This is the only time we will get to see Gan Guangli work with his trainees but it is also the only time we get to talk about Xiao Fen in front of Meizhen and the Bai delegation. Talking up Fenfen to the Bai sounds like a lot of fun and gives us insight into her status and the Bai's opinion of Meizhen and her, and then we can focus on Gan further into the tournament when he is in a more meaningful fight against the characters from last year for his right to retainership. We only get so many scenes and this is the best Xiao Fen will get while Gan Guangli has his most important ahead of him.
It's interesting what Ling Qi said about the Shishigui being disunited facing an united power. I don't know if that's really true but it doesn't matter. Considering the Emerald Sea's history as a divided realm fighting itself for thousands of years before Ogodei and the following Cloud Nomad invasions revealed the vulnerabilities of that, leading to the rise of Cai and fall of Hui as the province now experiences a shift towards solidarity. That narrative, that the Emerald Seas will defeat this threat because of its unity works perfectly to the Cai's ideology, having adopted what made Ogodei a threat and what eventually defeated him for all of the province.

I mean, I doubt it'll be as awesome as Meizhen VS Lilin, but it's been a while since we properly saw a Bai fight and I'm curious about how our honorary Junior Sister will do.

Remember that the group preliminaries are where GG should thrive. This is his specialty. He is a commander and in any other fights we see with him we won't be able to see the inspirational commander that he is trying to be. I love Xiao Fen but we can easily watch one of her solo fights and probably see more of what she can do because she'll start using trump cards. This is the only fight where GG can actually show his commander chops and redeem himself for his loss in his last preliminaries.
Honestly, I agree. But the fight is only half the scene. We'll be sitting there with a White Bai judging how Meizhen has instructed her handmaiden, a Xiao judging Xiao Fen's performance, Bai Suzhen's husband judging her niece's progress as well as Meizhen herself as Ling Qi gets to talk about Xiao Fen and their time together. That'd be focusing on Gan Guangli while we have one chance to see how all these people and institutions feel which is world building, character building and fun fluff all together. This is our chance to get our training with Xiao Fen a good narrative ending. Gan Guangli's problem last year was that he was too focused on training others to be a paragon himself so what we need to see is his standing strong alone, which comes later.
