Timeline-wise, I'm rather surprised the stuff with Neron has already happened. I thought the Young Justice universe was a 'young' version of the DC universe where latest superhero generation of Superman and Batman and such have only been around a few years. I would have figured Blue Devil would be in the "stuck in mystically charged devil armor" portion of his timeline. Yet he claims to have been a real demon for "years".

Is there a reason his timeline is so advanced?
In here, the Justice League was formed in 2003, with the core league members starting around 1998/9. So, it's 12 years between their start, and now. Plenty of time for that to have happened.

So, from the long-term perspective, what has this project given Atlantean science? More knowledge of theurgy, definitely. Additional techniques and case studies for soul editing and xenografting of mystically active bodyparts.

Overall, so far Sephtian and his team has gotten the following pieces of arcane knowledge:
1) Soul carving from John Constantine, which allows them to carve magical arrays into one's soul and, in general, edit the soul's "shape".
2) Artificial soul technology, which should allow them to extend a normal soul beyond its boundaries / create an infinitely growing soul, as well as to ensoul objects
3) Transmigration techniques - "Lord of X" ascension ritual, emotional spectrum conversion techniques (both Love and Avarice ones), the effects and mechanisms by which Fruit of Knowledge works

They now also have access to Blue Devil. All this put together makes me think that ensouled symbiotic equipment might be the next big thing in magical technology of Atlantis.

"Still, as I told her at the start: if this does all go tits up…" I shrug. "Then we've killed a seven thousand year old monster, and learned a great deal about how Demon magic works. We still come out ahead."

Mr Cassidy glances at me sidelong. "Think maybe you wanna eat some of those seeds as well?"
Paul did say he considered eating some, it'd pretty neat if he actually did.

Sounds Apokoliptian.
Well, those are powerful civilizations, showing the worth of such technology.

Plus, Paul's artificial soul system, grafted upon a normal soul with Constantine's soul carving would probably turn someone into a new god, or a similar enough existence, I think. Maybe Atlanteans would need a bit more research, but I feel that in general they are close to that level already.

Paul sorta hinted about this before. Doesn't quite rate a 'called it' I think.

Though since I come from a parallel universe and therefore aren't descended from Adam and Eve, I suppose that I.. don't

That might explain a thing or two. ;)

I don't think 'World shattering kaboom' would be the result if he ate one. If he fed one to the Ophidian directly, that would be different.

Batman's been active for 13 years at this point, and the Society existed in the thirties. It isn't really 'young'.

Blue Devil didn't get his trident until he became a proper demon.
Legitimate question here, what would that actually do? OL's soul is made of Avarice and basically directly connected to the embodiment of said emotion so I can only imagine the result would be... unusual.

"I'm not taking it personally or anything, but how come you didn't talk to me earlier?"
Because despite appearances OL is not all knowing.

Learning the difference between good and evil would interfere with his knowledge of orange and blue.
Enlightenment might not be as convenient as Sanity but it gives a far better power boost.

On a side note if eating the fruit implants the capacity for guilt then it should cure most of Arkham.

I'm not so sure, see guilt requires the ability to acknowledge something you did or didn't do as being wrong. Most of Batman's rogues gallery does have lines in the sand, they're just not where society or batman want them to be. Their values are skewed, not missing.

Frankly if we're going to use the grow a conscience fruit on people I think government leaders and upper tier law enforcement/judiciaries would be the place to start.

Yeah only a few of them would get guilt from eating the fruit, those too insane to know right from wrong like Humpy Dumpy and Victor Zsasz.

Well done!
Also, good to see Paul mending fences with Aberrance.
Well, Cranius, anyway.

Her face is a rictus of misery, tears streaming down her face, finger claws tearing through her cheeks and into the palms of her hands and she presses them to her face.

"Wait, what's happening to her?"

"I'm not certain, but I'd guess that she just gained the capacity for guilt."
I suppose one reason Adam and Eve got kicked out of the garden for eating the forbidden fruit is that, (aside from disobeying the Almighty), is that if one has perfect knowledge of what is Good and Evil, then what's the point of the learning process that comes with Free Will?

Though another explanation might be that God, being a Buddhist, knows the obsession and attachment to material things, (first seen when Adam and Eve, now embarrassed about being naked, decided they needed clothes FAST rather than embracing the natural splendor about them unclothed as they used to), has to be let go of in order to truly overcome suffering.

And humanity wouldn't be able to learn HOW to overcome suffering unless they KNEW what suffering was, so...

Why make the fruit if it isn't meant to be eaten?
Why give humans Free Will (The capacity or desire to disobey) if you don't want them to disobey?

The opposite of Greed is Temperance in this context. That's honestly something Paul might benefit from.
He's taken Greed to the point of being Temperance though; he could very well corrupt Temperance into being Greed by forcing it to run both ways.
That might explain a thing or two. ;)
Actually, this is interesting, because he seemed to be managing without one just fine before, so if he is now suffering from having that not be a part of his soul then would that be a sign that he's adapting to the point of needing a soul again?

Is that sort of what he did by having the Ophidians Heart as a soul?

Wasn't he just thinking about how ethics systems can and can't apply to different situation? I imagine that having a instinct for what one of them would say about your actions, and then making coming with a instant dose of pavlovian conditioning to react to said instincts, would be rather pointless for someone with Enlightenment.

Actually, this is interesting; if the fruit forces someone to conform to their own system of ethics...But how would that effect a demon? (I hope that it wouldn't just pull a "You will now suffer because you touch yourself!" shtick on them) Or how it would effect someone whos system of ethics is forcing them to find a new system of ethics.

So, a thought occurs: Paul is finding the League replacement for their magic user slot. However, he has also caused another position to become vacant. His own on the Team. He was their alien tech expert, medic and weapon manufacturer. And, ok, Kid Flash with his potions kinda fills the medic role, and Canis with his motherbox kinda fits as an alien tech expert, but overall, without Paul the Team is very much diminished. He needs to find them a healer and someone with access to an advanced alien database.

Also, a thought: I wonder how Mother of Mercy and Euanthe would interact. Also, MoM and Gaea.

Well, if you're a raging egomaniac...it's far more enjoyable to have willing submission and obedience then it is is to have the same programed in. He already made winged ones to fly up and kiss his ass.

Of course, if you go by the whole "He knows everything that ever has, or will occur" then you get stuck with the idea that billions and billions of years before he did anything, he already knew how it was going to turn out. Kind of like that whole flood the world and drown everyone for doing that crap that you already knew that they were going to do thing.
