Yea I almost called it gallows humor as even outside the Bai culture there is an expectation that a captain of the guard give their life to protect their leader if need be, which given there isn't any issue of Bai killing other Bai from what we know... has lovely things to say of his odds of survival given the good odds of a Bai civil war.

Also given the traditionalist faction is strong among the Red alongside the Green it seems likely his position as Captain of the Guard while not unprecedented might be trying to gather support among the Red caste by promoting somebody rather talented. Because if we weren't talking about the Bai it wouldn't be a shock for a very successful guard captain to the adopted daughter of the newly ascended white to go from CoG to a General as his duties require an ever increasing number of soldiers to keep his charge from being forced into battle by their opposition.

It is important to remember that the Bai operate under a strict caste system - speaking to a red caste over a violet caste is likely a social mis-step of a significant nature. There is also the fact that we have a stronger common topic with Bai Xia Anxi than Bai Lao Keung, but in the future we could add him in to Wang's fight club which is an easier route to increasing his social link, than Bai Xia Anxi offers.

Ok, so I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but does anyone else think the Bai might be, on occasion... a tiny bit less friendly than they could be? Like, I'm sure they're lovely overall. But maybe not all the time?

I can go with either, though as the red python will be joining us longer term as Meizhens guard, we might expect further opportunities with him later down the road which isn't necessarily true of Anxi.

Point of order, we wouldn't be speaking to one over the other, we'd merely be speaking about a particular topic in such a way that it may prove more interesting to one or the other, but that's like, their opinion man.

Listen, Xia Anxi, I love you, but we already have a smart mouthed scholarly twink and he's way cuter than you. Like, did you see him try to cheer Qi up when she was down about her shitty Weilu ancestor? We're the fucking music of this outfit so get off our turf. Also I want to see more of Astronomer Wu and maybe for Wu Jing to give us the shit talking we deserve again. The more twinks the better but I'm going to have to go with the hunk on this one. We need some eye candy in Meizhen's retinue that isn't, you know, us.
