Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
If this had been the literal first we'd heard of Lilling in months, I'd say Rong's doomed.

Knowing what we do though, I'm not sure if he is or not.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I am very scared.

The Butcher king is coming south. I really hope he doesn't go far enough south to fuck with the White Sky. Expanding the Jungle into the wall is scary, but I can't imagine the crone taking expansion past that too kindly. (Eternal winter isn't good for a Jungle.) Hopefully 12 stars at least has more to worry about. Either way I'm scared.

I really want to speak to Ji Rong about what happened to Sun Liling. It's almost like something else is walking around in her skin.

Sun Shao going on a walk is either a serious flex or baiting his enemies into losing a hit squad through death-by-jungle, or both.

I feel sort of bad for our foes, some of which barely even seem to understand how the Empire's military works and definitely won't expect a second White (and ecological disaster) hitting them from behind.
Meh.
[] Soil Studies (+10 bonus development rolls in fief)
Fantastic! I hope Zhengui will like it, and I'm hyped for big crop yields once we get there.
[] Rare reagents (Begin Forgotten Elixir Quest, complete Part 1 of 4 immediately)
On the other hand, starting the Elixir Quest is IMO a good decision - and it'll be good for RR readers who aren't regularly reminded about the elixir's existence (giving it a callback in this chapter was already a good decision, but I think we should go further by making some progress on it every few IRL months).
[] Insight Sharing (+1 Isolation and Ending XP)
I really, really want to read the insight sharing. Narratively that sounds great.

Personally i dont think we need the green stones. They're nice but the other 3 seem like things that cant be bought with just stones.
I think id prefer either
[] Soil Studies (+10 bonus development rolls in fief)

I'm assuming the forgotten elixir quest is the cyan breakthrough drug recipe we found in that storage ring which is definitely something we want and having a good fief will be important
Though I would really mind if the xp one won

The Third Sky is the first whose name is not sealed. Mighty Balamber, Lord of Summer, who faced the bloodtide in the west, stirred to madness by the lowlander kings. It was he who met the Red Jungle in war and enforced the Compact of the Crimson Noon.

Hrm... I wonder if Sun Shao is bound by this Compact. He may not be if he intends to subjugate the mountains. And in any case, the 12 Stars Confederation doesn't quite have the Sky to enforce this Compact (although they may get there by throwing prisms at Sun Shao). But Sun Shao's Way seems to get stronger by munching on things...

[] 200 Green Stones

wantttt.

But, overall I'm leaning towards Soil Studies - the rest we can grind or quest for, and have a worthwhile time as players, but Soil studies is a modifier to dice rolls.

That's just placing your finger on the scales, and we can't do that via grinding

ohhhh fight between jungle lady and tundra lady!….

inb4 it later devolves to become to be fighting over the guy

I wonder if Sun Shao could be counting on them fighting and that distracting or weakening the spirit of the jungle so he can rebuild his family while it's focused elsewhere, and he's sacrificed his granddaughter to buy the time to do this.

Sun Liling nodded cheerfully. "Other thing's a bit bigger. I need you to pass a message to your Mother. Gramps has decided, since we're all doing this imperial unity thing, he's gonna head south too, clear out our bits of the mountains! So, he's gonna be coming to meet the Duchess so they can talk coordination, yeah? Don't want to step on each other's toes!"

Silence hung in the air at her declaration, and Ling Qi glanced at Gan Guangli, who seemed bewildered too. The less said for Bai Meizhen and the other Bai the better.

"If that is King Sun's wish, I am certain mother will prepare to receive his simulacrum," Cai Renxiang replied, barely missing a beat. It is good to see such cooperation."

"Nah, he's gonna have his alternates overseeing the muster. General Lu's got that mostly in hand. He'll be coming in person. Ask your mother to open a line so we can figure out the date, yeah?" Sun Liling said.
....O-oh, we're gonna be joined by the Sun delegation, I guess. Every meeting with Liling is gonna be super awkward and unsettling.

Also Sun Shao is a very scary dude especially now that he decided to go out of his territory.

Insight sharing would be my main go to.
But starting a quest would be nice a well.

The ice spirits are already busy fighting star guys. On the other hand, I think they are spirits of higher level than the sunflower. So wonder how will it play out

If fight between jungle and tundra endangers the fight against stars, the moon and sun might join in northern parts of the jungle. Which really worries me.

That was unsettling. Poor Liling, it's worse than I hoped though can't say I'm surprised. Can't tell if this is a personality rewrite on the part of the Sunflower Goddess or Lilings attempt at coping or something else. Hopefully we can chat with Ji Rong at some point and tease and get a hint more context.

Wonder what Sun Shao is up to. First thought is he's going after his bordering Cloud Tribes for sacrifices to the Sunflower, but that doesn't explain the intimidation of showing up in person to Shenhua. Hopefully this isn't a crazy alpha strike to try and take out the primary Bai aligned white before moving onto the Bai after, it would be a stupid ass idea but Sun Shao has not proved to have the bets decision making. I'm sure smarter people than me will shortly come up with better theories.

If nothing else, Sun Shao is no longer tied to the jungle. He's an active white who can now force project. That makes him a lot scarier as an opponent if he can take the fight to you rather than sit in his jungle fortress.

I am not inclined to take a +10 to rolls because that's so swingy. Could matter, could make no difference at all. Better a bird in the hand and all that.

[] Rare reagents (Begin Forgotten Elixir Quest, complete Part 1 of 4 immediately)

I'm thinking this. It's a quest we'd eventually do anyway, and getting it 1/4 done, bam, just like that is a major boon.

Killing a white when he is far from the sunflower jungles in her home turf is probably beyond even the butcher king.
