Yeah Craster's sacrifice's probably don't come near ours by themselves, but who say he's the only Other worshipper sacrificing to them?
Even with the collective sacrifices of the current generation of Other Worshipers, I highly doubt they can match the efficiency of Viserys and the Companions, and I also doubt that they can get sacrifices anywhere near as powerful as the ones we're able to ensnare.

We sacrifice powerful fiends, aberrations, cultists, undead, a freaking Genius Loci.

The relative power of gods and god-like beings is unimportant to us, they are all beyond us for now and many levels to come, only how much they can bring to bear in this world matters.

So cheaply imbuing minions with serious power is ultimatly more useful to the Others than growing stronger from sacrifices.
Yeah so the actual greatest thing we have gotten for the old gods, are probably the Flesh Forge, there minions can be forged for a sacrifice in corpses, and even those we pay for probably have some level of inherent loyalty to the old gods.

Part MMCXXXI: An Echo of Mirth
An Echo of Mirth

Seventeenth Day of the Third Month 293 AC

The thought of all such a spirit could do is almost breathtaking... and yet so are the pitfalls. Had you not already built the Inquisition you could easily see yourself falling into the same trap as the Silver Eye, trading years, decades of safety for swift and sure communications. "Such a spirit would be of great use... but not as a spy."

Lya turns to you, surprised, as Alysande merely nods, either understanding your reasoning or not wishing to pry. There is no reason not to find out which, and warn her if there is need. "It creates too dangerous a fracture point, builds dependencies that can be exploited..."

"Do you not trust the Lady's character or her power?" The first among the Silver Eye asks, her voice carrying nothing save polite curiosity.

"Gods are strange... primal, timeless, and unbending," you reply after a moment finding your words. "That is surely a great comfort to those seeking shelter in faith and miracles, but it can make them unreliable given the ever-changing realities of mortal life. Beyond that their servants can be captured, twisted, or driven mad. Too much of a risk no matter the prize."

"What would you use this spirit for then, less delicate messages?" Lya's gaze fades into the distance for a moment. "Perhaps showing songs or plays. That would fit with some of what they taught at the temple."

"Music cannot travel through the mirrors," Alysande interjects. "Agents using them must 'speak' with their hands, not wholly a bad thing for spy-work in that it adds another veil of secrecy, but.. "

You briefly consider giving up on the whole notion as not worth the effort for all involved. However, it soon becomes apparent Lya is not done considering the matter: "You could have it show Tyroshi plays, the wordless ones."

"Didn't those go out of fashion a century and more ago?" you ask, briefly thinking back to a line you read on the history of the city a few days before its conquest.

"Yes, it is old, it's traditional," Lya leans closer with a smile whose twin you have so oft seen in the mirror. "That's what so many of the damn magisters are arguing about, isn't it? That you do not respect their glorious past?"

"So you mean to give them something harmless to amuse themselves with, yet which obviously required some effort on my part to arrange," you finish, catching on, before giving her a mock-suspicious look. "Are you sure you don't want a city to rule over?"

Lya seems to be seriously considering the merits of kicking you and only just deciding against it.

***

The temple of the Moonsingers seems at first unchanged by the passage of time, but before you can cross the threshold Alysande stops you with an outstretched hand. "Pull up your cloaks and release your glamours," she counsels. "There is a ward in place that reacts rather loudly to attempts at arcane trickery. "

"How fortunate for us both that it was not here three years ago,"
Lya whispers in your ear upon a spell-wrought wind.

"I like to think you would have chased me down even if you did know I wasn't a Faceless Man," you answer, amused.

If nothing else the speed with which the highest and most respected among the Moonsingers arrive proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Alysande was not exaggerating when she spoke of the favor she had gathered. Here they stand: men and woman garbed in flawless white and without ornament, and among them one being you had not truly expected to see again: shining like quicksilver with eyes as embers bright, the Herald of the Laughing Moon lands unceremoniously upon the table between the bread and the grape bowl before plucking a handful of the latter to devour.

From the looks of the priests they did not expect the spirit's presence, and some of them might perhaps possess reservations about it, though they would never speak it. By contrast Lya looks at the little thing with perhaps a trace of the reverence she had accorded it the first time you encountered it, but mostly as though she would dearly like to interview it for a few hours... or possibly days.

"How was the door? Hope you didn't bring too much back with you from the other side," the Herald said seemingly idly. "Nasty place, that."

How do you answer?

OOC: You guys wanted to explain your laws and the reasons behind them, so I thought I'd give you a chance to fine-tune the presentation. Also if you want Sorcerer's Deep in spite of Lya's idea following her successful knowledge history roll you can of course say so here.

He's only been giving the Others babies. We've been feeding the Old Gods fiends, aberrations, a crapton of cultists, etc.
*Craster stands in front of a pit labelled "Others" and tosses a newborn in*
Craster: "Receive this great boon my masters and grow stronger for it!"
Viserys: "Fucking amateurs..."
*proceeds to empty a huge wheelbarrow filled with assorted fiends and cultists into the adjacent "Old Gods" pit*
Viserys: "Do you even sacrifice?"

@DragonParadox, can we negotiate with the Mirror Mephit for more Mirrorways to different planes?

What does the Mephit deem as valuable?
This is a very you thing to say.

Suspiciously almost...

You haven't been replaced by a changeling have you?

Edit: Oh.

You want to sell blood sacrifice and working with fiends and/or demons to chaotic good priests.

....

@DragonParadox Did the Moonsinger send her herald for social combat? Cause it sounds like she know we were about to diplowhammy her cult into agreeing with whatever we want and she sent the herald to make it more... challenging.

Not that challenging is bad mind you. Having your beliefs tested. Especially tested hard. Is important to figuring out how they work

It just seems like something a chaotic good goddess would do. (Send their herald to disabuse the shit out of some notions.)

See, shit like this is why we keep getting the good stuff.

Why waste shinies on some pleb that's giving you some innocnet newborn like it's some kind of delicacy when Viserys will not only run into hell for spicy demon taco's from the local taco bell, but will also give treats from othet planes, Other snow cones, and good old fashioned traitors to human kind just like mama used to make.

Some people settle for getting Mcdonalds, we're a southern grandma that's going to feed you until she's damn sure you're full and will still try to guilt you into taking one more plate for the road.

If I was a God I would definitely send some sort of magical servant if a Dragon were to come into my temple and start to negotiate with my mortal priests using his supernatural diplomacy skill.

The gods multiply sacrifices based on their themes, the Old Gods fight against the other, Alien and Monstruous, also willing Blood Sacrifice and the blood of mages is always better

What would be more worthy to give to the Others than a new born life?

What would be more worthy to give to the Others than a new born life?

It is efficient from the sacrificer's point of view, but not from the Other's point of view.

That the Old Gods value Undead HD more than normal HD doesn't mean that there is inherently more power in it, just that they have a hate-boner for it and they will reward you more for disposing of their hated enemies.

The sacrificer's reward is the God's price. The higher the reward, the less power the God gets.

Or we could, you know, record the audio of the actors on a separate mass produced artifact and use the mirrors for the video only and have the actors lipsync it.

Preliminary plan. Got kind of wordy. Did I leave anything important out?

[X] Plan Storytime
-[X] Viserys nods in response, a rueful smile upon his face. "Indeed, the Plane of Molten Skies is no place for the unprepared or weak of heart, and not merely due to the fiery climate. It was a fell place, and one that could have claimed the lives of myself and my Companions many times over, but it also served its purpose, and as a result we have grown stronger and made valuable contacts with friendlier sorts of beings out among the Planes."
--[X] "You have my thanks for that introduction to realms beyond the boundaries of mortal existence, perilous though the lesson proved to be. It is good to see you back among those loyal to your goddess."
-[X] After greetings have been exchanged between our small party and the Moonsingers, explain the reason for our visit.
--[X] We are always interested in introducing benevolent or even neutral deities to our lands. If the Moonsinger is willing, we will set aside a parcel of land in Sorcerer's Deep for a temple to be built in her name, with material support and magical aide provided by the state.
--[X] We wish to learn what would be required to gain the services of a Watcher spirit for those cities under our purview. They can rest assured that we would not use the Watchers for nefarious purposes, merely to facilitate rapid communication and perhaps to allow those who cannot be present to enjoy various sorts of entertainment, limited of course by the Watcher's inability to share sounds.
-[X] Although we would like to establish closer ties to the Moonsinger, we would understand if our own laws and practices would make this impossible.
--[X] Explain the laws of our kingdom, including the use of blood sacrifice against enemies of humanity, both to gain power to strengthen ourselves and our realm, and to permanently diminish the forces of our enemies, who in some cases cannot otherwise be permanently destroyed.
--[X] If these practices are unacceptable to the Moonsinger and the tenets of her faith, then we will politely take our leave after thinking them for meeting with us so quickly.
---[X] We would also be most unappreciative if they falsely claimed acceptance, only to later, after becoming establishing Sorcerer's Deep, attempt to change or interfere with such practices.

That's exactly what my Southern grandma tries to do!

Well, she did before I just convinced her to come live with me. Now I get grandma cooking just about every day.

So wait who's this herald douchebag again

So wait who's this douchebag again

He's the Mirror Mephit we freed from captivity after ganking Damphair and taking Torturer's Deep for our own. He granted us a boon, which we used to have him create the Mirror Portal that we used to access the Plane of Molten Skies before any of party members had the juice to cast Plane Shift. It was a pretty pivotal moment in our adventuring careers, taking that first step beyond the Prime Material out into the Planes.
