[X] "If you've no desire to take this town intact, Deathfang is only a horn's blow away."

If everybody is burned to ashes Necromancers will have a much harder time raising an army of the dead.

@BoneyM Is something like this acceptable, or manageable? Or is this merely more micro-management?
Another points to the portion of the map containing most of the townsfolk.
[X] "The reason pushing through here would be so risky is that we can't tell which are civilians and which are enemies. If we treated them all as enemies..."
-[X] "Our enemy has a spell they can plant within people. Once triggered, it gives them unholy strength and endurance, but only for a while and it is lethal. These berserkers are likely marked by it. Gather the townsfolk and march them by under the eyes of our gathered Wizards. We can pick out the infiltrators.

The vote assumes that Weber can feel the spell from some distance, as long as she can get eyes on, as well as the Death Wizards we have invited. It's Dhar inside people. But I'm not actually sure how easy it is to detect, if you know what you are looking for.

You know visually inspecting people like that would take days while they march past wizards...while the undead keep coming.

Jeez, I'm glad the halflings are on our side. They're pretty damn brutal despite all the affable cheer aren't they?

When you are their size, fight dirty. Or not at all

This would be a plan for managing the townsfolk after capturing the town intact. Trying to perform it during a battle would be ill-advised.

On one hand necromancers can counter spell on the other we are talking about the Patriarch of a College so this will probably work. It might cost invaluable mages, but we do have a dragon on hand for the castle itself...
We need to win the war before the peace. Lose the battle mages or too many soldiers and the Castle won't be possible.

[x] "We have the high ground. We have artillery. We level the town hall, and any other pockets of resistance, and the infantry pushes through the rubble."

While razing the town entirely would be bad for actually reclaiming "Eastern Stirland", we do need to conserve our troops for the castle.

the whole reason we were here was to take the town as a base.

How about something like this @BoneyM ?
[X] "We have the high ground. We have artillery. We level the town hall, and any other strongpoints, and the infantry with wizard support can clear the rest."

IE: Hit places where we think there are wizards with arty, or any place we discover the undead reinforcements to be pouring out of, and clear the mindless undead already present in town with infantry and battle wizards.

I'm making a distinction between any resistance, and major resistance. IE the plan would be the Battle Wizard one, except we tell arty to bomb the Town Hall now, and if the Wizards run into any necromancers or fortifications outside of that, they hold instead of pushing, call them in, and arty levels the area.

Or was that the arty plan all along, and I'm just still micro-managing?

Deathfang and the Wizards are needed for the castle. Save their stamina for that.

We got plenty of ammo yet though.
Er the only reason Deathfang literally can't solo everything in the castle is some of the inhabitants are presumably not insane enough to face an adult dragon in open combat like there is a reason Anton managing to hire Asarnil transformed the campaign from a once a generation purge of the haunted hills into an implicit "if we have an intact army by the time the haunted hills are purged we're burning down the castle down with dragon fire, because there is only one mercenary in the old world who has a dragon".
We need to win the war before the peace. Lose the battle mages or too many soldiers and the Castle won't be possible.
A Dragon is one hell of a force multiplier for clearing out a castle on top of a massive cliff, and that location alongside the rulers usually being vampires who need to eat far less is why it has always been impossible to take conventionally. Admittedly the soldiers will be needed for clearing out all the secret passages, and whatever else lives within the dungeons, but the castle itself isn't designed to counter a dragon.

We just need enough space to hold our troops and supplies for the Castle Invasion. Everything else which takes too many bodies to capture can shower in artillery.

We can feel the Dhar in the bound spells inside the civilians, can't we? I'm assuming the town doesn't have more than a couple thousand souls within it. Can't we have the wizards scan the civilians in small groups for the landmines and have the swordsmen bring them down?

Something like,
[X] Level the obvious pockets of resistance with guns and magic. If need be, the cavalry can remount and make another charge while the strain on the front line is lightened. The civilians stay penned up until Weber and the other wizards can check them for the Elector-Countess's tampering.
What shame?

We went above and beyond the fucking call of duty to help him. He died because everyone else dropped the ball.
We didn't heal him either~

I think people are seriously ignoring the negative consequences of razing the town to the ground, especially with all the actually-innocent civilians and our own troops in there. Also, you know there will be enemies who are capable of harming a dragon, either in the town or the castle. We'd be best saving our dragon deployment for where we really need it instead of risking having Deathfang injured by one of the lesser necromancers in the town.

Probably micro-managing. Also remember that communication is abysmal due to the technology available and the NOISE of cannons. The time lag alone will render this pointless.

That is for after. Too dangerous to do in the midst of battle.

Also we had no reason to be healing anyone anyway. What we did was pray for a literal divine intervention.

But we did have the option to try to heal him.
[ ] Dhar lies thick in the air. You just need a little. Just enough to give a Grey Wizard the power to heal...
Who knows, maybe it would've been enough...

(It wouldn't, those dice meant he was doomed no matter what, but Mathilde has no way of knowing that)

It's not like the Battle Wizards are going to get upset and leave in a huff if they're not explicitly mentioned in a plan. Assume that the generals will use every resource available to them without needing explicit orders to do so. And as TimEd says, communication is a factor - artillery support is going to be reserved for serious resistance anyway since runners need to be sent to the walls to communicate targets.

That's a bold assumption. The town of Drakenhof is the most populous in all of Sylvania, and would make the top five in all of Stirland if it wasn't effectively independent.

LOL

Van Hal has the literal book detailing what hapens to those aho use Dhar. Even the 'experts'. He'd probably throw himself into the Knights of Mor.

So, too much collateral will give them another army to throw at us, right.
And give our army the defensive staging ground for the assault to the Castle (hopefully).

So should we assume each vote we're given (cavalry, wizards, guns, fire arrows, dragons) is, like, the main thrust of the plan and the generals will also make use of all other options but in a lesser capacity?

I am realy unease about bombardment, on one hand this place is steping stone and defensive foward base, destroying every defensible building goes counter to that, and Veekie pointed out irreplaceale records may be lost and this brings me back to the beggining of the ques were Stirland couldn't function whitout a lack of records and we will have to handle the whole of Sylvania after all this.
We may be full of grief and wanting to be done with this city, bu we should still keep in mind there are good reason why we came to take it instead of just bonanding from affar to start with, and in forgetting that we may risk the whole war against Sylvania.

No, you shouldn't assume that. The generals will make use of all of the resources available to them to perform the plan that wins the vote. For example, the battle-wizards and dismounted knights are currently supporting the infantry; if the chosen plan does not call for them to be elsewhere, they will remain supporting the infantry. If you choose to burn the town to the ground one way or the other, then the infantry (and knights, and wizards) will pull out of the town beforehand and reinforce the picket.
