One of the reasons I really like fanfiction is for these moments where comicbook morality crash headlong into real world situations. There are a lot of arguments that can be made about the morals and ethics of the situation.

So, on a slightly different note, lets have a look at the legality and politics of the problem. The legality is a really grey area. That sort of thing is the realm of politics more than law. Bialya could sue for extradition, declare war or prevail upon the international community to impose sanctions or other penalties. The first is a joke, the second would end with Adom conquering Bialya but the third is where there could be issues.

Thankfully for Adom the UN is not a league of equals. A veto from any of the 5 nations that hold permanent seats on the security council would stop any action stronger than disapproving language. I assume this is why Paul is hitting up the interview circuit in the US. He also has a few favours and contacts in Great Britain, and a very minor favour with China. Fortunately nobody really cares about Bialya or Khandaq in a strategic sense (except, I would assume, for the Suez canal?). The big players will probably want to have a few people on the ground to make sure Adom isn't making an empire but that is easy enough to sort out by getting them to supply aid workers or handing out contracts for reconstruction work.

On top of this Bialya is not going to be able to successfully lobby anyone as they are going to be shanking each other to get the big seat.

Congratulations Orange Lantern and welcome to the wonderful world of international politics. Just make sure you don't mention you have unlimited gold that may crash the global commodities market.

"And then he tore her in half."
With Teth Adom on a very justified rampage, it dawns on me that many of OL's allies parallel Kyle Rayner's New Guardians team:

=OL: enlightened avarice.
=Zatanna: enlightened love.
=Alan Scott: enlightened will-power.
=Teth Adom: enlightened rage.

Abra Kadabra: enlightened fear. However, the whole reason Abra Kadabra went back in time was because future science had removed all mysteries and wonders from life. After OL gave him a book on elemental magic, Abra Kadabra seems to now live life to the fullest despite knowing that he's trapped in the era where "the Orangest Night" takes place, so he might represent enlightened hope.

OL: "Aren't you afraid of Orangest Night?"
Abra Kadabra: "All shall be well."

Other possibilities:
=Dana Dearden: enlightened compassion ; in canon overcame her obsessions and willingly sacrificed herself to protect Superman from a magical attack that would've killed him. In "With This Ring", OL apologizing for getting her fired threw Dana for a loop as she was planning to take revenge on him, and he went the extra mile and arranged for her to interview Justice League members.

Why Adom would allow his rage rule him, after months of studying the modern world.

Remember that Adom has anger issues on a good day; after finding out that his people have been massacred in a treacherous assault he was ENRAGED to a point words can barely describe it took Billy depowering and hitting him with a "What... just. What." for him to even consider negotiations rather than simply declaring war. After having the response to his olive branch be yet more treachery I suspect his thoughts can be summarised as:

"F**k it"

plus there's the blatant attempt at mind control (of a head of state at that). I personally consider myself far more stable than him and I can honestly say I would respond in the same way.

Darwin strikes again.

Maybe on this parallel people will finally learn not to poke metahumans who are way out of your weight class.

Never underestimate human stupidity.

When I was little, I watched a cartoon. Don't remember what it was called, but I do remember that the villains were this group of Ducks. I mean, always. Every episode they'd show up to be dicks to the heroes, fail, flee and then return next week. I asked my mother 'why is it always them, Mum?' and she said 'because children like repetition'.

I think.

It was a while ago.

Didn't make sense to me, even then. I mean, these Ducks were going seriously out of their way. Did they not have better things to do? Didn't they have lives? Didn't they see a pattern in their beatings? And was there really no one else in the whole who ever had a problem with the heroes?

And if that segment still doesn't work for you, look on the bright side: Grayven's back tomorrow!

Your mother lied, kids actually get bored easily. The reason it was always the ducks was due to animation costs.

Honestly, the fallout of this is going to be amazing. Its not that Teth just executed another countries ruler on live television (for good reason). Its that he brutally executed her by tearing her in half on live television. The sheer amount of gore and shock value will keep the debate on this going for years regarding Teth.

Queen Bee may not have even intended to hit the superheroes with a mind whammy. She was at a press conference, which implies more than just three people in the audience, and if even a small number of her close supporters were present she'd have cause to reinforce their loyalty given Adom's list probably includes interplanetary weapons trafficking, trying to start several wars, and working with Klarion. Which is still /stupid/, but not as obviously so.

That said, if Orange Lantern was present, I'm kinda surprised he couldn't put her together again, at least if all Teth Adom did was rip her in half. Especially if not vertically.

That sounds like the sort of answer Dad would have given.

Would it help if the line was 'ripped her head off'? I though it would be obvious that she was dead but quite a few people have questioned it.

It would fix the problem of thinking that being torn in half just means your legs and part of your torso weren't connected anymore, but you'll still get people who think she could be kept alive after decapitation. Something about just needing to keep the brain alive. Though probably fewer people will be confused in that case.

'And then he tore her apart' might work, but I can already see people thinking that meant that he did so verbally.

"The Lords of Order == Stasis" thing presupposes the ability of a Lord or Lords actually achieving an optimal universe-state from their point of view, which sounds deeply implausible, given that time exists and universes are so big. I mean, there are a lot of philosophies and organizing principles that lead to contradiction or horrifying side effects given infinite power or total control of all matter, but in practice that kind of objection isn't very useful.

Lords of Order define themselves in opposition to Chaos, because that's the state of the world today, and they are in practice, opposed by very real Lords of Chaos. But if the universe were far more orderly, with no Chaosians around, who's to say their role would not change? Rebels are only rebels until they win in their home country, they rarely go on to destroying all the governments in the world.

At least at one time, the lords of order and chaos were part of the natural lifespan of the universe-

The universe is made, while it's fresh and new, Order is ascendant.

Then Chaos makes inroads.

Then Chaos consumes the universe, so universe goes kaput.

Then another universe gets made, in which Order is once again ascendant, rinse repeat ad infinitum.

So Chaos always wins, but then then the pieces get put right back where they belong on the chess board.

So order doesn't fight to win, but to prolong the game as much as possible.

I got all this from a who's who entry a long time ago, so DC might have retconned things several times since then.

And probably doesn't have too much relation with how things work in this fic, since lords of order and chaos are trumped up sorcerers and not collections of entities who have seen multiple universes come and go and trumped up sorcerers.

Anyway, Zoat, kind of disappointed that you've decided your Earth Prime has nothing fantastical, considering that Earth Prime in DC comics has Ultraa, Superboy Prime, a legion of superheroes, and Ultra Comics.

I was having fun picturing memesmith Paul. "Wait, our universe has inhabited planets ala the legion of superheroes?" "Uh huh." "Magic and souls are a thing there." "Uh huh." "You weren't kidnapped to another universe but where inducted into a shadowy cabal that can use thought to matter conversion techniques to make superhero tulpa?" "Uh huh" "I need a drink." "Some tea, coming right up."
