I'm not happy about it. Dispersion has clearly superior vibes. But it's undeniable that Grounding works better for LQ's responsibilities, and it's better suited for finding a place in the narrative.

Not everyone needs to get involved with that though, which is the issue. It's about removing friction, but that doesn't mean that it's everyone's responsibility to be a spirit speaker--that way leads only to pain.
This is not "What is Ling Qi's approach to everything", this is "What does Ling Qi do when presented with a hostile environment to talk with someone." Dispersion raises the ceiling on the kinds of environmental stuff she can diffuse, but in exchange, it guarantees at least some impact.
But this isn't about "What Ling Qi does for her people." This is "How does Ling Qi handle spirit interactions for people other than herself." In that sense. "Be able to ensure that she doesn't need to keep everyone close to keep them intact so she can chat the spirit up." Is the better play, in my opinion.

I also worry a little about the motivation for people to vote on finishing this art. We'll probably need to cheat with omake to close it up as it is, and if its effects keep being as invisible as they've been so far, getting it done will be very hard to argue for because peoples won't notice when it's used.
It just occurred to me that Dispersion is kind of contrary to Ling Qi's chosen Protection concept. She said the nature of Protection is to preserve the Choice of those under her charge. But Dispersion is a deliberate sort of high-minded decision on Ling Qi's part to let hostile environments leak through and affect those charges "for their own good" or some similar construction of justification.
Why should those under her protection suffer for her ideals in spirit communication simply because they're there? That's no real Choice. It doesn't vibe.
And before anyone complains, Raising the Bastion gives Community and Protection exp. It's 100% relevant to the subject.
Edit: like, it was only 3 updates ago or something. Ridiculous levels of straying if we go with Dispersion, which also doesn't fit that well with the plans for the art Ling Qi spelled out literally last update. I'm begging y'all for some continuity of thought.
