It might be an idea to start brainstorming what Mathilde would do if she had a shitload of Runesmith Favour to burn.
For the sake of argument, all.
The machinations of the Asp are made known once again!

More seriously, perhaps some limited instruction on Runes?

I like the runed dragon armor idea. Both to reinforce whoever gets turned into a dragon, and possibly as a present to the Ice Dragon.
I'm not sure the latter would fly, for as long as the Dragon remains apart from the Karak. No sense in making your enemy stronger or harder to kill, after all.

The first thing that comes to mind is knowledge, depending on what they are willing to part with. Nothing that is necessarily specific to runes, but their knowledge of how the world works would be incredibly useful for our future ambitions.

Any leftover knowledge or artifacts from their collaboration with the elves would also be something we may want.

Even if they were willing - and they're not - Mathilde's nature makes it impossible for her to be a Runesmith.

Oh boy.

AV was... Something of a big deal, huh?

Honestly, I'm not even sure what would be appropriate, exotic materials maybe? Access to the reagent trade for our own projects? The Runesmith network's probably got that shit up in lock, and a great material for our staff might be the ideal.

Yeah, honestly, I'm thinking the best bet in this case would just be reagents and materials. We've almost got all the pieces to really get our enchantment engine up and running, and getting hooked up with the supply network of the best enchanters in the setting seems like it'd be a good move.

Maybe a treaty permitting the Grey Order as an institution the right to purchase Runic equipment? An alliance between the Grey College and the runesmiths?

Basically, take @Alectai 's idea and extend it to the entirety of the Grey College, where the Guild of Runesmiths and the Grey College declares an alliance, which allows Grey Wizards to forge contacts with Runesmiths easier, access the reagent network of the Runesmith Guild, offer their services to willing Runesmiths as Ulgu is the wind of secrecy, and have the right to request commissions for Runesmith for an appropriate amount of favor/gold, depending on how trusted a Grey Wizard is in the Karaz Ankor.

The Longshanks are part of the Cult of Taal and Rhya. Those lions aren't trained, they're bonded to someone who has befriended them using the Divine Magic of Taal, King of Beasts. You'd have to look to Chrace or the Ogre Kingdoms for trained battle kitties, both of which are likely to prove tricky.
The picture was more to show that lions exist in the Old World, either native to the Empire or imported from somewhere. If I had to guess if they were imported, it'd be from either Araby or the Southlands given where lions are normally found on Earth. But I have to say I didn't know the Ogre Kingdoms had war cats until you mentioned them now, so thanks for that.

Maybe aid in making our staff? We've seen a collaboration with our tower and it may turn out something powerful.

For a quality of life improvement see if any of them remember the rune that works like a lightbulb? With the smoke attracting arcane mark may be nice to light up our quarters with them instead of fire. Otherwise help setting up some Oh Dear rooms for all eight collages? Would be of genuine to them all while allowing us to act smug over the other wizards.

The big help honestly would just be getting dwarfen material tolerances and maybe access to a suitable staff making material. The actual enchanting work is largely going to have to be done by Mathilde

Araby. The Order of the Golden Lion got their name from killing one while they were there. And yeah, the Ogres have Sabretusks.

How about Runesmith aid in increasing AV juice production?

A massive, runed array of precision mirrors. A big search for someone who's being haunted by an Asp. Maybe figuring out how to transplant our demon.

The mirrors aren't the bottleneck, and it would be risky to try to transfer the one you've got out of his current residence.

Is it possible to use our favor to arrange for an alliance between the wider Grey College (as we are a member of this manling "guild"), and the Runesmith Guild, or at least the beginnings of one? For example, the Grey College as an institution gains the right to participate within the Runesmith favor system of the Karaz Ankor?

Hmmm... Dragon bones seem like the kind of thing runesmiths would hoard for runecraft. I don't suppose the runesmiths have a dragon bone or two to spare for staff making?

It would be possible to use it to open negotiations for it.

Maybe ask for help reverse-engineering the Waystone network? We know that that portions of it were partly runic.

Assuming you end up doing so on Belegar's orders, you don't need to spend your own favours to get Runesmith cooperation.

Would learning Arcane Dwarf/Runelord Khazalid similarly be out of the question? On the language chart, it's only one step from Old One, just like Anquoyan (sp), as a Language of True Magic or whatever.

You know I was gonna suggest "Hey maybe we can get an item loaded up with an Ancestor Rune?" but looking at them they're kind of weak. 2D6 Strength 4 hits is the same as an unboosted Fireball and the only difference between the Ancestor Rune of Valaya and an unboosted Regrowth is the granting of Unbreakable. We're better off trading in the runesmith favour for more college favour.

...Hmmm.
Can I just say that I absolutely love the implications here of us somehow belonging to Kragg, like some sort of pet or something? And Panoramia getting Thorek to do the same. I can just see it now, this will start a whole new trend of Runelords taking in pet wizards to help them make more sense of the crazy Zhuf logic their enemies use and make magical superweapons.
Anyone hear that ringing?
