1 Constitution damage; 17-20/x2]; Critical Threat range doubled due to previous use of Richard's scabbard to grant Oathkeeper the Keen Edge effect and Attack bonus modified by Power Attack to reduce attack bonus by -5 in order to increase damage by +10 per attack). He then activates his Belt of Battle using all three charges to gain a Full-Round Action in order to use his Avalanche of Blades maneuver while canceling his Moment of Greatness buff in order to double the Morale bonus from Siduri's Greater Heroism spell to his attack and damage rolls from +4 to +8, and without using Power Attack.

LET THE FIFTEENTH COME, WE WILL GROW A WEIRDWOOD FROM HIS ENTRAILS
No we will feed him to Yss, the old gods leave too many scraps when eating their meals, we want the Fifteenth permanently destroyed, so he's to be fed to Yss.
We need to find a way to turtle beings immune to Polymorph, we figured out how to burn beings immune to fire, so clearly immunities can be overcome.

Bask in the presence of the Spider-Fish Abomination and all with gain the Gifts of Far Realm.
My great Arctic bulk protect me from Far Realm changes, it's powerful, but it can't get though sufficient amounts of Arctic blubber.

It's only those emaciated southern birds that get changed by the Far Realm, us proud Northern birds, know that the best shield against corruption is being well fed.

By the way, reading the Asura-entry on Pathfinder, these fiends are actually more likely to change their alignment that most fiends.

Rarely, however, contemplation on the nature of the multiverse or a desire for something more than eternal strife causes an asura to choose a different course. Such asuras meditate to become closer to that which they once sought to destroy, purifying themselves of their soul-burning hatred. Redeemed asuras are seldom good or religious, but they do wander the planes, dispensing wisdom and working against wanton destruction. Evil asuras loathe these traitors, and seek them out to destroy them with teeming fervor.
It's not much, but certainly better than the rates for Devils and Demons are going.
And neutral people who wish to oppose the senseless destruction of the Multiverse sound right up our alley.
@Duesal Are you up to try and recruit the lesser fiend we just captured?

Interlude DXLXXXI: Arcane Duels, Hidden Powers
Arcane Duels, Hidden Powers

Twenty-Fifth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

Ever since he had been a boy just tall enough to take his father's copy of the Fourteen Flames off the shelf, and not truly old enough to understand all the words in it, Zherys had been fascinated by Valyria, a people mighty enough to raise the Black Walls and tame dragons to their will, who could whisper secrets across a thousand miles and craft works of artifice to endure a thousand years. As a young man he had climbed the highest mast of a ship crossing through the Summer Sea for just a glimpse of fire on the horizon, he had even dared the wilds east of Mantarys and almost left his bones in some nameless ravine after being ambushed by twisted beasts.

What an irony it was that when he should finally have the chance to look upon the tomb of the Freehold it would be with that child's interest turned to bitter ashes by the knowledge of Valyria's great folly. Yet the Maegi knew well that like power knowledge too had its cost and painful the price had been in this, but it was still better to know and be prepared than perish in blissful ignorance.

The world was stranger than any book could tell, that much the company to which he had been assigned to could tell at a glance. A Mage-Lord risen from age-old sleep, a Shadowbinder wafting like smoke upon the wind, a warrior born of fire's eternal heart... and a Braavosi orphan who could not yet count twenty namedays, arguably the most skilled sorcerer of them all. Like ignorance bitterness was a thing best fed into the fires of one's ambition than left to fester, but that was more easily said than done as he watched the girl separate the flying ships and bind the crew upon one's deck in the same breath.

Still, the Volantene mage was not without his own skills gained through years of hunting for the last dying embers of magic through dark and secret places. As they entered the ship by a tear the Red Priestess' magic opened he drew a handful of bone ash in his left hand he whispered into it a spell of finding. Without the glare of the ships wards to blind the enchantment he should be able to find if not the Archmage then his quarters, sure to be filled with some of the most potent magics on the ship, and no sorcerer worth the name would allow his sanctum to be invaded for long.

"This way," he motioned down a corridor even as the ship lurched alarmingly from the sudden firing of its main weapon. The ships of the earth-born must have arrived, but that was not their concern now.

The Shadowbinder slipped into the bulkheads from whence she could watch and reach out to strike enemies unaware while the hammer-bearing Azer charged ahead, leaving Zherys and Wisdoms Malarys and Lya about three steps behind.

To their credit it did not take the crew long to find them, but they threw themselves into the fight as ones with barely anything left to live for, to have their flesh boiled in vitriol by Zherys or their bones crushed by the Adamantine hammer while the Red Priestess and the young Braavosi mage saved their magic for the Efreeti champions. Not the skill of millennia of war nor the fury of fire unleashed could save them once they had been marked for death, but in the narrow passages their advance slowed, then stopped altogether as the door to the mess hall burst open to reveal dozens more foes, eight of them officers skilled in either sorcery, swordsmanship, or both. When Wisdom Lya cast a wall of power to bar the door and give themselves breathing room three of the mage's within cast a spell of sundering as one, doing together what one of them alone could not.

Just as Zherys was preparing to clear the room with an exhalation of poisonous miasma the Red Priestess stepped forth from the protection of the bulkhead and raised her ruby pendant high and proclaimed in a booming distant voice like the herald of some far off army. "By R'hllor that is the heart of all fire I bind thee! Flee!"

For a moment all was red, as though the world entire had been set afire or drenched in blood. When Zherys could see again the slave crew was either dead, their collars smoking as they punished flight with death, or feeling for those fortunate enough to have the priestess' command shatter their collars so that they may obey the priestess' command. The Efreeti were reconsidering the wisdom of battle without any magic to compel them, Zherys noticed in amusement. One of them did not get to decide as Wisdom Malarys flayed the flesh from his bones.

"If you would steal my slaves then I will steal yours..." The voice came from everywhere and nowhere as an unbinding ripped through the air to strike Yrten. Lady Lya had motioned to stop it, but it continued regardless. Not one spell but two, Zherys realized, the first had been countered while the second was not.

Thankfully the Braavosi mage was able to counter the spell of domination that followed a moment later, but that left them no closer to finding where the spell had been cast from. Their foe was not hiding behind any common illusion, that much was clear.

There, Zherys caught sight of a skull with faint embers of glowing light in its empty eye sockets. Without even pausing for breath he flung as sphere of incandescent light at it. The thing did not shatter as it should have, but rose in the air enveloped in flame and in a voice of ashes woven taunted them: "Do you think yourselves the hunters, mortals? You are the hunted."

Before it could speak again Malarys motioned through the air and uttered a single word of command: "Shatter."

In which point it did quite spectacularly.

"How many of those damn things were there?" the warrior spat.

"Six, now five," Zherys replied. "Come, the sanctum awaits. Best to draw them out of hiding."

With that the five moved further into the dangerously lurching ship.

OOC: Here we are, our first Zherys combat interlude. Hopefully I got him across properly.

Who knows what's hiding under those feathers? Your flesh could have already changed to a nice $&3@¥¢|℅£ hue just like a Far Realm "chicken", though I use the term chicken loosely. They do have wings and a beak, so it's close.

No, I like the Weirwood idea. The 15th wants to die, but I'm sure he'd prefer a peaceful "afterlife" within the groupmind of the OG.
The problem is that the 15th is a memetic Hazard, it's bound to Asmodeus by oath and power, I'm not sure if the old gods would actually be able to wrest it free from Asmodeus influence, allowing it entry into the old gods hivemind, is one of the few things I can think of that might corrupt the old gods.

@DragonParadox
The next combat vote looks settled with 15 for the Fish already, could we vote on Zherys now?

[] Metamagus Zherys
[] Incantifier Zherys

Sure, vote closed on combat.
