Falling Action (part 13)
10th July
17:47 GMT

I lift the last of the ramparts off the ground, a smattering of cheers rising from the crowd. Orange lights circle around it for a moment before my point to point zeta tube construct activates, transporting it to its twin on the Moon. Check that it's arrived… Good. I've still got to hand my report over to Sir Bernard and Boris, but I'm going to give the League a little longer before doing so. It maintains their preferred lie and there's still a chance -a small one- that they're going to want to admit their deceit and be honest. If they do that, then I hand over the other report, and… Whether the League want to press murder charges or not, the City of London have a number of things they could charge me with of which I am completely guilty. As a Justice League affiliate I didn't have to worry about lying to local authorities but as a Special Constable it's a much bigger concern.

I shake my head and take a look at Hyde Park. Nabu's ankhplosions aside, there wasn't actually all that much damage to our immediate environment during the fight. The plant life doesn't seem to have been harmed by the order magic… Then again, I don't imagine that it's all that easy to knock a plant out. Some surveyors from the Royal Parks have been around to look at it and rope off anything dangerous looking, but they've held off doing any work on the perfectly sensible grounds that it will be easier and cheaper to just have me do it.

Hm.

I drift over the area of the fight. The trees that lost bark or branches are easy enough to fix; just a matter of accessing the rings' records of the state they were in before the fight, then recreating and reattaching the missing material. Same with the pressure waves; just use the rings to gather up the loose soil and sod and return it to where it should…

That's a part of Mister Siskin's body.

I float it up towards me and look at it. I'm not exactly sure what Nabu did to the rock, but it's.. flaky and brittle now. His family… They'd already gotten over the shock of it when I visited them. They… Accepted my condolences… Sombrely. My lies, my… His-. Rescuing him from the Terror Thing was one of the things I was most proud of. Perhaps even more than my work rehabilitating the Beresfords, it was a life snatched back from the maw of ruination. He was alive, and if not happy then at least with the potential for future happiness. I'd found a life locked in constant torment and rescued it not just from that but from Nabu's callousness.

And Nabu killed him. Because I brought him here.

I mean, I told his parents that he was a vital part of the team, because of course I did, but that's bullshit. Nabu flared with yellow as they grappled and went pretty much back to normal after killing him. I could have achieved the same result by just keeping Nabu talking a little longer. I didn't know that at the time, and… Disabling him with fear and then chaining him involved far less risk of killing him than doing a full drain in a rush…

Is that what I should take away from this? That I should be more ruthless? Take their first refusal to surrender as definitive? I don't… I would prefer not to operate like that, but I… Whatever position I end up with in my Lantern Corps, I will have people die. People I'll have trained, people under my command. It's unavoidable. Did I..? Give Nabu extra chances because I hate him? Did I want to prove I was being fair? Give him enough rope to hang himself with? I don't think so…

Uh. Obvious downside of alienating the League: I can't talk to them about things like this. That leaves Adom and Alan, and I am planning on speaking to both of them before I leave.

Alan. That's a conversation that I'm looking forwards to almost as much as the one with the Siskins.

I return my attention to the park. Like it never happened. Okay, what next? Zatanna doesn't want to move her father until he's a little more recovered. I think that'll end up being the last thing I do on Earth.

Whaw, that sounded ominous. I take the report out of subspace for a moment and look at it. Should that be the next thing-?

**Paul?**

I look up from the report, and then around. With my accustomed barrier down, feeling out M'gann's location… Ah, there she is. She's in Megan Morse mode with Kon at her side.

**Yes?**

**'Yes'?** Kon frowns. **That's all you've got to say about it?**

**I'm not sure what there is to add. You know what I did and why. I can.. spare the time if you want to talk about it. Where do you want to do it?**

He and M'gann look at each other, and… I can't tell if they're whispering or excluding me mentally. Not that I'm going to probe the matter. A moment later Kon nods and turns back in my direction. **The roof over there.** He points in the direction of the Access Self Storage building. **Two minutes.**

**Of course. Though I should warn you that British buildings aren't built with rooftop superhero confrontations in mind. Try to go easy on it.**

He and M'gann turn away, moving through the crowd to look for a place to… Change, I suppose. In Kon's case that just means taking off his shirt and brushing his hair slightly differently. M'gann just needs somewhere out of line of sight so that she can shapeshift. I give the crowd below a half-hearted wave and then ascend at speed, swiftly getting too high for them to easily see. Not many clouds, and we've got hours of sunlight left. Not great for a private chat, but then I don't think that the building has roof access and London doesn't have any resident fliers.

Okay, that should do it. I transition downwards to the centre of the roof, as close to the surface of it as I can without touching it. Ring, check structural integrity.

Structure will bear both your weight and that of your companions.

Alright then. I land, dropping my aura down to next to nothing as I do so. I don't want to look like any aggression I feel is directed at them. O-kay, what do I do after this meeting? I think I'll go and speak to Adom. He kept things on track after the Ambush, and I need to thank him for that as well as for his participation. Might be worth pointing out that what Nabu did to him rather proves that picking a fight with Shazam would be a bad idea…

"Hey."

I turn to see Kon floating over the lip of the building's roof, M'gann just behind him.

"Good after-."

"Why didn't you tell me?" He comes in to land just in front of me, staring me in the eyes. "I get why you didn't tell the League, but why the hell didn't you tell m-us?"

"Several reasons. In order to maintain secrecy, I didn't want to include anyone I didn't absolutely need. Too much chance of a telepath overhearing something, or Wonder Woman talking to you and hearing a lie. Or Nabu doing.. something. You're strong, tough and a capable fighter, but you don't have any specific anti-Order Lord abilities. Any harm you did to him would have been felt by Mister Zatara more than Nabu, and that was exactly what I was trying to avoid if the confrontation turned violent." A little of the irritation fades from his face. "And then there's Wonder Woman."

He looks away for a moment. "Yeah. I don't know why she didn't… I mean, all the League-."

"No, I don't mean 'why did she accept Nabu'. I mean, the damage it would have done to your relationship with her when she found out that you'd been helping me with this behind her back. She's.. usually big on honesty and openness. And could you? Lie to her convincingly, with that lie detection ability she's got, for months?"

"No." He looks down, shaking his head. "No, I don't think I could. I don't even get how you did it. Do your.. tattoos block it or something?"

"Not as far as I know. But when I was studying her abilities, I noticed that it only triggers for direct lies. You can talk around a subject or say something misleading and as long as you're not too obvious about it nothing triggers."

"What about Teekl? Wolf hasn't come out of her basket since we got back to the Mountain."

I bow my head slightly. "I'm… That wasn't supposed to happen. I still don't.. really know why it did. Something about… Transferring the link, between Klarion and the Plane of Chaos." I shake my head. "But again, telling you wouldn't have-."

M'gann folds her arms across her chest. "And what about me?"

"M'gann, you're a terrible liar, and you're from a planet where sharing thoughts all the time is the norm. Can you imagine if you'd had to keep people out of your memories during our trip to Mars?"

"I-." She thinks about it for a moment. "Okay, but I'm not a terrible liar. None of you knew I was a White Martian-."

"I knew since the campfire."

"… You did?"

"You backtracked too hard, and the expression on your face made it pretty obvious. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but-" I point my right forefinger at my right eye. "-I've got pretty good night vision."

"Oh."

"Look… I'm not going to apologise, because it was the correct decision. I'm not even going to say that I regret it. Nabu killed Siskin, and he could well have ended up killing either of you. But I really don't want to-."

"Kon, M'gann." Diana flies out of the sky, hovering just above us. "Would you please give my student and I a moment?"

Is anyone else super excited for OL leaving earth!?

I realize there's lots of heavy emotional stuff right now, but this could be awesome!

If nothing major happens, it will be just one more day before we get to see an excellently written story exploring the rich and expansive DC universe off of Earth!

Interesting new settings and characters.
An environment where OL is isolated from his in-group and stimulated to develop as a person.

I'm really hoping this actually happens, because it looks like it will be great!
I definitely am. While I wasn't all that hyped about the current episode, an expectation that proved wrong, I've always looked forward to space adventures more.
Isn't he going to be off planet for a couple years? So at the current rate, we'll see the resolution in like 2030? I know you like cliffhangers, man, but that's... can we get a spoilered summary or something, at least
He's not going to be spending a significant amount of time on Earth for years, but he will still drop by every now and then.
Thanks

"That… could have gone better." Hawkman said.

The single judgement broke the silence of the room.

"That little punk!" Hawkwoman bristled. "He can't just blackmail us like that and walk out without a consequence!"

"I think he just did." Gardner smiled. "Kid has a pair –"

"Are we really going to accept this?" Aquaman glowered. "Are we really going to bow our heads and carry on as if one of our students hasn't just used dark magic to murder a member of the Justice League?"

"Yes. We are." Diana said with a heavy heart.

"Really?" Aquaman frowned. "Just because he's your student –"

"My student, and a citizen of my country." Diana stood over Aquaman, her sorrow replaced with anger fitting for a goddess. "And most importantly, he was right. He acted in the best manner possible, and if that wasn't sufficient it was because we didn't provide him with the information to make a better choice. He acted in accordance with every ideal the Justice League holds, except for the ideal of teamwork."

Aquaman met her gaze evenly. "Then as his princess, I assume you will be holding him accountable for swearing himself in as an officer of another nation's state?"

"And you aren't at all letting your opinion be influenced by the revelation of your love child!?"

Aquaman shot to his feet.

So did Superman. "That's enough!"

He held his arms out to Aquaman and Wonder Woman. "Both of you, sit down. This isn't the time to be fighting."

The two monarchs continued to glare at each other. Diana's gaze softened first, and she sat down shamed. "I'm sorry Arthur. That was uncalled for."

Aquaman sat down himself, and let out a breath of air he hadn't realized he'd been holding. "Likewise."

"So… how much of that is true?"

Superman's stern expression fell at Icon's worried frown. "What do you mean?"

"Somehow, when Dr. Fate and I talked, he never brought up that he might be holding someone as a slave." Icon said, with only the barest hint of accusation in his tone. "While he was unapproachable, I never suspected he might be engaging in such despicable acts. This is the first I've heard of his origins, or any cover up by the League. I've heard Paul's side of the story. I would like to hear yours."

"Yeah." Plastic man twisted in his seat. "Some of us here didn't vote Nabu on the League. We thought he was cool with you guys."

"Obviously there's been a breakdown in communications somewhere." The Atom said, not sounding wholly convinced himself. "You must have had a reason for acting like you did, right?"

"Did you truly stand by and do nothing as Nabu took control of Giovanni Zatara?" Icon asked, looking Superman in the eyes. "And if there was nothing you could do, did you then deny a fourteen year old girl a legal guardian and not warn her beforehand that you were inviting her father's kidnapper into the Justice League?"

Superman faltered, and looked to Batman for an answer.

"The League as a whole adopted her as a ward." Batman said. "I offered to take full custody of her, but she declined and opted to live in the Mountain. I have some experience raising superheroes, and decided that not pressing the issue would be the best course of action, that surrounding herself with friends her own age would be –"

"Wait a minute." The Atom stood. "The League? The whole Justice League adopted Zatanna as a ward? Nobody told me when I joined up that there was a girl that might need some help and guidance. Hell, I didn't even know she'd lost her dad!"

"I thought Batman was handling it." The Flash said. "He's in charge of the youth team."

"Him and Black Canary and Red Tornado." John Stewart added.

"Did nobody think to tell her beforehand that Nabu would be joining the League?" Captain Atom asked. "And… did you really not tell Giovanni's friends anything?"

Black Canary's fists curled. "We discussed it with Batman. Red Tornado and I. But... the League policy was to not confirm a candidate's placement until the day came."

"Funny, how you came up with that policy to avoid mind controlling plots." Guy Gardner looks around the table. "No? Not funny?"

"Putting aside the issue of Zatara's daughter for a moment." The Atom cut in hesitantly. "What about Nabu? You guys wouldn't have let him into the Justice League if he was as bad as Orange Lantern said, right?"

Nobody knew what to say to that. The first person to speak would be the first person to agree or disagree with the heart of Paul's argument. And some of them weren't at all sure what their own position was.

"I think you put it just right." Green Arrow said with a sigh. "When you said we should put it aside for the moment. That's why we voted Nabu onto the League, so he could be where we saw him. That's also why we voted the Accomplished Perfect Physician on. His power was part of the plan Batman and Captain Marvel had to remove Nabu from Giovanni. But… the plan kept getting put aside. Nabu wasn't going anywhere, we could get to him some other day. We were busy with other things, saving lives that needed saving today. And Nabu was helping us save those lives."

"I wish I could have come up with a way to save them sooner." Captain Marvel rubbed the back of his head. "I have the wisdom of Solomon but… it's not always turned on. And the Wizard couldn't help. He's a Lord of Order too, and the Princes of Order would have taken away a lot of his power if he tried to sabotage another Lord of Order's mission. I've been trying to figure out a way to save them both, and I've come up with a few ideas… but for people like Paul who don't know a lot of magic, I guess it was easier to kill Nabu, and he was too powerful and too stubborn to give them other options."

"I think that's the attitude most of us had." The Flash nodded. "Wanting to find a solution that could make them both happy. Giovanni's a good friend of ours, and we did want to give him his life back. But Nabu deserved a life too. He was on the Justice Society. Like Jay, Alan, Ted. Like Wonder Woman and Red Tornado. They were all great heroes. And yeah, sometimes we disagree. Hal and Olly argue all the time. I guess we… well, maybe it's just me. I sort of just downplayed it as another argument. Sure, Nabu was on the wrong side of the argument, but he was stuck on a shelf for years, he was going to cool down eventually. And when he spoke for Giovanni, it sounded like stuff Giovanni would say, and I didn't see any reason not to trust a member of the Justice Society."

"We should've seen the warning signs when he decided not to take a golem." Green Arrow muttered.

"Exactly." Hawkman nodded to Flash. "The priority of the Justice League was to separate Dr. Fate, not kill Nabu. That was a distinction Paul, apparently, didn't have time for. While I admit we share the blame for not fully divulging our plan to him and Zatanna, that does not merit such overreaction. Orange Lantern has just killed a member of the Justice League, and a member of the Justice Society, and then blackmailed us into silence about it. If we were in Thanagar –"

"We are not in Thanagar." Wonder Woman glared at him.

"If we were on any sort of sensible planet he'd have his ring taken from him." Hawk Woman glared challengingly at Wonder Woman.

"Oh come on, you can't blame him." Plastic Man shifted his form to accommodate judge's wig and robes. "I'm a superhero now, but if I suddenly started trying to rule the world –" His costume changed into a military uniform, and he grew a very familiar moustache. "Wouldn't you guys try and stop me even if I was a former member of the Justice League?"

"We'd definitely try to talk you down first." John Stewart said.

"But Paul did try to talk to Nabu first." Guy piped up. "It's not his fault Nabu thought he was too chaotic to be trusted."

"Eris…" Wonder Woman frowned thoughtfully.

"Even when he was possessed by the Ophidian, all he wanted to do was be friends with everyone. He's not a bad guy."

"Would a good guy keep this a secret for eight months?" Superman asked. "What I saw here today was not the same Orange Lantern I've seen for the past year. Only Supervillains rant about how their actions were justified."

"So what do we do about this?" Captain Atom asked. "Clearly letting him join the League is off the table, but as for additional disciplinary action..."

"I'm sorry, but are you really suggesting we turn this on Paul?" Green Arrow asked.

"We did go through a lot of effort to get that giant snake out of him." Captain Marvel pointed out. "And I don't think he realizes how dangerous that was, or why we were able to act so quickly. Is it so wrong that he expects us to do the same for Zatara?"

"I'm still a little stuck on the idea that Zatanna's father got kidnapped and you decided to just let her do whatever." The Atom said.

"That wasn't Paul's fault, that was on us." Hawkman said. "What matters is his blatant opposition of the Justice League. He'd be nothing without us, but after taking him under our wing for a year and teaching him all we know he repays us with assassination?"

"Wow." Red Arrow rolled his eyes. "After a year going above and beyond the call of duty on the kiddy team, to the point where we trusted him enough to do a critique on the Justice League, he gets it into his head that maybe he can take on a supervillain without you holding his hand. What a shocker."

"No." Aquaman shook his head. "I agree he needs to be punished somehow, but we can't kick him off the League. If he ever goes rogue, he needs to be somewhere we can see him."

"Because that worked out so well for Nabu." Captain Marvel rolled his eyes.

"Now that we can see the signs, we should be able to stop him from going rogue." Black Canary added.

"We can't let him join the League after he just killed a member!" Hal Jordan roared.

"I agree." Superman said. "His goals may be admirable, but his methods are questionable. And if he can't trust us, how can we trust him?"

"Trust is not given freely." Wonder Woman sagged in her chair. "It is earned."

"Paul was trying to be diplomatic." The Martian Manhunter said. "He was terrified of burning his bridges here. He is friends with many of us, and many times tried to silence himself, only to be propelled forward by the lasso. Flash is right, friends sometimes fight with each other. His anger should not be taken as a sign that he is a burgeoning supervillain. If he has not trusted us with his anger for the past months, then we must ask what we have done that warranted his lack of faith."

"You want to know why he didn't tell us?" Hal fumed. "It's because he was still under oath to obey Wonder Woman and Batman, and he decided to just avoid telling them instead of risk admitting he was wrong!"

"He was no longer bound by his oath except by his own honor." Wonder Woman defended him.

"Then why else would he spring his trap now?" Hal snapped. "So he could say to our faces 'at least I kept my word' while doing everything else he could to circumvent –"

The Martian Manhunter stood up. "Orange Lantern did not –"

Superman slammed his hand against the table. "Just ask Paul's friend Luthor about looking good while committing –"

"So what if they're friends, Batman's married to a super –"

"Let's not start attacking character –"

"He killed a man, why are we talking about -"

"Enough."

The table fell silent. All eyes turned to Batman as he stood.

"This meeting was meant to be a briefing. It is not a court martial. It is not an inquiry or disciplinary meeting. This meeting is not even about whether Orange Lantern should be disciplined. And even if it were, Orange Lantern is not a member of the Justice League. Only Diana has the authority to punish him without resorting to arrest."

"This meeting was meant to ascertain the facts of what happened, pending an investigation. And we will investigate." He turned to Wonder Woman. "I trust you will look into Eris?" Diana nodded. "Black Canary, you will speak to Zatanna. I will investigate the other participants of the…" For a moment, Batman mulled over using 'arrest' or using 'ambush'. "…Incident. Accomplished Perfect Physician will see to the state of Zatara's health."

"We will then reconvene, and share our findings with the League. At which point we will hold a meeting to decide what direction the League as a whole will take, in regards to what we will be telling the world, what our relationship is with Orange Lantern, and… what our goals are moving forward. What our policies will be, as a League, in regards to Justice. Whether it's Nabu, Orange Lantern, Red Inferno, Red Arrow, Canis Minor, Swamp Thing, or my wife… we have always practiced a certain amount of forgiveness alongside Justice. We need to come to a decision on when and why we choose to forgive. How we do our jobs must be decided on."

"I advise you all to think long and hard about what you want to say during that meeting. I advise you to do your own investigations. Ask yourself what you think is right. Ask Paul, while he's still on planet. Ask the members of the Justice Society. Ask the youth team. Until we decide on a course of action the details must be kept secret, but ask your friends and family, in general terms. Remember your past interactions with Orange Lantern, and ask yourself what has changed. His outburst was unexpected, and many of us are off balance. Take the time to center yourselves. We will come to a decision reached by debate, not by childish argument."

"Meeting adjourned."
Very well done. One thing that other people haven't mentioned: the colors are off. Zoat uses color=0040ff for blue and color=3f33cc for indigo.
This was intentional. A knee-jerk reaction from aquaman and hawkman, who would both assume that things worked that way. He is, after all, still a member of the Justice League's youth team even if he isn't a member of the League itself. And with Diana having invited him to join and nobody ever rejecting the offer before, he's tantamount to being a member. But yeah, looking back Batman wouldn't have decided to discuss disciplinary action in a later meeting, he would have realized that he had no authority to do that, will fix.
But the SI left the team 6 days ago, and rejected the League offer 3 days ago. They surely would have heard by now.
Also, when Wally was wearing the helmet, we saw that if the host body is damaged then the host feels it and can speak with Nabu. Logically, this would imply that Zatara would feel it if his body was starving.

Considering that Kent Nelson's spirit was able to pester Nabu about freeing Zatara enough that Nabu had to "release" him to his proper afterlife, that also suggest that if Zatara was starving then he could pester Nabu about it until he gave in and ate a hamburger or something.

So yeah, even if Nabu can't feel hunger, there is reason to believe that his host can and they can make their needs known.

Though I will admit, other than simply making Nabu seem needlessly negligence, having Zatara feel out of it after the ordeal does prevent him from telling his side of the story, and thus allow this confrontation to occur as it did.
Zatara might have been made to go to sleep when Nabu realized he would be able to keep the body long term and didn't want to be distracted.
Finally caught up on Paragon from behind like 7 arcs May 2016.

It was a fun read catching up. I was going to do Last Supper (da Vinci) fanart of the team and their mentors, that arc was happy stuff, but noowww... Glad I didn't jump the gun and make any time traveling comments from the past while I was reading. I was tempted, but that would have been awkward with current events.

Smooth reading with no errors, appreciated that you take people's revisions to clean up.
Oh we haven't had anyone able to make fanart in a while. Fantastic.
...isnt that just a sheep?
You may have missed the joke.

Or maybe I did? Idk.
Still catching up but a question. What is the league going to do for a major magic user now? First they had Giovanni and then Nabu but Nabu got his justified death and Giovanni is recovering and has no reason to not give them the finger and his daughter is probable never joining either... Sure I guess they could get some Atlantean but there are very few who can fill those empty shoes.
Cornwall Boy is available, and Zoat said that one step of the SI repairing relationships with the League is finding other magic users to replace Nabu.

subject or say something misleading and as long as your not too obvious about it nothing triggers."
as you're not too

Getting around a truth-teller by telling half-truth or misleading truths? Pretty classic tactic when dealing with elves and fairy with that ability in mythology. Evidently it also works on Wonder Woman.

I don't understand why people keep complaining about cliffhangers in this fic. When it comes to fic you have to wait weeks for updates and even shows take at least a week before the next episode. With this fic you just need to wait 24 hours until each updates everyday.
We became spoiled basically. We are too used to constant updates that we take them for granted.

1. Jack Slash doesn't use mind control. He's just good at manipulating people.
That's actually a common misconception.

Jack Slash is not just good at manipulating peoples, he also gets his power from a shard that plays favorites and can influence the mind of other capes. For example, Wildbow explained that the reason that Imp didn't simply kill Jack when she had the chance was that his shard influenced her mind, making her too scared of consequences to try it; also, if the shard hadn't been able to influence her that way, it would instead have made Crawler stumble into her or otherwise manipulated another S9 to keep his host alive.

2. Why do you put a signature on your comments? I'm not really seeing the point when signatures are a built in thing for SV.
Since he changes his signature with every post, he needs to type it himself. The built-in signature from SV cannot adapt to what's being said.

It's like watching an infected wound finally being cleaned so it can heal. A lot of pain, a lot of undesirable things being exposed, but eventually the healing will come, even if it comes with a scar to show that it will never be exactly the same.

Because the human subconcious wishes for completeness, for full circles. Also Zoat does it almost constantly. The abuse of the cliffhanger trope builds up to be annoying. Oh it's 24 hours, oh you can read it later. No, there needs to be at least some sort of resolution, I am re reading the story from scratch and it constantly pops up.

Is anyone else having problems with the alerts for this thread? Half the time for the actual chapters I don't receive notice. I've tried un- and then rewatching, but that doesn't really seem to do anything in the long term.

This has been happening a lot for me recently, for a lot of threads here and on SB, without apparent rhyme or reason. It's got to the point I'm going through Watched Threads every time I check my alerts just to make sure I haven't missed anything.

He turned to Wonder Woman. "I trust you will look into Eris?" Diana nodded. "Black Canary, you will speak to Zatanna.
I'd love to see Zatanna and Black Canary's argument.

Since "With This Ring" is all Paul's POV, perhaps Megan could telepathically replay the confrontation now that OL doesn't need to constantly shield his mind.

In regards to Wonder Woman and Eris, what is Eris' opinion of free will and mental domination? It'd a fitting case of 'Even Evil Has It's Standards' (TV tropes) if the goddess of strife and discord considered free will to be sacrosanct. Or, for 'Blue and Orange Morality', Eris could espouse how trickery and mischief is only meaningful/satisfying if the victim willingly falls for it.

What about Hippolyta? How would she react to Diana's role in allowing Nabu to control Zatarra's body for months? If Diana and Kon's mother-son relationship hits a major road bump, Hippolyta could be forced to take a more active role in her adopted grandson's life until things settle down.

It might not work as well as OL thinks it does.

As Zoat has confirmed that Wonder Woman could tell he was lying about his age. Though she thinks he's younger than he's saying, not much older like it actually is.

I don't think so…
Assuming that he ends up in a position of authority, I really wonder how he would deal with sending someone into a situation where he knows that whoever he sends will die. Would he tell them upfront? Would he lie to make sure they complete the mission? Would he ask for a volunteer from a pool of potential people, or ask one individual to do it? However it gets done, there will likely be people who disagree, and he won't have the complete trust of the people under him for quite some time. I mean, a single year as a lantern isn't enough to pull much veterancy, especially in a peaceful sector.

There will also be situations where he can't save everyone. On Earth, there's not too many people he can't overpower if he really puts his all into it, and help is always close by. After he leaves Earth, he has no guarantee he is even strong enough to beat his opponent, much less accomplish his every objective. If some warlord threatens to blow up a school if the SI continues his mission, will he prioritize completing the mission or saving the civilians? Will he maybe even blow up the school himself, if he knows that he can't save them and doing it himself will throw his opponent off guard? That would be an interesting episode, and would spur endless discussion.

I wonder how much civilian personnel his Corps will have. While a lot of things are made trivial by power rings, some jobs will either not require them or be actively hindered by orange light corruption. Administrators like Salaak have no pressing need for a power ring, just something quick and intuitive to communicate with people. Maybe have counsellors for combat Lanterns, as them going unhinged would be rather bad. Maybe even have families stay in the Corps main base, so that the Lanterns have an emotional investment in their new home, and have someone to fight for.

Yeah, can certainly see how that can hurt deep knowing that you saved someone and then sent them to their death for virtually nothing.
Whatever position I end up with in my Lantern Corps, I will have people die. People I'll have trained, people under my command. It's unavoidable.
Another good point and a downside of a leader cause you will have those you know, trust, and worked close with die at some point sometimes even on your orders.

Hope Adom has good advice for this since he has led a whole nation and likely lost many friends in the process.
"What about Teekl? Wolf hasn't come out of her basket since we got back to the Mountain."
Oh poor wolf.
"Kon-El, M'gann." Diana flies out of the sky, hovering just above us. "Would you please give my student and I a moment?"
Hopefully this a a heart to heart that ends well in the long term for both parties.

Zoat updates literally everyday with each update being 1,200 to 1700 words. It makes sense that cliffhangers happen considering that it's next to impossible to put so much story in each update.

What about Hippolyta?
That's a relevant question for more than one reason. As I pointed out before, there's absolutely a precedent in international law for governments to persecute their citizens for crimes they committed abroad, even if those crimes aren't considered such where they were perpetuated. So if Hyppolita is not ok with Paul killing Nabu, she could absolutely put him to trial. Hell, Diana, as the heir to the throne and the princess of the country, probably has legal authority to detain, judge and enact judgement on Paul.

A thought just occurred to me. I dunno how With this ring will end....but I really, really, REALLY hope it doesn't end with Paul going back to Earth Prime and leaving all this behind. Because I loath that kind of ending with every fiber of my being. It ruins everything...whole stories/movies moved from enjoyable to nerve damaging displeasure.
