We know barely anything about the Jin, and this is a good opportunity. More importantly, this also lets us learn more about the Xuan, and therefore Xuan Shi's general context of, well, being. We've been learning more about him as an individual, but we haven't had the clearest picture of how that individual emerges from the tapestry of the clan. Because the clan is a vague thing to us.
Having even a brief outline of the political landscape involving the Jin and Xuan feels important as we move forward with our own political project. The two don't directly impact each other, but echoes from one could carry broader influences. Especially if we recruit Xuan Shi to our project, which seems like it should be easier if we understand the background political noise he comes from.

He does not make them, or even understand their construction, but with his clan being the fortress builders, he understands the use of formations on the battlefield, and can at the very least keep up when talking about the deployment of formations.
