Particularly insane theory -- Jeyne is the Mind Flayer. It somehow projected its entire consciousness into Jeyne to become the ultimate sleeper agent, kind of like how wargs can survive in their animals even after their human body is killed.

Can't we ask Yss even if he is asleep? Maybe ask cutest coatl about it? They are snek bros, and should communicate via divine whatsapp or something even if one is asleep.

In any case, we have many spells to prod into people's memories and psyches.

I say we use a disposable minion and have it root around those memories with her encounter with the Illithid, in case there are boobytraps there.

What was that spell that allowed us to review all the things tha a particular object saw?

We should use that instead of poking dangerous memories.
 
If that's really an Illithid plot, it'll be subtle, and hard to impossible to discover via divination. So - could she 'just' be a good divination (teleport / open gate) anchor?
