Now that I know she has an important position I completely lost any sympathy I had for her, If her first reaction to a new baron trying to setup an event that helps her being sabotaged is jumping down their throat and questionning their integrity, how the hell did she get so high in the clergy ?
Nepotism.

edit-
To expound on that.
It does not really matter how talented, smart or wise the priest of a temple like this is, the main qualification will almost always be who they are related to or patronized by.
And as long as the regular clergy are not by and large complete morons, you can get away with extremely mediocre head priest as long as nothing goes wrong (like, say, winters suddenly getting lot harsher than usual).

So our next stop on the tour is a town in the same region yes? Or is it just in the same province?

Maybe I understood something wrong, but the clergy practices peak-flavored spirit ken, while Ling Qi has more spirit talker-flavored spirit ken, right? Won't the clergy dislike Ling Qi anyway if she starts negotiating with the spirits in her future barony instead of bribing/beating them?

Spirits do talk with each other and while it won't make much of a difference to the big, venerated spirits, it will be a difference for the smaller ones that get beaten into submission with peak-flavored spirit ken. It feels to me like there will be trouble no matter what we do.

We've talked about or done enough weird spirit interactions with other people (such as having Hanyi) that it's probably not that hard to learn about Ling Qi's spirit ken.
If Chao Yanlin's opinion on Hanyi is any indication, then no. She apparently expected a standard peak-flavored spirit interaction, aka either be submissive or boss them around. I think she went with the dominant approach because to her, Hanyi is a spirit bound to a cultivator that is stronger than the spirit.

I think clergy approach might depend on area.
Weilu traditionalist temple will be different from imperial conservative.

[X] Encourage Hanyi to take up the missing part and help her with the prep (60% success. Improved relationship with clergy on success. Growth for Hanyi on Success. Negative relations with clergy and Nobles on Failure. Happier Hanyi on success.)

[X] Let Hanyi perform with the current choreography. Make sure this Stream doesn't cause trouble personally. (100% Success, +1 Power Success, ??? consequences. Reduced Clergy Reputation.)

Well, she doesn't believe it's sabotage. Or at least that we're being sabotaged. It's not surprising that somebody coming along and rubbing weird approaches to spirit handling in her face wouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt. Hanyi's weird, making her the centerpiece of entreating spirits on the behalf of human settlements is weird. It makes sense for Chao Yanlin to harbor suspicion towards the performance as a whole, and that's a framework that lends itself towards suspicion of us when things go wrong.

Hm. Look at it this way. A decent minority of posters in the thread have expressed suspicion of Chao Yanlin herself. Considering what she has at stake to lose, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But she's being difficult/rude/suspicious with Hanyi and us. Human nature (and popular middling-quality writing tropes) conditions us to suspect darker motives in people we're in friction with. The entire performance's existence has friction with Yanlin's status quo; even though we clearly have a lot to lose from the performance going wrong, her instinct is to focus her suspicion on the troublemaker out in the open for her to see. And Yanlin has waaay more emotional investment in the temple's operation than we do in the thread, which amplifies things.

In conclusion, Chao Yanlin is a land of contrasts.

Chao Yanlin has a lot of reasons to be annoyed at us, both justified and not. For one thing this is likely a pretty big deal so she's likely a little exhausted from having to prepare for it. Add in some culture clash with Hanyi/Qi and this was always going to be tense even if everything went exactly according to plan.

And, of course, things are not going according to plan.

Here we are taking up the burden of doing the work again.

I thought we already agreed to spread the burden when we had to agree to that fungus ripping Zhengui's dreaming garden?

I find this a really interesting take because Hanyi is doing her part. She practiced and trained for a specific dance and it's not her fault that we were given misinformation. So Ling Qi is ensuring that the miscommunication doesn't effect Hanyi's performance. We are not bearing the full load of this. We are not doing "the work" again.

Here we are helping out Hanyi with her problems - without wishing to upstage her. We are acting in a supporting role here and thus this is not a case of us doing everything, but us enabling others to do their work. The issue with the second option is that it involves pushing Hanyi beyond what she is comfortable with.

I get people wanted to try for the jackpot, i really do.
My first instinct was to roll the dice myself.
But some of the takes on the option that won from people who did not want it are somewhat overblown to put it politely.

We are not trampling on Hanyi, we are not doing all the work, we are not blowing up the river or flooding the fields.
What we are doing is pissing of the clergy, which is not great, but it is better than pissing of the nobles and the clergy which would happen if we failed.
Now what the ??? is remains to be seen, could be negative, could be positive, could be little bit of both.

And, for that matter, everything Zhengui says should be taken with a grain of salt.

My read is more just that Zhengui would prefer that he gets hurt rather than mommy. They're basically just fighting over who takes the arrow for the team because neither likes to see their friends and family get hurt.

this is someone playing political games either against the clergy or against Cai and Ling is jsut stuck in the middle.
Thinking about it, it could be someone playing political games aimed at or involving particular spirits, rather than the priesthood or the Cai. E. g., this particular spirit's displeasure might show up in predictable ways, and someone wants to take advantage of that.

It would be an unwise decision to bring the Cai into a local conflict that way, but sometimes people are stupid.

Finished recently forge of destiny, and started threads of destiny, I just seen the dream vision/fight with the ghost of the white cultivator that had his hand eaten by our dress with the bloody moon.

And I thought of something, is there an actual point to trying to ascend past white, people in the comment said that by doing so, you stop being a character, so my question is why, why go past white and not try to find something more similar to becoming a sublime ancestor, those at least can help their descendants.
