That is your best guess right now, though according to Mereth it's less a specter and more conglomerate of lost souls moving with singular purpose.
This makes me wish we'd found the time to read this book.
Scrolls of the Lost Lineages

Description:
A set of tightly-wrapped scrolls on the history of Valyria's ruling houses, though more valuable for the glimpse they grant into the lives and deportment of those long dead lords and ladies than the historical events described herein.

Content: A character who studies this book for seven days and makes a DC 12 Intelligence check during the process learns enough of the arcane courtesies of the Forty Families to gain +2 Knowledge (Nobility & Royalty) regarding the Forty Families of Valyria as well as +1 Bluff, Diplomacy, and Sense Motive when interacting with specters, constructs, or other time-lost survivors of the Doom.
Definitely would have come in handy here.
So as I was going thought he schedule I just realized, I entirely missed 'Journey to the North'

That was the one here you visited the Thenns right?
@DragonParadox, not quite. It was to build castles for the Night's Watch via Lyres of Building.
-[X] Journey to the North: Pay a visit to the Night Watch. Make further repairs and improvements using the Lyre of Building, then visit the Weirwood Door hidden in the Night Fort to make a sacrifice substantial enough to restore its power. Destroy the Lyre utterly once Xor is finished with it.
--[X] Assigned: Xor, Maelor, Aradia, Soft Strider, Argo

OK then I can move it up to now. Would an interlude next work or would it feel too jarring for you guys?

Personally that would feel too jarring for me, especially since they've got diplomatic stuff they're taking care of right now. I'm perfectly fine to get a briefing on it at the end of the month or whenever it is we get back from Valyria rather than breaking up the current flow.

OOC: Malarys rolled really well for diplomacy so far, but you have a sense he is walking a knife's edge. Anything that can help him out without giving the game away would be a great benefit.
Okay. We obviously need more information, but at the same time I'm a bit worried about Malarys. @DragonParadox, I'm assuming that Viserys needs to keep up his act as a Valyrian Dragon or something, and that we can't aid Malarys with Divine Insights? What shape is Dany in right now? Could she discreetly help him out in diplomacy?

I'm less worried about a fight -- we can probably win a fight -- and more worried about losing this source of intel when we really need it.

Creepy spectral puppet show is creeping me out.

[X] Continue on to the city
-[X] Scout by air, but do not enter until examining the city for any lingering wards or Arcane defenses.

I love interludes, but this really isn't a good time for it. Let's have it when we next stop to sleep!
We're going to have to: the Archon-minions don't have Rings of Sustenance.

Don't forget to vote, folks. If you want to skip the creepy ghosts, vote for me.

I'm slightly creeped out, but mainly would like to give the conglomerate a hug.
That said, if we want to find a way to bring them peace, we could get that Deva we released from the brewer's families village.
That Deva really has his work cut out for him. There've got to be legions of ghosts in Valyria, right alongside fiends waiting to prey upon whoever happens to venture inland.

Damn it. So this would take way, way longer than I was hoping. I'm not willing to spend days here.

@Goldfish @One Autumn Leaf @egoo @LonelyWolf999 @Dracikral @Takesis heads up that I'm changing my vote. Normally I'd never change my vote like this against getting all the loot, but this is not an amount of time I'm willing to sacrifice considering what other loot we can get. I thought this would only take a few hours. :(

[X] Continue heading south on the Old Coast Road
We could still have done the whole have Dany resurrect someone and have them show us the caches, we can still do that, not today, as Goldfish pointed out we don't have the spell prepared so it would cost ideas, but we could prepare it the following day, and teleport to raise someone and have them show us the caches, we even have an in character reason for doing that, Dany's prophecy hint they will come back in some form anyway, better to revive one of them properly than have to deal with undeads, vengeful because their prophesied savior didn't help them.

Edit. Ok wrote this before I read the most recent update, from the discussion it sounds as if they have already turned into some form of undead abomination.

Edit2. Ok having read the update, I see the undead abomination is entirely separate from the scavenger tribe that worshipped us, so I will stand by my statement that we can always teleport and resurrect someone once we have resurrection prepared, to get those caches, from Dany's prophecy it might even save us later trouble.

He could donate some of his self into being part of a dreamcatcher thing for lost ghosts! Just a bit to get the pattern and we fill in the gaps with money.

May attract fiends and hostile ghosts by it's inherntly hopefully nature (relief-from-torment). But it was just an idea for this one group.

I really don't want to skip this cool and interesting plotline!
We can almost certainly kill them too if needed anyway

[X] Stay the 'night' and try to obtain more information

-[X] Try to figure out how aware they are of the present and of their current state
-[X] Is there anything they want?
-[X] Try to figure out what's dangerous in the area now (and back then)
-[X] Worst case, Boodwish True Seeing, Blink (to be a little etheral) and maybe Speak With Dead

Maybe we could find somewhere a Weirwood could grow, as holy places for peaceful contemplation, they sound like the perfect place for restless spirits to find peace, although of course we first have to find somewhere plants grow.

The tradeoff is that you're putting Malarys in a tough spot that he definitely isn't pleased with. The poor guy has probably avoided thinking about Essaria every since we recruited him, and here he'll be forced to talk about it like it was never destroyed.
