Forest Spirit

Forest Spirit, also called Shishigami (シシ神, lit. Deer God) and Night-Walker (デイダラボッチ, Deidarabotchi), is a supporting character in Princess Mononoke. It is known as a god of life and death. The Forest Spirit looks like deer, but with plant-like antlers and a human-like face.[1] It can transform...
I was thinking more like an actual deer, just planty. A deer with tree branches for antlers is pretty easy to imagine.

Lesser Daemon - Matron (Ordo Malleus desgnation - Felldar)

Associated Domains: Connection, Earth, Weaving

Description:
Different from known daemons for having a fairly normal appearance (looking like a cross between a plump Human woman and an Eldar, with the only way to actually tell it's a daemon being their unnaturally green eyes) Matrons are a fairly unique breed of daemon owing to the fact that they lack any and all capacity for taking offensive actions. Dedicated healers and assistants a Matrons sole duties are to care for the injured, assist in helping the local infrastructure (whether that be through aiding the Cults biomancers or simply working the farms), raising the Eldar children that are prominent in parts of the Cult or assisting with defensive magic in times of emergency to reinforce defensive wards or keep civilians safe. Cheerful and helpful (and slightly strict when it comes to raising their wards, their personalities switching to a true motherly bent when they are tasked with raising children) they are an aspect of the Verdant Maidens heartfelt desire to help people and her belief that so many problems can be solved without ever needing to take a life.

Because just because we CAN make non-human looking Daemons that instantly remind people of the Warp for defence/offensive purposes doesn't mean we have to. Lets do something different (because acting like a normal Chaos Cult/God even accidentally has already backfire once) entirely and prove we're not like the ones that came before.

Mastery of the Elysium Domain grant access to wards and bindings capable of enforcing peace upon limited areas While these cannot be used to protect combattants-such wards are proof even against indiscrimate attacks as long as the peaceful reside within them.

Well, more or less what it says: kind of sort of turtling plan. Guardian instead of Sorcery because critfails are bad and sphere for, probably, defensive battles and so on seems quite useful.

It's not 20.000 years of conditioning though because there aren't many perpetuals around, it's their whole lives of conditioning and that is a thing that happened and still happens in real life, it's horrible and heartbreaking, but it does not excuse crimes, especially not crimes on the scale the Governor has perpetrated.
Yes, you can, you very much can. While I won't attempt to convince you to rethink your beliefs, they are yours after all, cultural conditioning is scary. Done 'right', this kind of thing can really happen on a daily basis. With the Imperium, this kind of thing is likely done since birth. Empathy is an instinct, and can therefore be suppressed. And Imperial conditioning suppresses it hard.
He stares at you, not comprehending your point--goodness, he really doesn't quite get it, does he.

"It can't be that simple, can it?" He whispers.

"It's the simplest thing there is"

"We can't just walk away, can we?"

"Sure you can, you just need to do it."

He hesitates.

Then he lowers his sword.

"... Stand down"
"I am Captain Martin Solheart" Younger than you thought for his rank! "I do not know if I approve of this… Faith." You allow yourself to pout. "But I do know that the Imperium has strayed from the ideals it was founded upon. Your words… Have the ring of truth."

He pauses.

"They will come for you."
I think that this probably helps show what seems to be holding the imperium together.
The interesting thing here is that this seems to clearly show that the main reason the space marines are continuing on is because they never realized they actually had a choice, that they could just not do something was not really considered. Centuries of social enginering and inertia is probably the only real thing holding the imperium together....

Well that and the soul-devouring tyrant upon his throne. Remember he is a god and one almost unfathomably greater than the VM at the moment.

[X] Plan Earth, Sun, and Elysium

Realised i forgot to vote, i REALLY don't want to unlock crit fails for our actions when we need every possible success we can get. Especially when those crit fails can potentially make us look even more like a stereotypical chaos god.

I'd want to wait until we have at least a single domain like Stability, Order, Reliability, Second Chances etc so that we (or some enterprising young cultist experimenting by themself to 'show initiative') have a safety net to help prevent us accidentally creating a festering Hellswamp/Rampant daemonic overgrowth that kills a bunch of people.

We may be a god of the Harvest but its going to be a chore and a half to convince new inductee's (especially if/when we start spreading to other worlds) that no we don't need them to get out the sacrificial knives and start butchering their fellow cultists to summon daemons (incidentally owing to the VM's own comments/stance i'd suggest a flat Veto if we ever have the chance/roll the Sacrifice domain, that seems like it'd change a fundamental part of the VM's character).

I suspect Order is locked down by the golden tyrant and Reliability is not really in the nature of the Warp. Also I think the daemonic swamp is not much of a threat. Daemons in the 40K sense are a rare and dying breed gathered around the remaining Princes and have no reason to congregate around the Maiden or her servants.

Well, I can safely say I was wrong about how loyal and difficult to convince the space marines would be. I was expecting die-hard loyalists, seeing as this was a cult extermination mission, not the response we got. Also, can I just say WHAT THE FUCK IMPERIUM!?!!

I knew things were strained and bad between the Imperium and the Space Marines, but I honestly didn't expect it to have degenerated to this level. Just... what the fuck have they been up to that Space Marines are willing to spare chaos cultists, and don't react with immediate violence to the presence of an obvious warp entity?

  • [X] Plan: Peace, earth, and MAGIC
-[X] Elysium: The power of peace, sanctuary, and safety. Mastery of the Elysium Domain grant access to wards and bindings capable of enforcing peace upon limited areas While these cannot be used to protect combattants-such wards are proof even against indiscrimate attacks as long as the peaceful reside within them.
-[X] Expansion: Select two Associated Domains that you have previously passed up, the safe but boring choice.
--[X] Earth: The power of soil, stone, and everything in between. Mastery of Earth has great benefits in terraforming and drawing forth natural resources, it also augments your Weaving by allowing you to concentrate sufficient nutrients in one place to produce megaflora scale creatures.
--[X] Sorcery: An oldie but a goodie! Sorcery is a mechanism to delegate your own attention down to suitable mortal agents! It allows them to call forth your Daemons, invoke lesser echoes of your own Spheres, and generally is just a really flexible form of power! Of course, Sorcery isn't one hundred percent Reliable, and it doesn't really do anything to expand your abilities as a god in and of itself. Maybe take it now and see about whipping up some kind of neat witchy coven thingie? Or maybe it'd be best to leave it for later once you have more to offer with it. Decisions decision.

Some new plans.

[X] Plan Earth, Sun, and Elysium.
-[X] Earth: The power of soil, stone, and everything in between. Mastery of Earth has great benefits in terraforming and drawing forth natural resources, it also augments your Weaving by allowing you to concentrate sufficient nutrients in one place to produce megaflora scale creatures.

Immediately gives two very powerful and versatile domains and one very interesting and attractive one. Personally I would have picked Sorcery probably and Elysium some time later, but it is popular and I like it too. Helps with short term survival a lot and kickstarts our growth.

[X] Plan Deep Connection and Earth
-[X] Earth: The power of soil, stone, and everything in between. Mastery of Earth has great benefits in terraforming and drawing forth natural resources, it also augments your Weaving by allowing you to concentrate sufficient nutrients in one place to produce megaflora scale creatures.
-[X] Elevation: Elevates an Associated Domain to a Core Domain. That Domain is invoked for free on every action that it applies to. On the other hand, actions that it does not apply to will have the Maiden crowbar it in somehow, which can have hilarious and sometimes tragic consequences.
--[X] Connection

Connection is a very versatile and powerful domain with very few downsides I think.

To be fair they only talked once the VM had them at her mercy, she could have simply reaped them into oblivion. These are marines who saw her extinguish their blessed flamers and yet still gave them a way out, no strings attached, no pacts just 'leave in peace'.

The very system installed to prevent a repeat of the Horus heresy might be one of only things preventing an outright rebellion, which is outright implied in the intro...
Hope perhaps may have been found in the form of the Space Marines, but the twofold trap of the Chapter system discouraging coordination, and their genuine need to serve as a bulwark against alien aggression have stayed their hands. The few who protested were overcome by their peers or strangled by denial of much needed supply and expertise. The rest stoically accept the new lot and attempt to secure their homeworlds at least. Perhaps it will be enough.

My Daemon idea
(Yes it is very heavily inspired by the Pokemon Riolu)

Domains:Elysium, Guardian, Sorcery
The idea is the daemon would be a protector, that seeks to guard those who are too weak to protect themselves, regardless of who they are, and would have an internal code that it/he/she follows.

SPECIAL OFFER

From now until the formal start of Chapter 2, I'll be taking submissions for your Lesser Daemon variety. I have a default in mind but others might come up with something even more interesting.

The following criteria must be followed.

A) The daemon must be superficially humanoid, but not necessary a human (Bipedal with a recognizable face).
B) The Daemon must embody at least three of your Domains--you may include the one you're definitely picking up as this.

The Verdant Gnomes

Associated Domains: Life, Endurance, Harvest.

Short, stocky, green, gnome-like creatures with adorable hats and tiny sickles, they love to help out, whether it's with bringing in the crops, healing the sick, or seeing off predators or raiders. They are dauntless in the face of hardship, and the sight of them brings joy and hope to the faithful, staving off the encroachment of despair.

They are tiny, but fierce!

Help restore Dana's relationship with her family (SECONDARY)
Study the captured vessel (SECONDARY)
Gain Access to Space (SECONDARY)
Achieve all goals with less than one million fatalities (SECONDARY)

We know that we get our extra domain picks from fulfilling secondary objectives.
So, looking back, my guesses:
Relationship - Love (confirmed by Alectai, failed)
Study - Sun?
Space - ? (Failed? Not rolled?)
under million fatalities - Elysium?

THIS! So much this. We've gotten in trouble for doing the stereotypical chaos cult ramp-up stuff. We can wait a bit longer for sorcery and its crit fails.

I am open to the notion of holding off on sorcery for a bit longer on the grounds that we don't want to be too Chaotic, but I would remind you that there's no guarantee we get Sorcery offered as one of our standard "level up" Domains. We can only guarantee we get it by taking an Expansion action.

That said, I will approval vote another option.
[X] Plan Earth, Sun, and Elysium

Right time to compile all the various image suggestions I found that could work for our hypothetical Daemons
As a side note I really want to get that Guardian Domain at some point, it'd probably mesh with our Daemons really well
