[X] Ask to be escorted to the serjeant. Although we cannot share the contents of the message, it is much too urgent to wait until morning. Ser Mudd will simply have to content himself with doing his duty, even in the wee hours of the night. Ask one of the men to escort you to the serjeant's location. We're willing to take whatever heat comes their way for waking him.
-[X] Bluff the sellswords, expessing our extreme discomfort with magic and our desire to be done with this task so that we can get back to deal with normal people, not enchanters and conjurers. Ask if there are any of those types about, as you would rather avoid them if at all possible.
-[X] If pressed on the contents of the message, tell them we have been ensorcelled in some manner, so as to only reveal the information when we hear a passphrase which we don't know. Act uncomfortable with this state of affairs, and eager to pass on the message so that we can be free of the magic. Hopefully Serjeant Mudd will be able to lead us to someone able to receive the message.
-[X] Trust Dany, Lya, and Aradia to trail us, using stealth and magic.

Random thought:
We have a dracolich without a proper dragon body, we have a dead aspect of Tiamat and we have Lya.
Am I the only one who sees something great coming out of it, even if it's an absolutely and vividly horrible idea?

I have a Lich. A have a God-corpse. Boom! Badass Lich-corpse!

Also, there's Yss to help out getting Amrelath reborn.
His body is changing into his regular one. Every draconic body he possesses will look and function like a Young Adult (or maybe Juvenile?) Red Dracolich within 2d4 days.
That's what the little Proto-Dracolich text is about.

So I was thinking about what class would suit the "generalist" arcane specialist in the Night's Watch, if Alliser came to learn and then pass on his class to his recruits. Given I really just can't picture him having the patience to make all of his lessons sitting by candle light and reading dusty tomes, obviously it'll be a martial class.

Now I was thinking, Duskblade seems obvious, right? The average NW brother who fights regularly is actually more likely to gain at least a couple levels above 5, and the very best might go beyond that, so a Duskblade could provide a bit of unusual expertise in any ranging party. There's also the obvious re-tooled Ranger, though it's so underwhelming as a class that it might be better if it became a minority in the Watch than the default. A regular crow can scout just as well, right? Better to have some druids, which might even be viable. There's a large grove of weirwoods not far from Castle Black. Maybe someone with First Men ancestry has the potential? Something worth exploring.

But back to Thorne!

We could go Duskblade, but then we're not precisely trying to go full-optimization here, and the idea of a hilariously inspirational Alliser of all people fighting at the front when the Others march and inspiring his fellows--that just tickles me pink. So you know what class I'm talking about.

A Paladin.

That's just a crazy idea, mind you. Duskblade would obviously be more useful. But y'know, thematically, I don't see Thorne being more than a weak spellcaster in the first place.

Actually, since we know the wall can grant powers on its own, and the night brothers already have their own knowledge and skills, i was hoping they would get a custom prc.

Would be neat, though the benefit of having a class that is not dependent on the Wall granting powers is that, at least for now, the typical fellow who swears the NW vows... is not doing so without being under duress. So I imagine the people who might be able to benefit from such a PrC have to actually genuinely keep to their vows. No whores, no aspirations to right the wrongs done to them and theirs in the South, unlikely to abandon their posts, etc.

That and some straight up wizard spellcasters might be invaluable. It would be highly ironic if they had mid-level wizard crows within a decade. "Can warp reality... is trapped guarding a frozen wasteland".

The Almighty Janitor personified!

Although that might be a little problematic. A wizard with fifth level spells could just teleport away from their post.

If the power is linked to the Wall he might want to rethink that.

Part MDCCLXV: A Delver's Tale
A Delver's Tale

Seventeenth Day of the First Month 293 AC

The ruse shan't last for long, but then you hardly need it. So you remain standing shuffling your feet uncomfortably you say, "Well now, I won't often say no to strongwine, but I'd really rather just be done with all this magic shit." You glance around as if wary of continuing. "Message's really important, so bloody important that it sticks in my throat to say it least I get the word and I don't know what the damn word even is."

That gets you sympathetic looks all around. One of the sellswords even mutters: "Fucking wizards," under his breath. It seems your foes were less concerned with making sorcery more acceptable or liked by the common man than you are. Fear makes quick leverage brittle also.

"Say, are there any more of those sorts up here? I'd rather stay out of their way if I can," you ask Ser Andrew as the man comes out to lead you.

"Shit, but you are in the wrong company if you want to stay away from wizards," the Golden Company Knight says, shaking his head as he motions you to follow down one of the many ruined paths of the city. "There's the dragon priestess an' her beasties, the shadow bitch... " Seeing your raised eyebrow he explains, "She used to send monsters after us sometimes 'to keep us ready for anything'... til the Fat Man made her stop somehow. There's enough shit in these ruins without any of that."

"What manner of monsters?" you ask, giving the darkness all about you even more suspicious looks.

The knight describes a menagerie of horrors, though it is rather hard to pick out one from the other out of the vague and you suspect exaggerated descriptions. Spirits of sickness and malice hunted the ruins before the Delvers as this particular group of sellswords called themselves, arrived. The deeper chamber held all sorts of misshapen monstrosities as well as rogue servitors some of whom were slain and others pressed into service, not by either of the priests of the Mother of Wyrms but by a man who had been with the Golden Company years before that, a Pentoshi-born wizard Illyrio attracted to his side by the promise of exploring the ruins of the east.

"Don't rightly know his name, though, just calls himself the Smith and always keeps his face covered and his voice muffled, he's not a bad sort betides that weirdness... I guess all wizards have to be touched in the head somehow," your guide laughs.

"He's hiding," Dany hisses in your ear, her thoughts obviously following the same path as yours. One known by neither sight or sound, not even by his name would be hellishly difficult to divine the whereabouts of even by those who met him.

"Has he taken any apprentices?" you ask, pushing your luck a bit, though hopefully the knight would not be suspicious of his new 'friend.'

"Six in all, two of 'em are still in the city somewhere, poking at the ruins, rest of 'em are out east of course," comes the reply.

Though you would dearly wish to know where 'out east' is you suspect it would break your already threadbare disguise and so you stay silent on the matter. "Any more of those iron giants about?" you ask instead.

"Two more... those ones got bows, and whatever's down the Hole of course," Ser Andrew answers. Before you can ask another question, you come to what must have once been the servant quarters of a fallen Sarnori manse. Though naught but rubble and the odd forlorn column survives of that, the annex has stood the test of time remarkably intact.

The knight knocks on the door in what must be a prearranged pattern: Loud twice a long pause then more softly thrice.

What do you do?

OOC: Lya has been following invisibly of course.

Well, shit.
Some of them will undoubtedly get to get away.
Now we have to prioritise...
*Sulks*

Knew it, his own pet wizard. We need to find that man and kill him before he becomes too dangerous. This is the guy who benefited from Lya's stolen notes.

Well. Glad to see we can be the inciting incident of some other adventurers campaign.

Other groups need shady amoral spell casters too right?

Smith is the main threat. He's a massive force multiplier that we can't allow to exist, and we can't track him down easily later.

No worries, we've already got our priorities down.

1. Tiamat Cleric
2. Illyrio
3. Pentoshi Wizard
4. Pentoshi Wizard Apprentice 1
5. Pentoshi Wizard Apprentice 2
6. The Blackfyre
7. Pentoshi Wizard Apprentices 3, 4, 5, & 6

Hunt down the ones in our grasp first. The rest can follow given a bit of time and luck when we find them. I'm hoping since they're apprentices that they don't actually have Teleport or anything of the sort, so they can't run away. It's the cleric and the full wizard we need to be afraid of flushing out--and them taking Illyrio with them.

If nothing else their loot is bound to be good given that they've been non-stop dungeon delving. There's like nine ruined cities not including Vaes Dothrak that are east of Sallosh. They've been busy.

This. That man needs to die.

Arguably Pentosi wizard is higher priority than Illyrio, otherwise agree.
