They should by default carry a couple of javelins already.I'm adding the spear bit, not the mule bit. The mule bit is already there

I would strongly advocate halberds, since getting enough high-quality steel is a non-issue for us and they are the most versatile option. Furthermore, you can have the third row shoulder their shields and let them hack away at the enemy while the two rows in front of them hold the line.
I think the intention was to stop cavalry attacks without mage support (as we've got a lot more legionnaires than mages).
Yeah, 6000 legion soldiers for 30,000 a month? Sounds insane, even more so for our magical logistics. 2 IM per month and 1 for supply seems more reasonable.
An opportunity! Should probably mention this to the Night's Watch and see if we can't grow any trees here. It'll get us goodwill, be fairly effective while being good PR for us and the old gods and push back any more unwholesome rumors of sacrifice. (There's a difference between sacrifice to the old gods and demons/devils/unwholesome things. )Castle Black, like Eastwatch, is in truth no castle. Rather it is a scattering of towers, keeps, even a sept, but no Heart Tree. Of all the places for one to be missing... You idly wonder how the Black Brothers would have reacted to you dragging some monster of the north thrashing behind you to remedy that lack.
Then they brace their shields and greet their teeth. A charging knight has, at best, something like +11 attack bonus.I think the intention was to stop cavalry attacks without mage support (as we've got a lot more legionnaires than mages).
Ah, diplomancing was already in effect.
Anyway, here's roughly everything we have to do. My computer's about to die, so whoever makes a plan please make sure you get to all of this stuff.
1. Introduce ourselves as Viserys Targaryen, King in the Stepstones.
2. Let the Night's Watch gawk over the Children of the Forest.
3. Tell the Night's Watch that we're well aware of the rising threats Beyond the Wall and have no intention to leave them without aid. Also confirm any fears that they might have--the Long Night is coming.
4. Dany & any other party members we teleport to the Wall hand out magical healing for free.
5. We brief the Night's Watch on everything we currently know about the Others--that the Wall can hold them back through the might of its magic, that the Others can be slain with dragonglass and dragonsteel.
6. We give the Night's Watch lots of gold.
7. We promise them aid in weapons, armor, supplies, and manpower, and that we will bury them in dragonglass.
8. We speak with Aemon, have our family reunion, copy their library as much as we can.
9. We give them a diluted version of our legendary map--geographically accurate, but without the magical ruins marked or the rewards and enemies therein.
10. We bring up the matter of the giants, the wildlings, and the bear spirit. Bottomline, the giants and wildlings need to be somewhere south of the Wall before the Long Night. We can handle the details on that end.

Until you are done with the Lord Commander, though the scenes with Aemon will probably include some of that as she will take the opportunity to ask questions again. I'm spacing them out as she becomes less frantic in just wanting to know everything quickly (regardless of whether or not she understands).
- Perhaps Maelor & whomever is free, together with the wizard NPC can go through the library with Aemon...
Maelor does not even speak Westerosi Common, much less read it and the same goes for your wizards unfortunately.
