Oh hey look a double-update. What is this madness. Well let me tell you! As I've said, I've been waiting literal months to write these last few parts of Arc 2 to the point that some parts of it had basically already been written in my PM conversation with @Sqweaktoy – currently sitting at 14 pages now. This just came pouring out onto the page, and is coming to you a little later than I finished it because I wanted a san check on it and then my internet crashed twice. @egoo you will stop messing with me if you know what's good for you :rage:

Some of you might wonder if Goldfish protocol is about to be needed, and I must disappoint (and probably make happy the sane ones) that it will not be. Why? Viserys didn't do this in front of any witnesses. And he really is offering what he's selling, which always helps. Vote running on PW at present, we'll see how long it takes to reach consensus. If it moves as I expect it to, we should be done with Arc 2 and onto the inter-arc interludes before then. But we'll see.

And you even went with the Doom quote! Amazing.

On a more serious note, if I was Mab I'd probably accept just so I don't have to deal with another Maeve, she did not strike as very clever at all.

Holy shit. You actually went full Dr DOOM.
I love it!!!

I wonder if Harry will tell people he's no longer so affected by his Mantle.
And is this a permanent Mind Blank item, or does this only protect from the Mantle and not from other mental effects?

Yes Dresden has mentioned Spider-Man on multiple occasions. Bob once said of course spidermans real cause the multiverse is a thing in Dresden its just not touched upon. That was an early book I believe. I'm not sure if bob was joking though he seemed pretty sure of it and is a spirit of intellect.

Well, Viserys really did eat an energy field bigger than his head and didn't go mad with power way back during Mantarys, alongside his great lengths to avoid becoming divine by accident.

@Goldfish Oaths can not be broken, lies can not be told. I suggest adding a line akin to "And should you choose to have your tale go in another direction, outside of my service/loyalty, we can work a fair deal on what you have earned to keep yourself, and what is Imperium property. (Fees included)"

Or something c

The only reason I'm bothering to suggest the is that the general aim is to have the Imperium last forever, so if she is tied to that, to something that is 'forever', we should probably give her some sort of out, lest there be a problem two or three thousand years from now.

Over even two or three million.

If her service weren't tied to the Imperium, a forced thingy, the time limit itself would be her "out".

We really should get a Propaganda Center going with funding equivalent to the House of Mirrors and ACSEC combined. So much useful stuff.

I wonder what would happen if we did an experiment with this fey fellow we captured. Shanghai a couple hundred imperial farmers and pay them to literally just talk about this fey prince who's a hero of the empire and faithful servant of King Viserys.

How long would it take for the fey in question to change? What if we leveraged the full power of the three daugthers population for such use?

I'm thinking of a combination of memory wiping him and subsequently shaping him as we please. Results could be interesting.

I love this.
'Fairies hate him! This dragon manipulates the nature of the Fae with 1 weird trick.'
Legit though pretty sure DP confirmed that sort of open manipulation of stories is how you get fairy war.

We need the rest of the Companions to have Mythic ranks before we can comfortably tank a war... but seriously, Crimson Lotus is such a lovely experimental subject.

I wonder... if Fey can be shaped by stories, can Fey be created by stories? Could we get ourselves an order of Fey knights eternally sworn to us by spreading stories about it?

I get what you're saying, but don't quite agree. We're basically offering her a magitek spaceship. For that kind of investment, she can damn well swear herself into our service for the rest of eternity. Fey perceive time differently than mortals, too, and their potentially limitless lifespan gives them the ability to simply outlive most other beings they deal with. No empire lasts forever, and Moonsong knows that. Simply by tying her service to the Imperium's existence, we've given her an eventual out.

sitting in the chair as if it's a throne instead of a simple piece of wood
Two can play that game.
You take the chair directly across from her, and seat yourself with grace enough that you can tell she notices
There we go.

There is a fierce possessiveness there, one you can tell even without previously given advice that you cannot fight directly.
Look, the pot calling the kettle black.
She gives you a faintly disapproving stare, that tugs on something primal even through the Conqueror's Crown, but only lightly. Testing you. Of course.
It kind of bothers me how again and again this is highlighted.

Then again, I doubt she is better at mind-whammy than an Elder Brain, or better at soul-whammy than an Elder Evil. Very good at both, no doubt.

But this particular nogging is protected by Cadia.exe. You will have to break the planet before you break the (literal) firewall.
"I would attempt to give you them to you, as they are,"
Oh damn.
Just as Mab had.

I think that the fact she seems to remember that is what makes her the best of the four younger queens.

"Why would I give to them?" You ask again, and though the words come slowly, they fall with all the inexorable weight of a falling mountain. "I have tasted the power of gods and immortals, Queen of Air and Darkness. I found it…beneath me."

And that's how you gain another Mythic Rank.

Eh elder evils I don't think can destroy a world. Mab has been stated as capable of that if she ever tried if just by dying its been at least confirmed that if any of the courts mantles were not wielded the earth would basically suffer major disasters.

It really depends on the elder evil really.

Damnit Spiderfish! Don't die on us now!

And is this a permanent Mind Blanc item, or does this only protect from the Mantle and not from other mental effects?

It's a Miracle grade effect built on a PfE chassis specifically designed to defend against the mental influence of Winter via what Viserys can remember of Lya talking about Runecrafting. It has the same blanket anti-compulsion effects as PfE though, so all mental effects. It just won't protect against Divination effects.

It's all good. Viserys has Marcone for that. And basically infinite money :V

I have been waiting for months for this.

There is a reason for that.

  • [X] Plan Gotta Catch'em All!
    -[X] Speak with Aemon Naremos.
--[X] Although he was not the ultimate victor of the mage duels, he acquitted himself very well indeed, demonstrating admirable skill as a worker of magic and instinct upon the field of battle. Zherys chose well when he selected Aemon to represent the Mysterium of Volantis, and we believe we have chosen well to offer him land in the newly settled Imperial Province of Draconys. It not the most beautiful or bountiful of lands, but it promises great opportunity, lying so near the ruins of Old Valyria. For one who benefits so much from the blood and viscera carved from Fiends and other monstrous creatures, Draconys might serve as quite the fertile hunting ground.
---[X] Sweeten the deal by taking Aemon on a tour of the Hall of Horrors, then give him a general overview of the Larder and it's contents. The intent is not to show off our exploits, but to instead demonstrate to Aemon the potential reagents and creatures he can potentially gain access to by entering our service.
----[X] Remind Aemon that, should he enter our service, he would be the first Mysterium member to gain admission as a Scholarium Mage of the Imperium, with all the rights and prestige that entails. He need not forswear the Mysterium or his loyalty to Volantis, for they too are our allies.
--[X] Regardless of his decision, present Aemon with his prizes and congratulate him on his performance:
---[X] 3,500 IM, Amulet of Tears, Bracers of Arcane Freedom, Earrings of Arcane Acuity (w/Goggles of the Golden Sun effect), Gloves of the Starry Sky (w/Dispelling Cords effect), Handy Haversack, Healing Belt (+2 Constitution), Launcher, Masterwork Light Crossbow (w/2 quivers of 20 bolts), Masterwork Quarterstaff, Quill of Scribing, Ring of Continual Flame, Ring of Sustenance, Valyrian Steel Dagger(SD Festival Edition)
    ---[X] Alchemical Items: Antiplague (x3), Antitoxin (x3), Auran Mask (x3), Healing Salve (x6), Vermin Repellent (x6), Smokestick (x6), Sunrod (x3), Fungal Stun Vial (x6), Sleep-Smoke (x6), Alchemist's Fire (x6), Liquid Ice (x3), Thunderstone (x3), Tanglefoot Bag (x3)
-[X] Speak with Moonsong the Liminal Sprite.
--[X] Although the offer of land of her own remains on the table, we know Moonsong is not interested in such. Make the offer nonetheless, reminding her that she need not directly administer the land, but could instead appoint someone else to manage it, to use the land as a source of income, a home for the families of her crew, and even a status symbol among Fey and mortal alike.
---[X] Beyond the land that is hers if she wishes it, we have a much more interesting offer, and an opportunity unparalleled. Introduce her to the Wyvern aircraft and use them to demonstrate the development of an entirely new kind of flying vessel, then show her the plans for the Moonchaser which will begin construction in just a few days time. It will be a mighty vessel, able to travel the Planes with greater ease than the Hunter's Moon cuts through the waves of the Narrow Sea, with weapons unmatched in potency and armor proof against all but the mightiest of beings. We can build it with the resources we have gathered and the many skilled enchanters who have entered our service, but we cannot be its captain. We cannot, but Moonsong, one of our most trusted and loyal naval officers, a powerful Fey who has grown far beyond the limits of her less outstanding kindred and who is ready to form her own Court, no, her own Crew, she would be the perfect being to captain the Moonchaser.
----[X] Offer Moonsong the captaincy of the Moonchaser after she returns from the upcoming Yi-Ti expedition, if she is willing to enter into our service so long as the Imperium stands.
    [X] Moonsong Level Up
    -[X] Class: +1 Bard
    -[X] Skills(8 points): +1 Diplomacy, +1 Perform(Comedy), +2 Profession(Officer), +4 Sense Motive

We both get eachother's points here, I think, my problem is that the quoted bit, while true, means that your plan depends on the inevitable failure. It feels odd/bad to rely on the destruction of the Imperium.

Also, I don't want moonsong to have a reason to ever desire to destroy the Imperium, as that would be annoying at the least.

I agree that she'll be happy as long as there is an out, but I don't understand why choose to make it be one we really don't want to happen (even though it will, inevitably), as opposed to choosing something that... isn't that.

As an alternative, how about several hundred/thousand years of service, after that she can leave (negotiating fairly what is hers, and what is Imperium property, as said), and that she is only Captain of the Moonchaser while she is a Captain of the Imperium. When she leaves, the ship, the fighters, all of it remains in the Imperium

Italics on the bit that is a response to your point, and a potential solution. Hopefully.

I agree that this ship, keeping it in the Imperium is the main point, but I hope that the above suggestion is suitable, or that it sparks off some super amazing idea ;)

To elobrate my point to other threadgoers, it comes from this:
"Court of Stars is bound by oaths of fealty and of aid, but to the fey who cannot lie these oaths are hard as adamantine chains and thus oft resented as in Crimson Lotus' case"

Moonsong will be fine for a few hundred years, probably a few thousand since we make a point of being nice to her. I'm not so sure about a few million (and obviously this argument proceeds: if the first million is fine, what about the first few billion ect )

So, we can just make the deal contingent on ownership of the vessel always being to the Imperium, rather than make it inevitable that, unless the Imperium has already fallen, Moonsong is going to want to destroy it (or helps someone else do so).

Finally have time to reply, and really DP :V???

The Crimson Blade (Evocation): The most passionate and straightforward of the queen's direct vassals, she usually takes the shape of a enormous pillar of elemental energy which changes with her mood. Many suspect her of being some manner of unique veela with a fourfold nature. Crimson Lotus abandoned the Indigo Court long ago to serve her, thinking the blade's passions should led him to power. Yet he has found his ambitions unfulfilled in the doing. The lords and ladies sworn to the Crimson Court are either associated with some elemental force of nature or simply drawn to its service by natural destructive ambitions.

"With blood and rage of crimson red,
Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,
Together with our hellish hate,
We'll burn you all--that is your fate!"

The Orange Haze (Enchantment): Oft using their powers against mortals and immortals alike, their passions run almost as bright as the Crimson Court, yet where the fey who drape themselves in crimson are content to triumph through destruction, those of the orange seek to possess and bind in webs of love, longing, or even hate. They are ruled over by an ancient satyr whose voice is said to entrance even the stones he treads upon.

"What's mine is mine and mine and mine.
And mine and mine and mine!
Not yours!"

The Golden Seer (Divination): The faction which likely originated the corrupted 'Bright One' of the Braavosi coast, though he did not keep his inclination to ever search for new truths after finding the 'truth' of the Abyss. The Seer himself appears as a luminous figure whose gaze can drive men mad by revealing unto them the full truths of their beings.

"In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light.
Let those who try to stop what's right
Burn like my power Sinestro's might!"

The Green Warden (Abjuration): Probably the closest to the fey of the Greenwood, though paradoxically not of that kindred, Crimson Lotus has never seen the face of the Warden, though he knows he is the direct patron of the Garth called 'the Green Knight'. Fey of the Green are much prized as diplomats and envoys as well as the shield to guard the court from intrusion, yet they are also suspected of carrying double loyalties with many of them drifting from under the patronage of the Court of Stars altogether. Worse yet it was a faction much beloved by the Slumbering King who ruled before the fey of the land and the Bright Courts were split in twain.

"In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power--Green Lantern's light!"

The Azure Key (Conjuration): Guides along the paths of the Feywild and even further field, the fey of the Orange Court all give service to the mysterious wandering Dryad who has somehow slipped the need to be anchored to her tree saying only that she 'carries it with her'. Fey of the Azure Court are the most likely to deal with beings of other realms of existence, but also the ones to punish forbidden pacts. Crimson Lotus feared that he would see emissaries draped in blue arriving in his court.

"In fearful day, in raging night,
With strong hearts full, our souls ignite.
When all seems lost in the War of Light,
Look to the stars, for hope burns bright!"

The Violet Veil (Illusion): Taking its name from the color of the sky at dusk and dawn, this is the faction Lady Dusk Dancer originated from, more importantly their lady, called the Lady of the Dusk to mortals, is the closest the Queen of the Court of Stars has to a spy mistress. Mighty is she for trickery can oft breed tales in the hearts of mortal men and change the very nature of the court.

"For hearts long lost and full of fright,
For those alone in Blackest Night.
Accept our ring and join our fight,
Love conquers all with violet light!"

The Indigo Mask (Transmutation): Attracting beast-kin and shape-sifters alike, the court is seemingly at constant war with itself or perhaps merely in a constant state of flux as befits their nature. Once long ago Crimson Lotus was counted among their ranks, but he grew prideful in his purpose and did not wish to transform from one state to the next, to rise and fall with the ebb and flow of magic, and so his lady—a mighty river spirit—cast him out.

"Tor lorek san, bor nakka mur,
Natromo faan tornek wot ur.
Ter Lantern ker lo Abin Sur,
Taan lek lek nok--Formorrow Sur!"

At the moment the strongest factions seem to be Gold and Violet in an uneasy alliance to thread the needle of mortal sensibility and return the world to a state the Queen counts more hospitable and better prepared to battle the 'Lost and Forlorn' who have passed under the hand of death, the Others.

"The Blackest Night falls from the skies,
The darkness grows as all light dies.
We crave your hearts and your demise,
By my black hand, the dead shall rise!"

Failure is inevitable. It can be delayed, but it will happen, even if it's a million years in the future. Acknowledging that isn't an issue.

You're being overly paranoid, dude. Some Fey grow disaffected with their Oaths, but most don't. If Moonsong wishes to leave our service at some point in the future, she knows that we would release her rather than force her to serve against her will.
