Hey wait a minute...

GM, what Year is it in game?

Because as I recall Karl Franz was born Before 2470. It was in 2470 specifically that he and his father got saved from a beastmen attack by wood elves.

Annnd...

It was 2470 when the quest started.

Which means we Didn't Kill Karl Franz, huzzah!

Important that we show use to belegar, and greatest chance is support comes from. colleges.

a single stylized seed carved from jade and inlaid with golden filigree.

I gotta say, this is one seriously baddass little seed. It's super cool that it's implanted in the hand, and it has a shockingly useable recharge. We seriously lucked out with this, both getting enough favors for it and also in how it's even more powerful and reusueable than we could have hoped for.

Those 10,000 soldiers can be a very potent asset if they're led competently and with purpose, whereas 3 journeymen will have a very minor effect on a campaign of this scale no matter their leadership.
I remember there being a journeyman wizard that had a pretty large effect on the campaign they participated in. Recently even. Somewhere in Sylvania I think?
The dwarfs however, do not have any units which behave like wizards. At best they'd be used like they're adventurers, at worst sidelined.
And if the journeymen don't have a formal representative, who of his war council do you think the Dwarven King to be will ask about what to do with them? And how probable is it that said journeymen will not listen to informal requests done by the Magister general of the largest human military contingent present? It's not like the dwarves will try to poach this human caster assistance from the human armies either. At worst we frequently lose the Ambers to the knights or the Ulricans, where they will do just fine anyway.
If we try, it really won't be too hard to all but bind the journeymen to us over the course of the campaign, even without the right to outright command them. Getting an informal leadership over the Stirland contingent while officially being the King's human magic liaison will be much harder, especially since we have no clue who will be their official leader or how competent he'll be. For all we know they might stay leaderless and instead be split up between the three knight orders, which would be a disservice.
A Wizard General that uses his Mil stat to lead an army and occasionally speaks with the other wizards as to what they should do seems much more useful that a Magister that tries to micromanage a disparate group of mages while occasionally keeping an eye out for her countrymen.

@BoneyM do we have any idea as to who may be leading the Stirlanders in case we don't? Did they even have any officers or generals following along or is it just rank and file soldiers who dislike the idea of learning to use guns?

Can you provided the citations for @BoneyM ?

I just had the damned page open and closed it! Searching now. It was related to the Drakwald though. Karl was still young, and traveling with his dad through he Drakwald with the Reiksguard when they got hit by a major beastmen horde.

The Reiksguard got mulched by Ghorgon's, but then suddenly wood elves.

Gonna try and find that damn citation again.

We contributed more as a warrior and a spymaster then a wizard. Besides, we were pretty much magister level by the time the conflict got going.

We oneshotted a vampire with burning shadows, which in that situation probably equals saving three or four thousand soldiers. We also didn't make any major campaign contribution as a spymistress.

And we also choose the skill that benefits scouting too.

Warrior of Fog: Appreciation of and focus on mastering the fickle fog of war. +2 martial, bonuses to scouting and hidden gambits while in command, unlocks creation of battlefield spells for revealing or concealing troop movements.

We had Sigmar's help, as much as it would irk Mathilde to admit. It was literally a miracle.

Anyway, I'm not saying we didn't do make any contribution magically, I'm just saying that using Mathilde's situation in Sylvania as an example of what your normal journeyman can do isn't the best idea. We were already at Magister rank magic at the time, whereas a normal journeyman can barely cast Burning Shadows. Plus, Mathilde is an omni-competent warrior. She has way more skills than an ordinary mage would have had.

Well, according to Drachenfels novel, Prince Luitpold (Karl Franz's son) was born in 2493 (he is twelve in 2505). That would mean that if unborn son in 2478 is Karl Franz, he would become a father when he is only 14-15. While not impossible, I find it somewhat hard to believe.

Tally has drastically shifted since last count. Actions seem on lock, but with how it changed last time, it could yet change.

That's true but don't expect other mages to have no skills of import. Amber mages should be pretty good in a scrap, stealth and tracking, while gold ones can be skilled at engineering, enchantment, stewardship and academia.

Yeah, after we got into Sylvania having literally no idea about what we're going against. Lack of intel was our fault (luckily for us the other side was at least as blind as we were) and we learned the lesson.

Personally, I don't want to sideline Roswita and become de facto ruler of Stirland. Therefore, I don't want to start a fight where that's our only winning outcome. Therefore, I don't want to go back to the Empire as the leader of a hard bitten, glorious, private army of Stirlanders that the Countess didn't give us. Therefore, I don't want to make that our win condition for this expedition. Therefore, I don't want command of the Stirland contingent.

Also, if we're commanding the Stirlanders we won't be doing any scouting, nor much magic, nor enough intrigue; we'll be trying to run a small army without an existing command structure or organisation.

OTOH, bossing journeymen about is the best perk of being a magister.
