Judgement of Gold and Ash
Seventeenth Day of the First Month 293 AC
"I will be short while weapons are still in hand. I am tired of killing but neither unready nor unwilling to do so at need, Ser," you offer the title ungrudgingly, for after all did you not recognize Ser Gerold's claim to it on the same grounds? As soft insistent ringing fills the still air as you draw out Dark Sister. "Your captain is not here, nor his famed stolen blade, but here its sister shines ready to drink the blood of foes and traitors. So tell me then, are you such?"
"What surety do you offer?" the knight calls back, his eyes widening at the sight of Dark Sister. Given its history you imagine it might have a certain frightful reputation among the Golden Company.
"Lay down your arms so that I may take the measure of the men who led so many to folly under the grasping vice-grip of dark gods and demons. Mayhaps you think me little better, but I am still a
man, and you can trust the judgement of a mortal lord more than you can the wrath of evil masters for perceived failures of their slaves. Make no mistake
that is what the Dark Lady you served viewed you as: little better than cattle to be discarded to the hungering awoken dead who yet slumber beneath us thanks to my company's intervention."
"Lies!" someone shouts from the window, followed by other calls, mostly shouting him down you are glad to hear.
You ignore the byplay and address the 'official' delegation: "Whatever crimes I uncover, know that my judgement will be swifter and more merciful than that of She of Many Colors and her servants."
Silence reigns once more, heavy with things unsaid and the fears of cornered men.
Time to give them one more push... "We are not unmerciful, nor are we predisposed to wasting talented men. Those deemed worthy of amnesty will be offered a place in our service among the newly formed Legion. Those who refuse will be allowed to keep their personal belongings, but nothing else, and will need to arrange their own transport back to the lands of Ombar or other civilized lands."
You half-expect to hear screams and the clash of steel as the sellswords turn on each other, perhaps even bolts cast out, however it seems the Golden Company is above such treachery even now.
With a sigh Ser Andrew hands you his sword, the gilding on the hilt covering well-balanced steel.

"...for your crimes I count you Jorn Flowers unworthy to bear the legion's steel, but not deserving of death either. Go forth where you will," you say, your voice loud and carrying in spite of the tiredness you feel, more of the spirit than the flesh. The litany of complicity and complacency entwined make it hard to judge indeed where the the sword must fall, but by all the gods that may be listening you will not lay down capricious or over-swift judgement, not even on your erstwhile foes, especially on them.
The sound of the heavy doors opening is welcome indeed, all the more so for seeing Dany and Ser Richard safe and sound. "The shrine's was abandoned and now it's sundered for good," your sister says with a satisfied, almost triumphant expression.
Unfortunately the task is far from done, indeed it takes up the entire day to pass judgement of less then half of the men before you, though thankfully by the end of it you have enough would-be legionaries that you can rest relatively easily that they will guard their former comrades overnight.

"What do you think we should do with this?" Lya asks holding up the small bag that holds the Smith's ashes. The two of you have withdrawn for the night, yet neither of you is quite ready to give in to slumber.
"I was thinking of making a map to divine any secrets he may have known," you answer idly.
"That seems a... waste," she says slowly, uncertainly. "He called no fiends and offered no sacrifice of slaves and he was knowledgeable. I'd like to speak with him if I had the chance."
What do you answer?
[] Agree, keep the ashes for possible reincarnation
[] Present a counter-argument
-[] Write in
OOC: Lya is not very firm in her position here, so if you want to press it should be reasonably easy.
