@Deliste, I've updated the wording of the vote somewhat.

--[] However, that's not where the story ends. Unwarded by divination then, Tor learned we were coming and fled Braavos ahead of us. Given his later depredations, I can only assume he was unwilling to give up his new sources of power, those kidnapped unfortunates with enough magic in their blood to give them the spark of sorcery, and knew we would have not taken no for an answer.
---[] He later turned up in Pentos where we happened upon him by chance and where he met his end. His first end.
----[] Power, wealth and influence did not change Tor for the better, all three of which he had for quite awhile. For each of our successes, he grew more paranoid and finally mad, never having ceased his enslaving of mages, rather he grew more sophisticated at it, binding men wholly and completely to servitude, and eventually disposal in his own experiments. Have you, per chance, met Sarah of Pentos, who now teaches at the Scholarium? She was once enslaved by Tor, serving not only as a source of blood to fuel his powers, but forced to use her magic to aid him in his madness.

  • [X] Before departing, inquire about the possible purchase of any psionic items the Githzerai might have available for sell, whether or not such items can be commissioned, and if there are any psionic crafters available for hire.
-[X] Check with Mereth about how Azirah, the first Erynie you resurrected, is doing - she seemed seriously out of herself after the fact.
-[X] Unless speaking with Azirah ends up being more involved than we are expecting (i.e. more than one update), move on from that and arrange a meeting with the Windward Society. It's time we told them of the true fate of their friend Tor.
--[X] As the reactions are likely to be negative, you are going into this already expecting some questions and you have answers, and you will attempt to be as forthright about what drove your actions as possible. We've dealt with them fairly and honestly, and could have withheld this with only a literal God being capable of revealing the truth out of petty spite. They could at least stand to listen.
--[X] Tor was a man who lusted after true magical power, and this was happening during a time when we little understood magic ourselves, so any means to acquire it seemed proportionate to the degree of desperation he must have felt in the twilight of his life.
---[X] Because of this he found a way to awaken to magic--our blood. That was a deal fairly wrought, but we didn't quite understand at the time that in order to continue making use of his abilities he would need more blood of magic users close at hand, and rather than bargain for it, he enslaved others in the heart of the Secret City and under its rulers' noses. He hadn't made any indications to change his manner of operating, though in hindsight it might have been possible to convince him.
---[X] Full disclosure, while we hold a hatred for slavery, we chose to confront him because he made us complicit in something contemptible. But even then, the Windward Society, Tor included, were family friends. They gave us a warm home when we had just picked ourselves off of the streets, and the rush of imminent voluntary exile made us act with perhaps unseemly haste.

-----[X] Moreover he cut deals with Dark Gods and it was only a matter of time until he was used as a pawn in some scheme against us given his ally at the time was the mortal enemy of one of our allies, Yss.
--[X] Finally, the third time we dealt with Tor was when his 'patron' brought him back to kill the last of Yss' chosen people. We can't claim Tor's murderous attempts on the lives of those close to us as much of a reasoning for ensuring his resurrection would never be possible again, but we'd be lying if we claimed we weren't relieved by it.
--[X] "I did not want the last memory you possessed of Tor to be of betrayal and madness. The last embers of guilt I felt at killing a man who gifted my sister nameday presents and told me stories by the fire have faded, but that doesn't excuse holding back when forging oaths with those close to him."

And I would greatly value your continued, and willing, service. But this was one niggling doubt in the back of my mind I could not allow to linger. I spared other slavers, so why not Tor?"

I'm sorry, but the following is a reason enough:
She has a reason to fight us, and has potential to hurt us in great many ways.
Get a keystone in place -> summon a bunch of mercanaries (whom Lannisters can afford) -> we have another thing taking our attention when we really can't afford that.

Yes, she's not a challende in direct fight.
She's still an enemy, and one who should be taken out one of the first during Reconquest if we want as little bloodshed as possible.

If she surrenders immediately upon us opening on Westeros?
Good for her, she gets to live.
Otherwise, we will be taking her out until we are done with estabishing our rule there.
Once the war actually begin she submit or dies yes, I meant she was not problematic enough, to bother taking down before we start the invasion.
I really want to work on subverting Dannelle though. Or at least on making her directly useful to us.
She's already useful to us, she's one of the people making sure we don't have to reschedule our plans every five minutes, because something blew up in Westeros.
We are an Emperor, Kings and Queens both will be counted as subordinates in the fullness of time.

While she may gather enough power to carve herself a Queendom she needs to travel far and do it right.

Because if a mortal from the plane and kingdom of our birth is out there being a cruel and/or terrible ruler we aren't going to let them last very long, we'll conquer and absorb them to deny the stain of association and bring their citizens into a deserving more respectful Empire.
If she's being a cruel ruler, then yes we would get around to conquering her at some point, just like we would with any other cruel ruler, if she's just not all that good at ruling, I would vote for trying to teach her how to rule first, and only if she refuse conquer her, we don't need a reputation, of conquering people that having made themselves our enemies.

And if she's not being an evil or incompetent ruler, we are just going to offer her an alliance, just like we do with other non-terrible policies we encounter.

It's when

Song fights (Rain?) and loses a bet for her former owner (Kai? Grandpa Gyu's student) and Rain brings up the fact the guy was your typical Arrogant Kung Fu guy and was like "You'll be kowtowing before me in five minutes, even my slave could beat your ass blue!" and tries to save face by walking out.

Ordinarily to not start up a feud the other party would probably let them and just bask in getting one up over them, but Rain doesn't give a shit about saving or giving face, so he hops up and heckles him something fierce.

I couldn't stop laughing when I first read it.

Part MMMXXIV: Of Purposeful Words and Telling Silence
Of Purposeful Words and Telling Silence

Nineteenth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

"I have then one more gift to offer you and your people in furtherance of the pledge made between us," Your cloak clinks softly as it deposits one of the greater braziers upon the stone table between you. Not for the first time you marvel at what you owe to that simple spell of sand-whispering, the tether to hold together not just the realm but the allies beyond it.

Interplanar Whispering Brazier Assigned to the Monastery of the Unbroken Circle

Before departing you ask if there are any workings of mind magic the githzerai might wish to trade for in gold or sorcery, hoping even so high as captured Deep One artifacts they might wish to be rid of, though not saying so aloud lest it be taken badly upon your newborn alliance. Alas, there is nothing of the sort to acquire for all the works of the thought-smiths are crafted with a particular function in mind from the humblest lantern to the ethereal arms of champions, and when that function can no longer be fulfilled they are given another at once. Your question regarding hiring some of these artificers are met with polite refusal, they would not wish to live away from their fellows nor absent their skills from the defense of the monastery

However, by the terms of your alliance you may freely choose to commission such craft. Do you commission anything from the Monastery of the Unbroken Circle?

Twentieth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

Returning home you are surprised and slightly concerned to find Mereth in your office. So far none of the fiends you had acquired had broken their pledge or the law of the realm, but you know that if they had done so Mereth would be the first to report it out of a sense of responsibility for counseling you to take them on.

Thankfully her news is nothing so grave: "Establishing guard posts and patrols in the lands of Mantarys will require another month, my lord," she reports, offering nothing that might seem to be an excuse, though you know she had likely memorized the report held firmly in one hand.

Establish Guard Posts (Mantarys) Progress 23+35 = 58/65

"From what I see here the task is almost done, with only the most remote corners of the province not yet secured," you reply looking over the map drawn and annotated in Yrael's meticulous hand. "I would hardly call this a failing, particularly in light of the Scholarum finally opening its doors next month. That should allow those functionaries to take over the remainder of the guard posts, allowing you and Relath to move on to more interesting tasks than chasing brigands in the hills."

Establish Scholarum (Mantarys) Complete: 25/20

Mereth's face turns to momentary frustration. Noticing the unspoken question in your gaze she sighs. "I feel ill at ease being rewarded for failure."

"The absence of perfect success does not failure make, a lesson I am still struggling to learn," you admit ruefully.

For a long moment the fury looks at you in silence as though you had just spoken some strange riddle to unravel. Finally she nods, the faintest shadow of a smile upon her blood-red lips. "Another change to grow accustomed to," the words have an air of habit about them.

The conversation calls to mind another of her sisters who might have seen herself as failing over the past month, death in battle is no small thing even for one who had likely fallen many times before through the long years of the Blood War. "How is Azirah in the wake of her resurrection? She seemed to have much on her mind at the time."

"She is..." Mereth hesitates, as rare a thing as the moon passing before the sun. "Seeking herself in the wake of the experience. She seemed angry at herself for her failing and at that which she has lost to the embrace of mortal death, but also..." To your surprise Mereth actually laughs, a small tired sound, absent the malice so often entwined with her mirth. "I'm not certain how much of what I have guessed she would wish me to share, which is a thought so strange I almost expect earth and sky to twist around."

"I have found that in such cases it is best to err on the side of caution, unless it is something that might place her or others in danger?" you half-ask, a fair guess of your own as to what might be happening. To die without the embrace of Hell, without the scouring of infernal punishment might well have tipped Azirah into uncharted waters with regards to her place in the world.

The erinyes' commander snorts, the softness gone from her face as if it had never been. "I am not such a fool as to keep something truly dangerous from you, my lord."

"Of course, my apologies." When you had first taken her into your service you never would have spoken those words to Mereth, knowing that she would take them for a sign of weakness, but you had come far in understanding each other better these past few months.

She waves your words away. "No need, my lord, boundaries must be clearly defined for... new circumstances."

OOC: I'm cutting this off here without a main vote since moving on to the Windward Society would be jarring, so we will handle that after you guys vote on the commission of psionic items.

What would a one-use item of Null Psionics Field at minimum CL (11) cost?
Some of those would be immensly useful, reducing Illithids to squishy humanoids without disturbing our sorcery.

I liked how Viserys was commiserating and expressed sympathy about not quite being able to handle even small failures and not getting things perfect the first time.

Because it is legitimately somewhat of a character flaw for him (acting like he's basically expected to succeed that is, and being a disappointment if he doesn't).

Would have to be used by a Melee PC like Richard, or maybe just Viserys using Spell Battle with Dark Sister.
Not necessarily.
It would be valuable even for a ranged caster, who would still be immune to the foe's psionics.

Of course also disabling their buffs is better, but blocking their powers is still something without that.

Well if the item is a power crystal (a psionic scroll) it would cost 5*6*11*1.7 IM which is 561 IM. I can't remember how single use items anyone can use are priced though. Does anyone here recall?
You would need to be a Psion to use that though, which is contrary to the idea.
And because I don't know about one-use items that aren't scrolls and too strong for potions I was asking.

Yeah but in a way it's more effective if you can halt all attempts at Manifesting, since they could just decide to target someone else. If they get caught in the field itself though they're buggered.

Just checked the official site. Basically you treat it like a potion even though you make it with the wonderous item feat, so double the cost of a scroll so anyone can use it. In our case 1122 IM, though that does seem to make potion making (and the restrictions upon it) rather redundant.

Here's an edited version of the cahpter, DP.

Imperial Infrastructure page updated with the assignment of the Interplanar Whispering Brazier to the Monastery of the Unbroken Circle.

@DragonParadox, while I was on the page, I saw the entry for our Arcane Clocks that were crafted last month. They still need to be installed. That would be a neat interlude.

Imperial Timekeeping - The Arcane Clock
Arcane Clocks consists of a 15 foot diameter by 6 inch thick disk of quartz crystal reinforced with an Adamantine ring and embedded Mithral mesh, all of it magically Hardened for durability and longevity.

Each clock has three distinct sections, an outer ring, a middle ring, and the inner circle.

  • The inner circle has a radius of seven feet, red in color, and divided into 10 segments by Mithral inlays. Every six seconds which passes causes one segment of the inner circle to change from red to black. Each time the inner circle is fully darkened one minute will have passed, which automatically causes it to turn red once more.
  • The middle ring is four feet wide, black in color, and divided into 60 segments by Mithral inlays. With the passage of each minute, or one darkening of the inner circle, one segment of the middle ring changes from black to gold. Each time the middle ring becomes fully gold, one hour will have passed, which automatically causes it to darken once more as well as produce a loud chime.
  • The outer ring is four feet wide and consists of 24 segments, each colored red with a white border. The passage of each hour, or one gilding of the middle ring, causes an outer segment's border to turn red and its color to shift to black, with the exception of a number representing the hour of the day which will remain white. Segments are numbered 1 through 24, starting and finishing at the clock's apex.
  • Multiple Continual Flame enchantments are embedded within each timepiece so that they are brightly illuminated and the time easily discernible regardless of ambient lighting.
  • The timepieces are capable of producing a chime are various intervals of time. When chimes sound out can be changed as needed, but by default they chime hourly.
  • Both faces of the timepiece function as described above.
  • Cost: 380 IM each
Arcane Clocks: x6
They are currently scheduled for installation in: Sorcerer's Deep, Tyrosh, Lys, Myr, Mantarys, and Tolos

One other thing for you guys to keep in mind is that the githzerai do not have an arbitrary number of low level crafters so the more you ask for the slower your commission will be to finish.

What would a one-use item of Null Psionics Field at minimum CL (11) cost?
Some of those would be immensly useful, reducing Illithids to squishy humanoids without disturbing our sorcery.
Just checked the official site. Basically you treat it like a potion even though you make it with the wonderous item feat, so double the cost of a scroll so anyone can use it. In our case 1122 IM, though that does seem to make potion making (and the restrictions upon it) rather redundant.
A single-use items of 6th level would cost 330 IM. The formula is spell/power level (6th) * caster/manifester level (11th) * 50 = 3,330 gp / 10 = 330 IM.

BTW, DP, aren't we using the normal Magic/Psionic interaction, where an Antimagic Field is basically the same as an Antipsionic Field, and a Dispel Magic and Dispel Psionics are indistinguishable in effect, on both magic and psionics?

  1. The gp to IM translation is /5 not /10. The divide by 10 came about because you guys were crafting most of your own items which further halved the price
  2. Don't forget psionic items also cost 70% more hence the *1.7
  3. I'm going with imperfect magic/psionic trnasparency to reinforge the alien nature of Far Realm Power. Powers are better at countering powers and spells at countering spells

Gotta take the pup to the vet for her annual shots (wish they had just done it when she was there last month...), so I don't have time to put together any proposals for psionic items at the moment. There's a lot of really good stuff, but most of what I'm aware of is high level and thus expensive and time consuming to craft.

I think we should instead look at having them create a bunch of useful Psionic Tattoos for us. We can commission them, then come back when they're done and have them transferred to the intended recipients.
