It was a strange technique, and one which showed her more than others that in the completed combat form of the art, each King was more a component of a line in a more complex dance. The darting carp were not creatures of power but fright, she sent them out in panicking schools, where they would swarm and obscure the motions of others. Empty and blown up with the phantom of threat, to trigger defenses, trip ambushes, and take attention and blows. This was their basic function

As the stupid, prideful River God, least descendant of dragons, was cajoled and flattered into fulfilling the Spider Gods schemes.

It was very much not in her usual style, but there was definitely something to be said of 'scouting in force'.
...summon Bait Fish?

Right now this is a trade of time (of which we have extra, but a finite amount) and possible additional damage to the ecosystem for extra safety going forwards.

I don't think we need it. I don't really want to risk damaging the ecosystem (we'll want to clean it up and strengthen it once the primary threat is handled) and I suspect that we'll be able to use that time in other useful ways later on. This is not going to be our last opportunity to trade time for something that we want.

If I thought this was going to be a high-risk adventure, it would be different, but all the signs we've seen tell us that it isn't. As such, choosign the higher-risk, higher-reward play just makes good sense.

We can talk with the Piper later, when we can take the time to wake them more gently, and with less likelihood of causing harm.

go big or go home, hoping we get a cooler thing to spend our time on later and that we can help out the Piper on the return

Detouring might just mean doing more damage to controlled guardians and creatures of the natural ecosystem down here. But then, plunging right ahead could be risky.
I'd want to talk to the Piper, but not if, as the quote suggests, it might get them damaged. We can handle this situation, no need to risk the local spirits.

I'd rather not risk further damage.
