Hmmm. So do we know that we have to give power of the purse to Parliament if we want to upgrade our system of government up a stage?

Because if so, then Freedom becomes a lot more appealing, even with problems balancing the Houses.

Considering that the Sketch have power of the purse to their parliament, and they're running a more advanced system of government than us as per AN, I'd say yes.

And without them fucking over the Hung and boosting the Nohon we could have already be done with carrying the Hung's no doubt ungrateful asses and thus have more resources to devote to our own goals.
No way to stop them. Literally no way to do so, we couldn't even stop the Nohon let alone both. The Sketch, as an Island nation with the world's best fleet, are very hard to stop right now.

FREEDOM doesn't give the lower house power of the purse though, only minor lawmaking...
FREEDOM gives the power of the purse to the Upper House, something we almost certainly will want to invest in the Lower House when they get sufficient experience/education levels/representation of the general populace.

Remember how much trouble it was breaking the Guilds, an entrenched power bloc? Now consider how easy it will be to take back political power from the Upper House to give to the Lower.
At least the Guilds had no military power.

Might as well vote though.

Literally removing power from the upper house. They'll love that.

Can I get a cite?
I'm fairly sure we're not just in this to be Sketch lite.
And there are advantages in being a late adopter, and not following too quickly; you allow people work out the kinks first before following suit.

Power balancing the Houses is going to be a pain, but by the same token, upgrading our government's also a huge benefit... Hmmm. I'll think about it.

Just need to cut them off from resupply ports.

We also have a world-class Navy and if how evenly matched we are with the Hes means anything, world's best isn't an autowin especially if we don't fight them alone and not in another hemisphere from our industrial core.

How many other great powers hate the Sketch again? And how many are we currently also in a coalition with?

The hell it is.

Before: on paper the upper house has veto
After: on paper the upper house has veto
De facto they've got lawmaking capability. Don't be abstruse; they'll know when they've lost power, they won't like it, and I don't blame them.

It'll be a step backwards, and the entire point of ConCon is to move forwards.

The hell it is.

Before: on paper the upper house has veto
After: on paper the upper house has veto
Before: the Upper House has a veto on paper but the power of Minor Lawmaking de facto
After: the Upper House only has a veto, both on paper and de facto

Yes, it is taking power away from them. But surely this won't piss off the nobles at all!

Observe.
[x] Cornuthaum's Constitutional Convention Cvote 1820
-[x][UH] +1 PW - Veto (Nobles pleased)
--[X][UH] 0 PW De facto changed to Minor Lawmaking due to Young King
-[x][LH] 0 PW - Advisory
-[x][Assembly] 0 PW - Limited
-[x][Guilds] 8 PW - Crush and remake them (-2 Temp Happiness, -1 IC, -1 SoL, -1 Educ, -3 Active Development, +25% Total Development, Gain the Broken Economy status, immediately transition to Early State Industrialist economy, Merchants angered)
-[x][Conscript] +1 PW - Universal service (+1 Armies, +1 Militancy, -2 SoL, Temp version of Raise Armies improved)
-[x][Citizen] 2 PW - Military service (+1 Temp Happiness if also taken with Universal Service)

Enshrining it as veto removes the de facto power that they've had for the last 20 odd years. Hence, lowers the power of the Upper House.

you mentioned that the Kielmyr and Sketch both have parliaments with power of the purse and in general we're one of the more absolute monarchies regarding parliament, but how do we compare in press/assembly rights and treatment of minorities?

Press you are about average if still on the autocratic side of things, assembly you are behind most of the other constitution monarchs, but are better than most on minority rights.

The hell it is.

Before: on paper the upper house has veto
After: on paper the upper house has veto

The Upper House will interpret Nokly codifying that he has the power in the relationship as an attack on their rights despite the fact that they don't actually have them. This will cause trouble later, even if all Nokly has to do is hold his ground.

I want quotes from AN on this.

If the Upper House doesn't have minor lawmaking or better they will see it as an assault on their privilege and you will probably have calls for a new constitution immediately (but not be able to do it for at least another decade) while if the commoners don't get a parliament with teeth and loosened censorship laws they will also be pissed at the end of the conference and probably be calling for an immediate do over.
