Don't forget the one in Washington, DC.

When I was working on Compassion's Light, and creating what I thought was a more sensible DC Universe, I had an SCU branch in most major cities. It just makes sense, and while Hawk and Dove was alright at best, I really liked how they had an SCU branch outside of Metropolis.

EDIT: Also, I like how ComicVine doesn't give Captain Arsala an Attractive Male power like they do for most comics characters. No love for the mullet?
Brian is awesome. "Why do so many metas advertise their powers in their names? If I had the power to walk through walls, I'd call myself Concrete-Man."

...god I miss Hawk and Dove.

About the part about steel not being bendy :
Actually, steel can bend pretty well. That's why it's better than cast-iron for making swords, and why it's used to make springs.

If you want to talk about stuff that don't bend well, glass so the stuff you want to talk about. Thing is terrible at it (and break when you try too hard to bend it).

Nope. You can bend glass if you heat it. That's how a lot of glass junk is made.

As in, the Magic of Consensus, and/or Oneiromancy, the manipulation and divination through use and understanding of Dreams?

At any rate, perhaps Paul should take up lucid dreaming as a practice.

I'm sure he'd enjoy the chance to copy down everything he can from a library that has every book that has ever been imagined--even if that book was never published or even written!

Books like:
Anyone - The Bestselling Romantic Spy Thriller I Used To Think About On The Bus That Would Sell A Billion Copies And Mean I'd Never Have to Work Again

Baum, Frank - Road Trips to the Emerald City

Bramah, Ernest - The Death of Kai Lung

Burroughs, Edgar Rice - Tarzan in Mars

Cabell, James Branch - Poictesme Babylon

Carroll, Lewis - Alice's Journey Behind the Moon

Chandler, Raymond - Love Can Be Murder

Chesterton, G. K. - The Man Who Was October

Dickens, Charles - The Return of Edwin Drood

Doyle, Arthur Conan - The Conscience of Sherlock Holmes

Gaiman, Neil - Rooms

Jones, Diana Wynne - The Last Witch But One

Kelly, Walt - Go-Go Pogo

Lewis, C.S. - The Emperor Over the Sea

Lofting, Hugh - Puddleby Papers

Lord Dunsany - The Dark God's Darlings

Marlowe, Christoper - The Merrie Comedy of the Redemption of Dr. Faustus

Mirrlees, Hope - Chanticleer's Dance

Matheson, Richard - In Times Like These

Moore, Alan - Xenon

Peake, Mervyn - The Fall of Gormenghast

Swift, Jonathan - The Last Voyage of Lemuel Gulliver

Tolkein, J. R.R. - The Lost Road

Various People - The Real Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Webster, John - A Banquet for the Wormes

White, T.H. - Arthur in Avalon

Wodehouse, P.G. - Psmith and Jeeves

Zelazny, Roger - Beyond Chaos
It's so nice that even you can't technically bring your power-ring into the Dreaming, one can still make use of it if it's still worn by it's wielder, recording EVERYTHING that's being experienced!

LUCIEN: At the very LEAST, Illustres, I would appreciate it if you were to write in the forms for a library card before copying down the entire contents of mortalkinds unwritten literature.

PAUL: Sure, sure... I wouldn't have to worry about copyright infringement for printing some of the books here, would I?

LUCIEN: I'm afraid I wouldn't know. Imagination has no limitations, you see. Something as arbitrary as mortal law matters very little to those of us who know and understand that all ideas and concepts belong to the MANY and the ALL, rather than the FEW and the ONE... At any rate, I'm sure Master Shakespeare would have greatly appreciated it if Prospero, The Magi Returnth were to be shared with the world.

So we have terms like shaman, elementalist, spiritualist, thaumaturge... what do we call a Dreaming/Dream Magic specialist?

Also could someone that knows about the Endless say a bit about how the Dreaming matters to the rest of reality outside of it's realm? All that comes to mind for me is "reality warping" in terms of how it effects stuff.
Skepsimancer, literally thought-wizard. That's basically what such a mage would be, turning ideas into reality and back.

Does anyone know why part 6 of this ark is marked as "guilded"? It only seems to be in the story only thread.

Dream is certainly already free, for all the reasons explained above. The question is whether he's still the OG Morpheus or he's already reincarnated as Daniel.

Perhaps in this particular story the orange light is inherently capitalist, but I wouldn't say self-interest (which the orange light represents) is inherently capitalist. Support for capitalism is only in line with your self-interest if you believe you'll be one of the elite; one reason capitalism is so popular is that it is very, VERY good at getting people to believe they will one day be rich themselves, and that they just haven't made it yet, when in reality it mostly comes down to luck and circumstance. And even then, capitalism is only inherently better from a self-interested perspective if you value being better off THAN others more than you value simply being better off.

And even ignoring DIRECT benefit to you, everyone else being better off still benefits you in a self-interested way, as it results in more people having the freedom to create art (some of which you will probably appreciate), advance science, etc, all of which you can benefit from even in absence of compassion.
You're generally correct, inasmuch as people who see themselves as victims tend to oppose capitalism while people who see themselves as agents tend to support it. And I was specifically talking about the orange light BECAUSE wielding it grants you the power necessary to be an agent, and when power is coupled with self-interest then we agree that the result is capitalist by default.

However, I think you might have an excessively narrow definition of capitalism. Capitalism is better from a self-interested perspective if you have the power to self-actualize your desires; comparison to other individuals isn't really relevant.

surprise Dorian (the alien not the fruit)
"I happened to mention that I ate a bunch of Dorians a while back, and some guys from the Legion who were in hearing gave me this horrified expression for some reason."
No, that's still horrifying. Dorians are from Greece. Durians are the stinky-but-tasty fruit.

Sort of? If I remember my DC lore correctly, gods, or rather godhoods, are born of the Dreaming, the realm of, well, Dream of the Endless. Which makes sense, seeing as they're concepts taken form. So Dream is the reason gods exist, and his power is the manifestation of stories, dreams, and legends. So, essentially, yes, belief in a mythos creates that mythos, by way of Dream.

No, only in Vertigo. In New Earth get their powers from the Source (via the Godwave), the same as mystics, green lanterns, kryptonians, and metahumans.

Greek Gods are older than the legends in mainstream DC.

Ares is Wonder Woman's grandfather, because Ares is Hippolyta's father, but...

Hippolyta is the reincarnation of the first woman murdered by a man. She was a cavewoman, which means she's about as old as Vandal Savage.

The Greek Gods saw fit to give her a new look when they reincarnated her by putting her soul in a clay statue. But oddly they didn't do the same for Magala, so she was stuck looking like a cavewoman.

Anyway, that discussion about the reliance on volunteer superheroes reminded me of a Robin storyline I remembered, so I did a little research.

There was a Robin storyline in which the US Army tried to recruit Robin.

The Veteran, an immortal and invulnerable supersoldier who, rumour has it, has fought in every war the US has ever engaged in, has the rank of General. He was given his own mandate to take care of supernatural and superhuman threats around the world, so he has a division or task force or whatever, including GI Robot.

The Veteran felt that Robin's training by Batman would make him an excellent member of his team. Robin asked why he wasn't pitching to Batman, and the Veteran explained "Oh, you're right, he would have very useful skills, I'm sure, but he's more of a Chief than an Indian, and since I've already got the job of giving orders, I'm hoping you'd be interested."

So, since the fruit is of a tree that wasn't grown from a seed, I'm assuming that they can't just grow more trees of the knowledge of good and evil using the fruit's seeds they have on hand.

Not sure what you'd do with more though. It would depend upon if Blaze is a special case demon wise or if they can just make Knowledge of Good and Evil Aerosol as an anti-demon weapon.

You would think someone as well versed in the mystic arts as Magala would have just done some magical cosmetic surgery to fix her look.

Feed at least one to Diana of Themyscira, and one to each Emotional Spectrum Entity.

That first bit seems iffy depending on what knowledge exactly the tree gives, and whatever additional effects it would have.

The second bit seems like it could be a great way to accidentally ruin the universe. Again, depending on what exactly the fruit does/how powerful it is.

Forest for the tree's.

He researched the garden, but he didn't really do any research on the Angel's or the Silver City. And that makes his continued complete and utter disregard for any possible consequences almost nonsensical. Because that disregard would be one thing if he thought, due to said research, that the group in question either wasn't able to or wasn't going to respond. But without that, well, it just becomes completely out of character for the guy who spent months planning out in meticulous detail how too take down Nabu.
The main difference is that while Nabu is constantly acting on the world, the Silver City appears to not be. Despite significant demonic activity. If it was chaos doing something like that Nabu and Co would be all over that. This suggests that either they're pretty hands off or they simply don't care.

Good data on the Silver City is pretty much non-existent and the SI's contacts don't have much information. If they do choose to make an issue out of it, there are two basic options. Firstly, their irritation is proportionate. In that case the SI simply pays the fine or does the penance. The second is that their irritation is disproportionate. In that case they're another bunch of supervillains, and he knows how to kill those.

Actually altering the natural form of a living thing -as opposed to just throwing up a glamour and calling it a day- is rather hard.

Actually, I've been looking for a small project like this. It should be relatively simple to write a script to look through a word document, find all instances of "human ", "demon ", "dog " or things like that and capitalize it. Don't think it would even require regex if it's simple enough. I'll look into it.

On a Word document, sure. The 'replace' function will do that. It's transferring that to posts here that would be a fag (UK).
