I wouldn't say they are too sinister. I mean, it's not like we're actually willing to put up with the mess that is conquering a country this days, nationalism and all. People think it'd be great if we could, but we really can't and we know it. No one's crazy enough to demand any clay from this war.

Sketch propping up the Nohon and helping them industrialize is very much so against our interests, as it will make them a much more difficult opponent to defeat in another confrontation, as well as giving them another leg up over the Hung.

So yes @Dutch , other nations enabling our rivals and maneuvering things to our detriment is a perfectly reasonable thing to be frustrated by.

I can understand some frustration - we are all human, after all, and it does make things harder for us. General "How dare those bastards act against us! Literal stab in the back!" outrage, however, I find ridiculous.

We need to send an espionage mission to the Sketch with the sole goal of distabilizing them/general fucking them over for the next several turns as they are determined to fund our enemies. Might as well as leverage our espionage to steal industry secrets and build up rebel groups there.

Look what they did with it.

It isn't 1848 yet. People still pay lip service to principle. If we say we care about starving Kus peasants and Nohon atrocities who's going to tell us otherwise. We fed the Syffrynites when they were starving. And so will say the many paid op ed pieces in our booming free press. If they want to be cynical, why yes, we want what they've got and we don't like their influence on the margins of our continent - which is a good reason to look for excuses.

It's not like anyone but Jenkins actually cared about Jenkins's ear.

And to steal all their navel tech. If we beat Nohon to ironclads we win. Shetch seems to be the group to spy on for that.

Espionage missions against the Sketch might sabotage them but doesn't actually gain us much, really we need to focus them against the Nohon and use them to discredit any rebellious governors of the Hung.

Both are good. Slight preference towards Freedom, but better these than anything lesser.
 
As for ironclads, AN had this to say:
"If the Nohon concentrate on ironclad research they could potentially have it within two decades by buying from those who have steamships and the ironworking tech already, but they would be really, really hurting for resources from the effort".

We have 3 turns for ironclads in the pacific people..

I'd honestly probably prefer veto for LH rather than minor lawmaking, but definitely rather this than full 'plan freedom'

They are the world leaders in industry and we can't keep letting them snowball especially as being set on fire somehow only made them stronger.

Frankly at this point we aren't going to win this race without at least trying to break their legs.
Concerns about making them angry no longer matter since even at neutral/friendly they like stabbing at us deniably.
We need to do the same or get used to just sucking up and taking it.
