Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Quick question out of curiosity, how much if at all are any of you creeped out by letting a child soldier do invasive surgery that replaces her body parts with machines when her body is not even done with puberty?

Well... For one, she's not doing it to herself, she's choosing to have it done?

And for two, the whole 'not done with puberty yet' thing has been addressed by our illustrious QM on something like 3 separate occasions now and needs to be dropped.

But to answer your question, no? It's her choice, not like anyone is forcing her into it...

Not at all. If she was mine I'd be proud of her for embracing potential and rising above the limitations of injury and the shackles of nature.

Ours are the stars and the endless black, not merely this tiny sphere of earth and stone. This is how we get there.

Hey guys! How about we actually take the improvements of the heavy option for Taytay, she is a squishy mage even with Extinction Knight on quick draw.

You can put hardlight weapons in light, medium, OR heavy arms. I explicitly said that in the update.

Each projector only has one shape. If you want to give Vista a lightsaber and an energy shield, that's two different projectors, and both of them count against her weapon total (which is 4 for light/medium and 3 plus superstrength for heavy).
My concern was that (as I read the scene) you had said that a light arm wouldn't be able to put in anything of significant power, so to get a projector with a proper laser sword and other tools I may need to vote for Medium or heavy arms.

I'm thinking Medium with:
-Beam Shield
-Beam Longsword for opponents getting too close or too difficult to warp away. Hardlight Blade can shut down to escape grip if grabbed by a stronger opponent or otherwise pinned.
-Closest-Thing-To-A-Flamethrower Blaster for crowd control
-Closest-Thing-To-A-Railgun Rifle for sniping
-All the armor. Why would we not?
Ummm. Actually...

We don't nead a Beam Longsword for Vista.
Think about it - we have Beam Shield, aka Disc of Doom with slicing edges. And apparently Vista can shapechange it all by herself, too.

Though I am also in favor of Medium.

Considering she is
1. Already a child soldier, with no input from us
2. Has been one for many years now
3. Has no intention of changing this status
4. Already been grieviously injured in the line of duty
4b. This upgrade is intended to help protect against future risks like that
5. Past puberty and fully grown, as already addressed by Word of QM

Maaaaybe you should actually bother to check the details of the character BEFORE you make vicious accusations on other forumn goers?

Meanwhile... Are you creeped out by blood transfusions or organ transplants in children, when its decided by their parents? How about if it prevented them from dying to curable disease but required a machine lung or a computer implant to their brain? How about if it 'merely' added decades to their lifespan, or provided drastic quality of life improvements (say, enhanced memory and more efficient or adaptable sleep patterns) ?

So no, not the least bit creeped out ^_^. If anything I'm trying to judge if I have any legitimate rational basis (and not just an intuitive preference for experiences I can pattern-match to imagine well, over those that seem more alien) for voting Medium instead of Heavy.

Literally not at all - not only is she past puberty, as mentioned above, but even if she wasn't, it's just a matter of measuring relative growth of the other bits and upscaling them to match.

On a completely different note, I've had an idea - if we get four slots to stick things in, can we get two Hard Light generators, a computer of some sort and an automated bit of kit to retool what the Hard Light generators throw out? Hell, could even have a word with Armsy and see if we can combine his absurd miniaturisation tech with mechashift tech to fit a load of Hard Light generators in for different things. Basically, seeing as how people seem a little upset that Vista's not turning into the White Devil of Earth Bet, I want to give her a modular and reconfigurable system that can theoretically replicate damn near anything, so that she can actually have pseudo-magic. Hard Light bullets, Hard Light spears + space warping, Hard Light shields, that kind of thing. Hell, build the kit internally Jensen-tier and externally unobtrusive so people don't know, then BAM! Giant-ass glowing orange spear from out of nowhere! Oh, and also some form of non-lethal taser thingumy or containment foam sprayer or something, to appease the Youth Guard about the god-killing child soldier thing.

It's not slots on the arm so much as how much power the mana generator puts out.

There might be some physical limits to the number of bells and whistles that could be crammed into one arm, but Power is the main limiting factor at the moment. (Well, aside from Tim's build slots)

We should really look at getting Tim a couple of familars soon, either for helping him build stuff, or to help keep him safe. (Preferably both)

That's a fair point, but teaming up with Armsy and making dual- or quad-core reactors would be plausible, would it not? Add in a more reasonable version that wouldn't mean Vista isn't having to eat three times her weight in sugar every day just to get enough calories to fuel the thing, maybe a massive-ass capacitor bank stored in a pocket dimension or compressed right down with either space warping or Arms-tech, and you've got yourself a potential to cram SO many Hard Light generators in there.

Maybe a bunch of implanted mana batteries and a charging port. But that's stepping deeper into transhumanism, so might not fly unless we vote up Heavy rather than Medium.
But I plan to vote Heavy anyway since it opens up so many options.

Though I'm pretty sure Tinkers can't really help when it comes to magitech, even Dragon couldn't make heads nor tails of magic as I recall.

We have a thing specifically for working with/around Tinkers, so whilst they might not be able to crib our notes, we most certainly can crib theirs. Also, transhumanism is always the way to go - let me replace this useless meat with some decent quality cybernetics, so I can finally see without these stupid eye-filters. That or just get me a new body that I can swap my mind into, either/or.

EDIT: We do not yet have the thing for robbing off with Tinkertech principles, but we could get it. Soon™

Once again, here are your options for Vista's shiny new combat arm. Keep in mind that you are not BUILDING it just yet. Vista is picking which concept design she prefers based on her transhumanist leanings or lack thereof.

[ ] No combat arm – Vista will use her original prosthetic for combat due to its denser skeleton.
[ ] Light combat arm – No armor plating, though soft armor is an option. Weapons are limited to hardlight projections and lasers.
[ ] Medium combat arm – Armor plating is limited to the hand and forearm as well as over the shoulder. Enhanced strength and mechashift weapons are available in the hand only. Energy weapons can be wherever. Build time will include ONE TIME SLOT for surgery.
[ ] Heavy combat arm – Armor plating over the entire arm and shoulder. Enhanced strength, mechashift weapons, and energy weapons can be placed anywhere on the arm. Build time will include ONE TIME SLOT for surgery, and this arm will have one fewer weapon than the others would.

Honestly, if this is in terms of Vista's mentality, I think she'd go for the whole shebang. It fits her.

she is more of a harrying and battlefield control cape than a standup combat one. lets play to her strengths.
