That's a problem then for multiple combatants. Glyra isn't up to a full casting battle with Spellthief levels, Mia is plainly to weak for this, Moonsong is also dead on arrival.
They can enter if they want to, they'll just lose :D

Glyra can steal spells from Daenaerys beforehand, no problem. Moonsong and Mia got here by crushing weak magelings (luck of the draw). They'll try their best with trickery and stealth, but will probably lose their first fights. That's a feature, not a bug - people have to lose :D

It's a solid build, but it's got no chance of winning this fight considering the opposition. It's good at buffing things (I expect it to kick ass in the teamfights) but 1v1 it's rather subpar.

Oh its awful in 1v1, but DND barely ever has 1v1 encounters outside events like the Tourney. If I had my way every single one of our combat mages would go that build. Well, that one or the Rainbow Warmage variant. Its the ultimate buff machine.

I think I'm going to step away for a while.

But seriously. Pull out Glyra, Nuri and Mia, add Tyene, Lya and maybe Rina so that we don't completely embarrass ourselves by having our vassals and random people outperform everyone we send ourselves.

True. Here's what I'll do so we can have an interesting fight:

Retcon Amrelath and get rid of the no weapons rules. I had this picture in my head of a dragon having to stay there and take attacks while his breath recharged and it felt like a tense fight but ultimately you are right, too many of the other characters I want to use just don't work with the rules.

Taena is still the biggest fish besides maybe Wylla in that list.
And of course Amy.

Where did you find this again? I love this. Did you homebrew it?
Yep, homebrew.
DId get very little attention back then.

Let's go all out. All the companions in the competition as it should have been for maximum awesomeness

He can still counterspell, Wings of Cover and maybe Ancestral Awakening to get an offensive spell.
That picture wouldn't have worked particularly well anyway.

Fully support the new decision.

Of course they work!
They're just at a disadvantage, but they can win.

Amrelath: plays as a Sorcerer with massive saves and a fondness for punching people :D
And he has Ancestral Awakening and Wings of Cover, that's pretty good.

Glyra: borrows a few spells from Daenerys, uses alchemical items (hide in smoke, entangle people, etc)

Moonsong: illusions to hide of she wins initiative, then probably lose unless her hideous laughter works somehow. Sucks to be her, but her pride and good saves means that it makes sense for her to get this far!

Mia: yeah, she'll probably lose fast. Sucks to be her. But she's powerful enough to get this far (assuming most entrants were scrubs) so it makes sense for her to lose here.

Valaena: Yeah, she really shouldn't be here if weapons aren't allowed. Thanks, bye.

EDIT: You know who's really screwed here? That level 5 Scholarum Sorcerer. He doesn't even have level 3 spells! What a madman!
He probably got here by winning initiative and smashing everyone with a Scorching Ray for a ton of damage :D

He would have still had his breath weapon and just smashed though things.

@DragonParadox, since the fire immunity for weirwoods was unlocked at the Fungus Forge, can we assume the Tree of Lys has it by default?

Yes it will.

I was kinda expecting something were the average contestant would be level 5-7, but this list has an average level of 10 for those people that have actual levels.

Edit: And I didn't even include things like Damphir template for Wyla or adjustments for high-cheese builds like Taena, the Drow or Nuri being full-caster with full BAB.

At this point, you might as well divide even the magic competition according to "weight" class.

Edit: One between scrubs. The next between real Mages and Wizards.

I thought about doing that but then Sduri is the new Amrelath and I can't think of any reason for her not to participate.
Arriving too late to sign up?

It's not that I don't want those people to participate, but if we had known that they would, I would have campaigned to enter actual Companions into the fray. Waymar would look rather spiffy in that line-up right now.

Next tourney we can have a junior and senior bracket.

Though I admit I had the same expectation. Aemon is by far the most powerful contestant I created or suggested.
The Oread Warmage and the Feydrake are minor casters, mostly in line with a Scholarium-alumni.
The Nymph is stronger, but only by her racial abilities, not her casting.

My predictions for possible winners, in order (despite current lack of knowledge of stats):
  1. Teana. Her Shadow-traced template lets her horribly abuse the action economy, especially if each trace can throw alchemical items. And she's a strong caster with a good defense and versatile spells (illusion & enchantment are good). There's a reason why we were originally going to make her be a judge!
  2. Siduri. She's damn good, at least level 12, and she's experienced (and probably has excellent gear).
  3. Wyla. Level 13 is no joke either.
  4. Aemon Naremos [Volantene Wizard lvl 8-10]
  5. Silore of the Lhorulu [Fey Lady/Nymph] - no idea here, but surely a Fey lady has her tricks ?
  6. Whisperer, Shadow Weaver of the Orphne Court [Advanced Shadow Collector] - Shadow Conjuration and Shadow Enchantment are excellent, as if her chassis.
  7. Drizzil Bluecloak [Fearie Dragon Oracle lvl 4-10] - looks like the weakest choice here, but the very solid chassis should help.
I thought about doing that but then Sduri is the new Amrelath and I can't think of any reason for her not to participate.
While I did share Azel's idea of the average level of entrants, finding more decently levelled people isn't a bad thing either.

I guess I could do that.

It would be much more awkward to slot in companions.

I also need to loop off two levels off that Volantine mage but I think it's doable.
