@Raichu1972 @TotallyNotEvil

Or I have presented my arguments several times before, like, when TNE brought the idea up way back in Braavos. Then several times thereafter, I think that should count.

Some of the quick consensus comes from five of us discussing this out of thread too.

Ive always been against ship idea. The seed is Vee to decide over. It was given to her.

And you read what she suggested, CotF glade!

Let.

Vee.

Decide.
Honestly, my feelings on Vee's choice is that she has had at least a year to bring up doing something about the seed to us, either in casual conversation or during more serious tasks.

That she was perfectly okay with us sitting on the seed for so long indicates that she doesn't feel particularly opinionated about what we intend to do with it.

Or is it a QM fluke...

But whatever, now I dont have time to keep tab on this. But the vote will reopen when I am back right?

I'm pretty certain that using the ship against the Illithid is a terrible idea. Not only are fey affected far more by Far Realm shenanigans, but the ship becomes mind-controllable.

It's a recipe for disaster.
For all we know, strong enough fey will just get angry at the stinging scent.

And avoiding compulsions is child's play if we put in any effort.

There are still endless underwater armies to contend with, too.

The last time we fought a serious Illithid force, our PfEs were nearly exploding from the overload.

It is decidedly not childs play to shut off our enemies main weapons.

I just wanted everyone to get their say...:(
And that is very much appreciated. Thanks, DP.

This time it works in my favor, but other times I've gone to sleep with a vote wrapped up tight and ready to hit the tally, only to wake up and see that folks from other time zones have been able to log in and cast their votes, leaving my plan the clear loser.

@Everyone I can see how that can frustrate people, as it has me before, but that's just the nature of the beast. When there is such a hotly contested subject, one that we've argued over for literal years IRL, in probably more than a dozen separate instances, it is only fair that everyone get a chance to weigh in. Giving DP shit for doing a good job as QM is not cool, even if you're just passive aggressively pouting in his direction.

Also, if I may?
@DragonParadox, considering the whole shitsow that happened yesterday, I feel that I must point out, that "Reopen the closed vote with a definitive winner because some people come back too late and raise a stink" is as much of a bad thing as "Someone sneaked a thing into a vote and everyone have to deal with it later".
Please don't do that anymore.

Yes, I'm salty.
I can deal with this, but that doesn't do anything to lower my current salt levels.

The updates are fast in this quest, and this is great.
But some decisions need discussion, and some plans have their very invested proponents and opponents.
To close a vote when the one(s) invested most in a plan did not have a chance to argue for it is a bad idea in my opinion, so I think that reopening the votes under such circumstances is a good idea.

I am saying this even being mostly ambivalent about this vote.

@DragonParadox, unrelated to the current vote, there was an idea floating around to get a proper supply of fiendish blood: namely, to use either our Fungus Forge or a Flesh Forge to create a sort of living vat that produces Fiendish Blood by the barrel. Obviously this would require a lot of research and would be prohibitively expensive to produce, but it would be a boon for things like Valyrian Steel and Magebane Poison (provided we can split the blood up into devilish and demonic). Would you be okay with letting us have that as a long-term research project? Even only having it for Valyrian Steel would be neat. Magebane Poison can be made through other means if necessary.

I for one appreciate that the vote was re-opened so that TNE could make his case, despite not really being a fan of the ship idea myself.

Then, and I see no way to phrase that without sounding like an asshole, DP is at fault for closing the vote at all.

Most of my salt right now is over my silent "celebration" of victory on topic i'm invested in being stopped flat by vote reopening.

There were times before, when I did not get to take part in a vote, yet I never raised stink, did I?
That time with thieves guild in Braavos a little ago for example.
I think we should have taken the guild under our unofficial leadership.
I would have voiced that opinion had I been available.
But I was not, Azel stormed the vote and won.
And never once after that I said anything on the topic.

So, yeah.
I'm firmly of the opinion that if someone doesn't make their opinion apparent while vote is open, has only themselves to blame.

I project the way I play heavily on other players, yes. That's not a good thing, yes. I'm trying to deal with this, yea.

If we do end up using the seed on the Doomship, it opens up the possibility of a new Fey Court coming into being, if the cards fall just right.

How should we try to influence the development of that Court? Aquatic Fey? Plant Fey? Both?

Maybe supplement the crew with Leshy created in the Fungal Forge?

I wanted to try and squeeze in some research on real-life biology and planning for that next week. The matter shouldn't be that complicated, but probably quite expensive.

As a counterpoint, there were many times we just all agreed on "let's wait for this particular fella to post, as this is his pet project" and waited.

That's honestly pretty amazing. We usually live in downright harmony here.

By the way...

Twilight - Eberron Pathfinder

Twilight

Aura: Faint Abjuration; CL: 5th
Price: +1 bonus
Source: EB, pg. 154

Description: Armor with this special quality have their arcane spell failure chance reduced by 10%, to a minimum of 0%. This stacks with other sources that reduce the arcane spell failure chance.

Construction Requirements: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Ant Haul
The Twilight enchantment is so, so cheap! o_O And only CL 5?! Couldn't we have gotten Valaena in Mithral Fullplate by now?

Here's some other stuff I found on the subject:
  • Twilight, Magic Item Compendium and Player's Handbook II, reduces arcane spell failure by 10%. +1 equivalent, magic.
  • Feycraft, Dungeon Master's Guide II, reduces arcane spell failure by 5% among other things. 500 gp, mundane. Requires that the armorsmith be fey.
  • Mithral, SRD, reduces arcane spell failure by 10% among other things. 1,000 gp for Light Armor or Shields, 9,000 gp for Heavy Armor, mundane.
  • Caster, Dragon vol. 358, reduces arcane spell failure by 5%. 400 gp (light), 700 gp (medium), or 1000 gp (heavy), mundane. Requires that the armorsmith have a particular feat.
  • Thistledown Padding, Races of the Wild, reduces arcane spell failure by 5% among other things. 250 gp, mundane.
I know for a fact that Thistledown Padding has been talked about before, I just didn't really know what it was. But in any case, this makes me want a Fey Smith at some point. I'm sure we'll be able to find one eventually. We'll be able to do fun things with that.

@Goldfish @TotallyNotEvil a couple questions on the subject if you guys don't mind.
1. What's the arcane spell failure chance for Chainmail, Breastplate, Plate, and Full Plate?
2. Do different metals have different spell failure chances?
3. Is the spell failure different between arcane and divine casters?
4. If we put Twilight on fullplate right now, would that be a good option for Valaena?
5. If we stick Twilight on an Extreme Animated Shield, would that make it worth it for Viserys or is that still a no?

I'm expecting it to be extremely tough given what we'll be getting out of it, but by that point we will have well and truly earned our living blood bags.

This seems like a great project for Naria next month, as well as something we can assign to the days that we're freed up with the unexpected completion of the Jorel Fairwind research action.

I was actually hoping to pair Naria with the Qohorik Smith for research on rediscovering how to make Valyrian Steel if that's alright with the rest of you. She spent four days this month studying the Lich's library, and from DP's tight lips on the subject I'm hopeful for good results. She'd be a pretty massive help there.

Of course, provided that Lya won't need her to help finish up the Dedicated Wrights action.

And on the matter of smithing, I'm pretty sure we can now resurrect the Mage-Smith we have killed some time ago.

Research action on that had already been done by now, if not mentioned in any capacity.

We have a ritual almost tailor-made for that too.

1) Armor.
2) Insofar as Mithral reduces.
3) Divine casters don't have one. Some arcane also not.
4) Do the math - see 1)
5) Not necessary, it's animated therefore spell failure chance == 0.
