I think the mark-up is because the seller does not really want to sell them to us in the first place, and is also trying to make up the funds from the contract that fell through by fleecing us guilt free.

We are filthy foreigners, after all. Fleecing outside traders is basically the thing you do in Not!Middle-Eastern bazaars.
On the other hand, this is silver-tongued Viserys doing the buying. It shouldn't be that overpriced, even if they guy doesn't want to sell.

They are incredibly overpriced, and if we could bring that down it could be great, but the thing with the horses is that we already have a pretty amazing infrastructure to breed hybrids. Our Dothraki already have the best steeds in the mortal world, we just need to put the stallion out to stud among the normal mares.

Seriously though, they're way too overpriced.
Sorry, twice an hippogriff.

Still, 9000 GP per pony, at their home plane? Yikes.

A griffon egg goes for 3500 GP, a young griffon for 7000.

Admitely, the horses are CR6, vs CR4 of the Griffons and have quite the nice stats, but still. Damn.

We should prepare our wallets for PoA.

You know, we can probably make acid with spells instead of the complicated magical giant bug.

We discussed it when talking about stone barrels filled with the stuff then Shrunk Itemed and thrown as grenades that expand

I still get the feeling that we're overlooking something in regard to the Ceru, there has to be a reason we got them on a 96. DP wouldn't pull a big ol' meh on a 96, would he?

Since the Dothraki came up, maybe we should buy 3 stallions instead? They could stud a whole lot of horses and give us much quicker results then the lone Gorgon, since we can directly cross F1 hybrids without causing inbreeding.

Honestly, even with that mystery I'm just no longer interested. I want to save some of our pocket money for the precious metals.

@Azel, no, keep it at one stallion and two mares. A stallion can stud a bunch of mares just fine, it won't need help. And I want a steady supply of the purebreds.

The point is that with 3 stallions, we can produce 94% pure breeds in 3 generations. And a whole damn lot of them.

We should keep in mind that the pregnancy of a horse needs roughly 340 days. So nearly a year.
Unless we perform !!SCIENCE!! on it or make us a demi-plane with highly morphic time, breeding is really not worth it at all.

Changing my vote to 3 stallions, since we can have them stud and use them as mounts. We won't get useful results out of a breeding program in a useful timeframe anyway.

Edit: Adjusted plan.
[X] Plan Acid And Horses
-[X] 2x Ankheg (Male, Female) - 360 SC
-[X] 3x Istaheq (3x Male) - 2700 SC
-[X] Total Cost: 3060 SC

since most of the thread found the Ceru underwhelming, maybe we can convince DP to offer us a different creature instead? or well, in addition too since i dont want to retcon the update.

I'm afraid that in horses the best dominant traits are carried by the mare though, not the stallions. See mule vs. hinny. Unless magical mounts have a trait that means "best traits breed true," this plan won't work as you want it.

Presumably the offspring will be fertile though, so at least there is that. But even that is far from a guarantee, given that real life horse+whatever hybrids are all sterile.

Ya'll are nuts...

Every scepter is worth 2 IM and ya'll are planning to waste enough of them to equip an entire adventuring party in enchanted gear on some nice horses and practically useless Ankhegs. Yes, the horses are nice enough, but they are superfluous to our needs. We Teleport, fly, or Phantom Steed wherever we go, and anyone we value enough to let ride these horses would be better off equipped in the gear the money spent on the horses could buy.

The Ceru, on the other hand, are great. Not because they can be Familiars, but because they are already sentient (much smarter than the average human, and most of our non-Intelligence based mages) Neutral Good beings with useful abilities. The luck thing is nice, but I'm more concerned with their constant Detect Magic. That is a great ability for a gate guard to have. I bet they can learn magic, too. If we have a breeding pair, we could start a small population of them in SD.

[X] Plan Freedom For the Cute Little Blue Elephant Creatures
-[X] 2x Ceru - 1180 SC

Never mind. All of these are a waste. We haven't seen the magic shops yet, the smiths, the metal wholesalers, etc. These animals are a huge expenditure, and a wasteful one at that.

[X] Buy nothing.

get one female horse, and 2 males? so we can breed pure stallions for our officers, and send a stallion to our dothraki so we can get a quick herd of hybrids?

the fish abomination sounds reasonable, but i still kinda want a horse to gift to the dothraki khal. (and pick up our share of his no doubt substantial loot by now)

[X] Goldfish

You convinced me.

Changed my mind. My vote is not to waste any of our money here.

The Ceru are neat, but I don't want to spend what amounts to 2360 IM for them. That is A LOT of crafting materials we could buy, or pre-enchanted magic items, or Adamantine, etc.
