You really think that Fate couldn't phase food through the solid surface of his helmet with minimum amount of effort?

Also, when Wally was wearing the helmet, we saw that if the host body is damaged then the host feels it and can speak with Nabu. Logically, this would imply that Zatara would feel it if his body was starving.

Considering that Kent Nelson's spirit was able to pester Nabu about freeing Zatara enough that Nabu had to "release" him to his proper afterlife, that also suggest that if Zatara was starving then he could pester Nabu about it until he gave in and ate a hamburger or something.

So yeah, even if Nabu can't feel hunger, there is reason to believe that his host can and they can make their needs known.

Though I will admit, other than simply making Nabu seem needlessly negligence, having Zatara feel out of it after the ordeal does prevent him from telling his side of the story, and thus allow this confrontation to occur as it did.

Kent Nelson's spirit was tied to the helmet, explicitly to keep Nabu company. When he removed himself from Zatanna's head, she was surprised and confused by him putting on the helmet, even though her eyes had witnessed him putting himself forward as a replacement.

"Oh I do hope you're not casting ME in that same category!" Admonished their red-headed newcomer. "Rest assured, unlike my once fellow Lord of Chaos, I fully intend to support the interests of my new friends...so long as my interests are served as well!"
Can't Mordru... not come back, since the Chaos Quota for Earth is still filled? (With Constantine)
EDIT: I suppose that is only an assumption... but in that case we may also see a new Lord of Order. Interesting?

If so, that's pretty fucking negligent - I mean, all of the team file after-action reports, and talking to her adopted son would reveal the team's view of Nabu as an asshole, if a heroic one (opinion of the conspiracy besides).
Except that there didn't seem to be an actual conversation about it.

An after action report can easily be seen to support either way, the thing of Zatarra taking on the responsibility rather than his daughter (With Diana taking the view that it was an agreement for a partnership rather than enslavement, thinking that it was the way that Kent and Nabu used to act) for that specific act and led to Zatarra becoming the new Fate full time, and the view that is pointed to in this story that it was a thing of Zatarra offering himself in bondage rather than his daughter.

It's something that has a major difference between points, but a written report or even a quick one wouldn't be that big of a thing.

In other words, essentially another major case of the old axiom of "Poor Communication Kills" and in this case more than normal.

I suspect Billy would actually find OL's arguments plausible, just because he knows Shazam is rather fallible, so Nabu falling into the mental traps that lead to what TV Tropes might call "Knight Templarism" are probably actually rather logical to him.

Thanks
Luc "Logical Weaknesses" French

He would, but at the same time, he didn't have the rest of the info until OL's questioning just now.

godammit Jordan >.<
.... was he still as much an ass AFTER (recovering from?)going full paralax? >.>

Or he's playing the challenger in the questioning, using things that would reveal any flaws in the narrative. Essentially playing the prosecution...

Perhaps Princess Amethyst might fill that role, if she decides go that expansionst route to prevent civil war between the Gemhouses.

Of course, that would mean that we'd get the Lord of Chaos named "Child" and his anchor/familiar/golem, "Flaw", so we'd basically get another Klarion.

I wonder if Child and the Witch-boy had a rivalry between one another...

Finally caught up on Paragon from behind like 7 arcs May 2016.

It was a fun read catching up. I was going to do Last Supper (da Vinci) fanart of the team and their mentors, that arc was happy stuff, but noowww... Glad I didn't jump the gun and make any time traveling comments from the past while I was reading. I was tempted, but that would have been awkward with current events.

Smooth reading with no errors, appreciated that you take people's revisions to clean up.

Maybe he had other priorities. Considering Nabu's apparent affinity for dramatic solutions, Zatara probably focused a lot of his pestering on not killing people and being diplomatic toward allies.

Neglecting Zatara's body is pretty understandable. Nabu was busy with important work and seemed very goal-orientated, generally. Who wouldn't neglect their body under those circumstances? (Also, I suspect that he resented the need for a host body and was on some level intentionally abusing it.)

... derp. Thank you. XD

My personal headcanon is that Kryptonians have some kind of limited telekinesis or psychic powers that they use for their more exotic stuff.
Limited telekinesis is in fact canon in some representations of Superman but in WTR, Zoat has explicitly established that Kryptonians are NOT touch-telekines and that Superman does in fact have to be careful how he applies force to things.

.... Good lord that's pretty damn good. Few grammatical errors here and there, and maybe something about how OL sent a message to Diana saying no to joining the League, and thus was never a League member (League Associate I think). But damn that's pretty good. They all seemed in-character, for better or worse, but they still felt like the characters and like people.

Good job.
It's quite possible that the memo hasn't been sent out that OL declined League Membership. They would have known he'd been offered it, but Diana may have only mentioned it to certain people/those she'd actually talked to about the London Incident.

Unless it's the Russian guy who's going to become Rocket Red. And that still hasn't gone anywhere. I mean, it would be one thing to have to non-SI viewpoints.. but that was a weird one to prioritize if you were going to have one.

I do hope at least one of the JL members finds OL and talks to him before leaving the planet. If nothing else than to show a willingness to confront this issue and so we have SOME resolution in the next calendar year out of story.
It may be that after that experiment/interlude, Mr Zoat felt that the concept didn't work for this fic.

It may be that after that experiment/interlude, Mr Zoat felt that the concept didn't work for this fic.

If that is actually the case, that's a bit of a shame. The problem with that wasn't the device itself, it's what it was used for. The Russians have superheroes, we knew that. The Russians want someone on the League, we knew that too. All it did was introduce a character that would show up once and then not again for... Well, I sincerely doubt he'll appear before Paul leaves earth, I'll say that much. So all it did in practical terms was influence the audience' view of Rocket Red before his first real appearance and gave it an overly sinister undertone for no real reason (as far as we know). It didn't really accomplish anything.

Here, though? Getting the League perspective is important from a storytelling standpoint and leaving it unresolved for a year just means people are going to lose interest in that story thread. As has happened with the Nabu plot, that's what happens when you drag things out like that.

Still catching up but a question. What is the league going to do for a major magic user now? First they had Giovanni and then Nabu but Nabu got his justified death and Giovanni is recovering and has no reason to not give them the finger and his daughter is probable never joining either... Sure I guess they could get some Atlantean but there are very few who can fill those empty shoes.

Could also be that nabu could have used a spell to prevent the host from feeling the negative effects of him controlling him.

Queen Mera has been suggested a few times.
She is currently pregnant and going to be keeping her potential child faaaaaar away from combat - and will likely avoid it for several years beyond that.
She would probably have been more useful to the League than Aquaman - she's a strong magic-user with access to extensive research material beyond what she already knows. But that ship has sailed.
And based on what we saw with Kent, while Giovanni was a League-tier caster before being enslaved, Nabu could have turned a lesser caster into a League-tier one. (He had so much potential, wasted on crime!)
Most magic-users of that tier seem to be supervillains although Paul had a point that a few of them could be recruited with less accommodation than Nabu got.
I think they may need to just train one up, really. Atlantis has potential candidates, if they can be given the research access and artifacts to climb a little higher...
...or, y'know. The youth team has like five. Or they could recruit a passable Mage and Garrick Formula them to perform spells at super-speed.
(Please consider the terror that is Zatanna with the Staff of Love and able to speak spells faster than anyone can react. Garrick your Wizard and win initiative forever?)

Nowhere

No Place

No Time

The place, which was not a place, more of a hidden realm, a limbo of sorts, was perfect for clandestine meetings.

Displaced from ordinary Space-Time, an age spent there would last but a moment in the "Real" World, something which the spiritually projected members of The Light intended to make full use of.

With the rising worldwide interest in the supernatural further measures had to be taken to ensure the doings of their "little get-togethers", as the missing Klarion once glibly called them could be traced.

Those members who attended sat at in chairs of thought-smoke, at a table formed from the smoky ectoplasm that surrounded them. For a moment, there was only silence...

"...Well, this is an unfortunate and unforeseen turn of events." Muttered Vandal Savage, his "hands" steepled beneath his "chin".

"Hardly what I would call unfortunate." Intoned the astral projection of The Brain, having taken the form of the human body he once possessed. "The Witch-boy, for all his...contributions, was a reckless wild-card. We could not expect him to remain loyal to our cause, once our goals are achieved."

"Oh I do hope you're not casting ME in that same category!" Admonished their red-headed newcomer. "Rest assured, unlike my once fellow Lord of Chaos, I fully intend to support the interests of my new friends...so long as my interests are served as well!"

"Here here." Intoned Saturnus, who raised a rather LARGE skull-goblet of dream wine, wrung from the blasphemous nightmares of an evangelical preacher with secret, shameful, sinful predilections.

"Nonetheless, wretched as he was, Klarion provided a great deal of mystical support to The Light. His fall from "grace" has lead to another to taking his power and mantle. One, who is opposed to our organization. One, John Constantine."

"Why do you think I'm drinking?", snarled-hissed Saturnus. "That magician was a considerable irritant to Hell as a mortal. Now that he's ascended to level of his betters, he's now a truly genuine menace" with that said, the Hell-Prince took a gulp from his goblet.

Circe, quiet for the most part, took that moment to speak up, smiling in amusement.

"Oh, I'd say the man's risen up a BIT higher on the ladder of the celestial hierarchy than that. After the Order-Lord Nabu actually offed himself-"

"Accidentally" hissed Mordru, relishing the word.

"-from what I've heard, the magician also somehow took the power and position of Nabu as well! Now, we have someone who's both a Lord of Order and Chaos out and about in the world!"

"Ah. Thank you for reminding me." Saturnus knocked back another goblet-full.

"Yes.... I seem to notice that Mr. Constantine has a very.... ominous reputation among your kind", mused Lex Luthor. "Mr. Simpson, one of our best techno-mancers, who you graciously donated to the cause, has been having numerous fits of panic since he heard the news."

"Not surprising. John Constantine is the very reason Mr. Simpson is a demon in the first place. Former friends, you know. He's right to be worried. Being a demon, Richard is more vulnerable than he thinks, especially if The Laughing Magician uses his ties and knowledge he held of him as a human-"

"He wont have the chance, trust me.", stated the Chaos-Lord as he appeared to check his fingernails for non-existant dirt. "His rise to true power won't last long." Scoffed Mordru.

"Powerful, Antithetical Cosmic Forces can't exist in a singular form for too long. Eventually they'll tear him apart from the inside-out, (or outside-in), and those energies will be respectively restored to the Planes of Existence they belong to!"

"What my masculine-minded counterpart forgets, is one of the most fundamental Laws of Magic, of which he and his kind do not embody, unlike their opposite, more "structured" kin who do. The Law of Synthesis.", drawled Circe, raising a sardonic eyebrow, drawing an icy stare from the warlock.

""The synthesis of two or more "opposing" patterns of data will produce a new pattern that will be "truer" than either of the first ones were, that is, it will be applicable to more realities (or "levels of reality")", yeah, I think most of us read the same New Age Books.", commented Nylor Truggs, who had been brought into meeting to share expertise in another matter.

"So you're saying it's possible for Lord Johnny "Constant One" to make the two sides come together as one within him?"

"Well, technically, from I understand, this sort of thing has happened before. Order and Chaos, working side by side, hand in hand..."

"The Wizard Shazam and Lord Oggar are hardly on what I would call "speaking-terms" these days.", sneered Mordru.

"Oh, them? Oh, nonononononono! I'm referring to that little Shakespearean issue that happened between Order and Chaos, about oh, say, several millenia ago?

Mordru did something very strange in that moment.

He had been almost pleasantly aloof for the most part, but right then and there, all emotion, any trace of humanity seemed to have left him, his attention entirely focused upon the demi-goddess.

Circe smiled wide with predatory glee. "Yes. Quite the scandal, wasn't it? Something so torrid, that even the great Lords of Chaos couldn't tolerate it!"

"I'm...a little lost. That doesn't really happen, I don't like it. What is she talking about?", asked a confused Truggs.

"A҉͞n ̸̀̀a̛͢͠n͘͞͏ć̕͝҉i̡͟͡e̡͢͞͞n̢̧҉҉̛t͏҉̛̕ ̕͠͞à̵̡͟f̵̛͝f̧́͘r̸̸̸̨̧o̸͢͞n̕͜t̕͠͠ ̶̴̨́ţ̀͠͝͝h̕a̸̷̢̧̧t̴̴̕ ̸̢́͢͠t̨h̴͞i̕͏ś̴ ̴͡w̧͢͠į̴̴͜t̷̨̛͡ḉ͘h̷̵̸͢͝ ̵̧h̴̕͞a̶̴̴͠҉s̴̷̀ ̸̛ǹ̷̢͜o͜͡ ̧̛͢͝r̴̶͏̡i͏g͡h͜͢҉t͟҉̷͞ ́͏͡͠t̶͠͡o̸͞ ̵̵̛̀͠s̛͢͡p̨̕̕è̕a̢͜͞͞҉k̢ ҉̸̷̷̛o̷͢f̴͢.̵̧́͝" stated Mordru, voice, colder than the outer dark of the Universal Night.

"Less of an affront, more of an affair! Apparently, two opposing Great Powers, one, a Lord of Order, Teretaya, and the other, a Lord of Chaos, T'charr, comitted the one act that neither Order nor Chaos could allow..."

"Which was...?", prompted Vandal Savage.

"They fell in love."

"...What."

"Oh, it may not sound THAT shocking to most of you here, what with gossip magazines and celebrity scandal, but in the mystical realms, nothing is more taboo than powers from completely opposite factions joining together, in flagrante delicto!", cackled the sorceress.

"Chaos despised the union because building relationships, especially with their hated enemy, isn't something they'd support.

Order loathed it because they believed any intimate relations with Chaos always lead to ruin in the Great Scheme of Things."

Saturnus sniffed, "So? This is hardly anything new to me. A succubus once seduced an angel of the Silver City for crying out loud. What does this have to do with John Constantine?"

"Word is, outcast into the planes beyond, they joined their power as one. Rumor has it, they call themself "The Unity" these days. An entity who seeks to prove to both Houses of the power and potential of their factions... working together. And Constantine, a singular being, in which the separate cosmic powers they both represent being part of him..."

In the black shadows of his helmet, the demon-lord's blazing eyes widened.

"The wizard...will seek them. Being singular in form, he cannot hope to fully master his newfound strength without aid from those who know the forces and powers which both fuel!"

"Precisely. And no doubt the word will eventually reach Teretaya and T'charr, and once it does, they will send for him, for they will be able to go to him!"

Mordru blinked. His smile slowly returned. "Yesss. I see now. Find the realm of the abomination, The Unity, seek it, destroy it, but after we know for sure it has lured The Constant One to it!"

Lex nodded thoughtfully, "Two problems, one for us, and two for your faction, solved."

"And for Order as well, I imagine.", mused The Brain. "Perhaps they would be amiable to a temporary alliance?"

"Against two affronts to their "Natural Order?"", said Mordru, raising his "eyes" upward in thought. "They might...provided that we provide them with what we know so far. Of course, I can't talk to them. They care anything EXTREMELY chaotic contacting them. The prudish bastards."

Vandal nodded, "Then perhaps Circe...?"

The purple-haired, smirking enchantress replied.

"Of course."
Wasn't Mordru blocked from the mortal realm due to klarion already fulfilling the spot for chaos Lord?
Than since his chaos essence was still their, than shouldn't he still be blocked from the mortal realm ?

There is a point touched on in some of the omakes, which I feel lies behind some of the disconnect between how OL and the JL saw the situation. The JL spent their time interacting with Nabu, who was a bit of a dick but also acting heroically. OL spent his time avoiding Nabu but interacting with Zatana, keenly aware of her grief and pain. Thus, over time the underlying issue with Zatara might have faded into the background somewhat for the JL, but not for OL.

Technically, as Constantine has been remade into an Archmage simultaneously embodying Order and Chaos, despite drawing power from both Planes of Existence, the Two Houses won't consider John to be of either one of them.

It's basically the same reason why Chaos-Lord T'charr and his lover, the Order-Lord Terataya are outcasts from their respective factions.

Both sides REALLY don't like it when they mix.

On the other hand - Klarion wanted to steal the Helmet of Fate. What Constantine is doing might not press the same buttons?
