First we need to deal with the Elder Evil that Maegor trapped inside it. But once that's settled it works just fine as a base for administration for the Crownlands.
Did we ever get confirmation that Maegor was the one who contained the entity? I thought he just used a massive amount of blood sacrifice to power the wards up, since magic was all but gone otherwise.

IIRC, the entity beneath the castle was already there before the structure was built. I figured that was why the castle was built there to begin with, for some weird reason.

Here's the current plan, @BronzeTongue.

  • [X] No.
-[X] It is not yet time for a meeting between us and the Azure Emperor. Our emissaries have worked to obtain this audience and it would be improper to invite ourselves to it unannounced. Once diplomatic relations have been formally established, then we can arrange a face to face introduction.
-[X] Provide Tyene with ten Valyrian Steel weapons of various types, all in common Yi-Ti styles, along with a body length standing mirror framed using Valyrian Steel in a Dragon motif and highly polished Mithral as its surface. Depending on the situation, she will give one or more of the weapons, and/or the mirror as gifts, using her best judgement to determine what is appropriate.
-[X] Previously voted on course of action for the audience.
--[X] Ask Tyene and the others to explain their mission, that they were sent not only to attempt to begin working on establishing normal diplomatic relations with Yi-Ti, but also to ferret out the agents and machinations of a group of our enemies who had fled from Western Essos and who we discovered were attempting to establish themselves as a power in Yi-Ti.
---[X] Have them give a brief explanation of the Golden Company, the GC's current alliance with the Bitch Queen, and what they have learned of the GC's operations here.
----[X] Ask that the Emperor allow our agents to continue their work infiltrating the conspiracy we have discovered, at least for a short while longer.
-----[X] Offer up the skulls of the Devils we accidentally Summoned from Yi-Ti who were infiltrating the Emperor's court, and ask to allow them to take part in the interrogation of the traitor's skull. If possible, try to learn any True Names he may have known.
------[X] Only if Tyene deems it appropriate, and her contacts don't indicate otherwise, she will also broach the subject of a lore exchange between the Empire and our Imperium.

No, there was nothing there.

When Aegon landed, he built a rickety old wooden fort he called the Aegonfort (I'm not kidding, it was actually called that). Then after, the Red Keep was constructed.

Also if we look back to that Myrcella omake, the Elder Evil names the Targaryens as its jailers, so it was probably Maegor with Visenya's help.

Maybe it was contained in some sort of vessel, like a Sacramental Seal, and transported there by Aegon? It doesn't make sense for Maegor to be able to do any kind of containment of something that powerful, considering magic had faded to such an extent at that point even the most minor working required hours of ritual along with sacrifices.

That certainly could have worked. It'd expect one of the Forty Families to just have bottled monsters ready for sacrifice.

Reading over the text of Sacramental Seal again, this one really does seem like it could be what is containing the Evil entity.

You trap the target in an object decorated with the holy symbols of your god or faith. While trapped in the object, the creature can't take any actions and is immune to spells and spell-like abilities.

The creature remains permanently trapped in the object as long the object remains in your possession. Only a freedom, miracle, or wish spell can dispel the enchantment, though destroying the object frees the creature.

If you relinquish your stewardship of the object (such as giving it away or leaving it in a remote location or extradimensional space), the trapped creature begins to gain control over the object.

It immediately gains the ability to communicate telepathically with any creature now in possession of the object. It still can't take any actions besides communicating but can use feats and skills related to speaking (such as Bluff and Diplomacy).

After 1 week of the object being out of your presence, the creature can create a number of haunts with a total CR (that is, the CR of the encounter with all of the haunts at once) equaling 1/4 the creature's Hit Dice. These haunts are centered on the object.

The creature can also communicate telepathically up to a range of 100 feet at this point.

After 1 month of the object being out of your presence, the CR total of the haunts the trapped creature can create increases to 1/2 its Hit Dice. In addition to telepathy, it can also impart mental images of its choosing into the mind of any creature holding or carrying the object.

After 1 year of being out of your presence, in addition to the above abilities, the creature can attempt to possess any living creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher that touches the object, as per possession. However, the creature can't personally destroy the object, even while possessing another creature.

Because the binding magic irrevocably weakens the longer you're away from the item, returning it to your ownership doesn't reverse any of the effects. You must free the creature and impose another sacramental seal if you want to restrict its abilities again.

If the object is placed in the stewardship of creatures or a location belonging to your faith, it still counts as being out of your presence but it takes ten times longer for the creature to manifest the above abilities (it would take 10 weeks for it to manifest the ability to create haunts, for example).

depending on the being the fading of magic might weaken it as well.

You don't need magic to explain Joffrey's insanity. He's the product of incest and he had Cersei's parenting. That's plenty.
True, but considering he wasn't showing signs of cruelty and madness when we saw him i expect he became crazy in this timeline due to possession and goading of the ancient evil in the keep.

Kind of like how, in this version, we might have gone crazy by going to deep into the dragon dreams.

That argument doesn't work. He went insane in canon, in the full absence of magic, in a setting where the elder evil flat out does not exist. The Elder Evil could be helping the madness along in this setting, maybe, but it's totally unnecessary. It would have happened on its own.

It wouldn't even need to Possess him to have a significant influence. Just being able to Telepathically communicate with Joffrey would allow it to influence his thoughts and behaviors from infancy.

Of course, he's already getting a head full of BS from Cersei, so on top of possibly ending up as a violently delusional psychopath, he might have some really twisted shit in his head, along with entity granted knowledge on how to perform magic, Summon minions, etc.

It's not just Joffrey that's vulnerable to manipulation. The other incest babies are viable targets, too, along with anyone else within range who might be weak or ambitious enough to listen to the new voice in their head.

*The product of non-Targaryen incest. Draconic bloodline sneers at genetics and common sense!
For real. The Dragon PR team wants us to think it was a bunch of Druids who created the Dragonleaf Trees, but we all know the truth. A randy dragon, probably with too many barrels of high proof liquor in its gullet, saw a shapely oak tree and things...happened.

Dragons...they don't have to explain shit.
If this creature could seriously influence people not near its prison, it would not have offered Myrcella of all people a good deal.
Influence might not be enough to be of any help, though. It might need someone with the potential to use magic in order to be freed from its prison.

It was more of a "Oh so Viserys didnt go insane naturally in this setting, it was the dragon dreams"

And then seeing this and going "Huh, maybe it is something similar here"

I wasnt saying it was a garruntee but that it would be an interesting explanation along the lines of how the dragon dreams were one near the start

No, it wasn't the Dragon Dreams. Viserys went insane because he spent years on the streets keeping himself and his sister alive, suffering humiliation after humiliation, getting laughed out of city after city as he petitioned them for aid to retake the Iron Throne, coupled with the fact that most of his family was murdered and he was forced to flee his home. Dragon Dreams had nothing to do with it, it was just circumstance and terrible luck.

In CANON. This is not canon. Heck it explicitly states that he can easily see how that vision of a potential future could come to pass by falling to deep into the dragon dreams and being consumed by them as his father had been.

I think ya'll might be talking past each other at this point.

Interlude DXLXXIII: A Meeting Unlooked For
A Meeting Unlooked For

Twenty-Fourth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

The fleet had arrived in Port Moraq along with the last rays of the sun spilling down from behind the tall mist-shrouded cliffs crowned in dark tangled jungle that reminded Theon Greyjoy of the shattered boneyard of Gogossos. However, where that mournful ruin was silent and still save for the shrieks of painted lizards and the distant calls of stranger beasts, the city that guarded the northern shore of the Cinnamon Straits was very much alive. Ten-thousand lights glittered atop tall graceful spires in expectation of the coming night, but by far the most impressive sight to Theon's eye was the great clock set into the tallest tower. He had not thought such things could be found outside Sorcerer's Deep where the Dragon King had commanded them raised by sorcery.

No, not a clock, he realized a moment later, some sort of astrological circle. Captain Moonsong would probably want to visit... and knowing her she might just try to fly up there just to see the reactions of the locals. Thank Snake, Tree, and Sea it wasn't his job to deal with the locals. Poor Captain Diana had been run ragged explaining the Tree Ship, and the Herald was lucky to be made of unsleeping metal and not mortal flesh. If one had to sail, and he was willing to admit he was starting to enjoy it, then the best way to do it was without a captain's hat dragging one's head down. If every captain was a king of a realm of wood, rope, and canvas then he would rather be the court minstrel, drinking all the wine and making all the ladies sigh.

Sing us a saga
Tell us a story
Tales full of hammers
Full
of dragons and stones
Sing us a saga
Tell us a story
Sing us a saga

The rowing song song was so faint that Theon thought it nothing more than the voice of a memory lost in the crash of the waves, until the man next to him on the prow of the ship called out: "Is that a fucking longboat?"

The young Greyjoy heir swore. 'A fucking longboat' it was indeed, with a single mast looking down upon a deck crowded with oarsmen, their shields slung out over the side and a carved sea dragon head for its prow. How such a ship even made it this far east through harsh seas and unknown currents was more than he could guess, but it was coming into harbor, pulling close to the Rhaella to gawk at her.

"Prettiest ship I ever did see," the man at the prow, likely the captain, whistled.

"Why thank you, kind ser," the ship's dryad giggled close enough for Theon to hear her, though thankfully not enough for the Ironborn to do so.

The spirit was not the only one looking on with interest. "They have got to have some sea skill to make it this far," Asha noted. "Think they would be up to signing on with a Greyjoy to head even further east? If nothing else I'd like to hear their story."

"Sea skill or darker dealings," Theon shot back darkly. "Best leave them be if they do the same to us."

"If they hold with the fish-fuckers we can kill 'em and loot 'em as long as we do it quietly," his sister shrugged. "There's gotta be something worth taking aboard that ship."

As though called up by her words a shout rang out from the longship: "Hail, and what manner of folk are you who talk Common but sail with mermen?" They must have spotted some of the tritons.

"We're Dragonmen, here," Theon replied, without any of the self-consciousness he had once felt saying so. "Whose asking?"

"Harren Half-Hoare they call me, sailor on the Sunrise Seas. I've passed the Jade Gates nine times and nine times back. I've seen the shores of Leng and the black waters at the mouth of the Ash River, but I've never laid eyes on a fleet quite like this one."

"Do you lot keep to the Drowned God?" Theon snapped, wanting to get an answer before Asha set foot on the damn boat.

"Only in a storm," the fair-haired warrior laughed. "In port we keep to the God of Tits and Wine, and we're looking to pay him a hell of a prayer and libation, aren't we lads?!" The question was met with a raucous cheer.

Asha looked more interested by the moment. Fuck.

OOC: I thought about sending the fleet to Zabhad, but what little we knew about it from canon did not draw me, so I went with Port Moraq. Also I know the rowing song does not rhyme, it's mostly just supposed to keep rhythm I think.
