Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Also, we've picked up the Causality Concept.

I'm sure that'll be interesting to explore when we have the time.
When we have the time to mess with causality you say? I hope that was an intentional near pun.

Onto my actual point does anyone know how much dabbling in time related arts is actually possible? If it's fairly uncommon because of the risk involved then that sounds super LQ to me. Like it would be something she picks up to get a way to cultivate longer and do more drugs in her day to day life, but then uses as a sort of precognition in both martial and social combat.

Kinda scary that he picked up on Ling Qi's concepts like that, and is using them to tempt her into returning. Continuing to interact with this guy is dangerous. Ling Qi isn't exactly one to shy away from danger in the name of cultivation though, and the old skeleton is certainly interesting. Ling Qi is probably going to prove him right.

Also, if he is in fact referring to LQ's minor Weilu heritage, that would be an excellent narrative follow-up to the Tapestry choice. He might be talking about the domain weapon though.

So fucking cool.

And in the interest of saying something mildly productive: I really liked this dream mini-turn, and I'm going to be voting for it again when we have the chance.

Probably would need to be better at the Dreamwalking before visiting the Gramps, so might want to visit other Dream spots first.

Yeah, Sixiang going on that Eagle was also my first thought to what those new abilities could be used for. Figures that it is too rigid as it is now though.

I feel like going all-in on Bonedaddy might cause some issues with pursuing Want/Power as ends unto themselves, or something else similarly unwholesome, but I'm happy to barter with him in moderation.

Just have to make sure we pad out our schedules with less edgy activities too. Maybe we can take Xuan Shi to that revel we were talking about before we go back, show Sixiang that we are theoretically capable of having fun before taking them back to the extremely spooky skeleton man that they're super uncomfortable with.

"Honored Elder, you are mistaken," Ling Qi ground out through grit teeth, feeling the strain of holding her blade in place, humming in the air between them. "I only took the gifts freely offered, I am not your blood."

The worst thing somehow was that she could feel the futility of her effort. She could feel the strength of the thing, if it exerted itself just a little more she knew, it would have her blade.

"Liar," its voice was scolding but fond. "But what thief does not lie."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most of Emerald Seas has at least a little bit of Weilu blood
And it seems, regardless of what a spiteful sassy sackcloth thinks, we're considered of the blood by one that clearly is.
The festival we were just at was described as one being held due to it being the time to have that festival. The Diviner was notable for their works of weather manipulation, agriculture and divination. All of these things occur over time. You could even say they all have to do with taking the path you want to be taking, as time marches ever forward.
The more we learn about the Weilu the more I feel they grappled with existential questions in a way that wasn't done by the main lines of other clans. This update made me want to ask the question:
Is it selfish to exist?
That seems like it'd be a silly question to propose to a Bai or Zheng, who justify their own existences readily. The Weilu were unique in that they were forced to be a Ducal of a self sufficient and unconquered region. Eventually they unified as a clan, but was all that kinslaying worth that end?
If the action of taking a timeline for yourself based on your own want is one way to describe existence. Does that mean it's selfish to exist?
One answer is that yes it's selfish, and aestheticism should be pursued in order to minimize the impact of your selfish existence on the world. This could be the origin philosophy of the Ascetic Dream Cults which rose to prominence towards the back-end of the rule of the Weilu.
Achieving an ascetic ideal so perfect you cease taking a timeline for yourself could be a way for the Weilu to disappear without leaving corpses behind.
Another answer is that yes it's selfish, and so what? It's okay to be selfish, because existence itself is selfish. Selfishness is excusable because it's built into the system. This could be the origin philosophy of the Black Lotus Dream Cults which were prominent after the fading of the Ascetic Cults and especially prominent during the reign of the hedonistic Hui. This could explain the terminal fault line in the Hui's belief system, as one's desires alone do not make a family functioning province.
More answers ever means more questions, until one accepts stagnation and becomes complacent :)
So, on picking up grandpa skelly as a sort of family- what would the rest of our family think?
My bet is he gets along best with our little sister. I don't think our spirits would like him, any of them, and our mom would prob faint on introduction. I bet our new adoptee would be intrigued though.
Active Abilities
Chaos Phase (10):
Technique Type: Dispel
Drunkenness is the closest mortals may come to the realm of Dream in the waking world, and among the earliest cults of man were those of brewing, who made the elixirs to achieve that holy state. The muse may induce this in foes and even the patterns of arts, disrupting concentration and the continuance of techniques.
Lunatic Stirring (10):
Technique Type: Summon, Empowerment
To manifest fully in the physical world is difficult for a muse, yet Sixiang has managed it. Yet they are still not of this realm. Where Sixiang manifests the effect of their Chaos Locus traits intensify, and the effects of Dream and Chaos techniques grow stronger.
Whirlwind Revel (9):
Technique Type: Bind
While manifested, Sixiang can grasp an enemy and whirl them away briefly into the liminal realm, trapping them for a time.
Ahh so are the abilities that Six had before, Cheerful Muse's Accompaniment and Laughing Moonlit Maiden gone then? All her other abilities seem to overlap with her new passive or active abilities--except these two. I'm just wondering if they're getting left out or not.
She felt a longing in her heart, to stop and observe, to listen to poetry and song, to drink from their cups. To belong here safe and content.
Interesting, she associates the revelry with community and safety concepts.
Ling Qi twisted the handle and stepped through just as a keening wail began to rise from a hundred throats, dragging 'Sixiang' through the darkened portal after her. The door slammed shut behind them and there was silence.
...so I'd guess the revel and the prison are linked closely enough that we're probably not welcome back at this party if they recognized who slipped through.
Dreaming Masque (G) 1: Born from dream and thought it is not such a stepto leap from one vessel to another, if only temporarily. Sixiang may seize control of summoned constructs and even lesser spirits, layering themself over it like a mask. Theoretically possible to do to a human as well though difficult.
This sounds like a horrifying ambush method to have your construct or spirit hijacked mid combat and not realize it.
Though Sixiang doesn't have a lot of offense other than using it to surprise-yeet them into the Liminal.
Painter of Winds (G) 3: Air and light are funny things, and by wielding wind you may twist light, though its order is forever beyond your reach. By holding the air in your hands and molding it like clay you may carry or muffle the voices of the world. The wind is a canvas and you its painter.
Minor, interesting factoid, though we knew that from Renxiang, it seems to be more than just her family style. Light is a subsidiary of Order.
And now speculating on using that to bend or focus Light based techniques. Or maybe other types too.
Wind could be used to lens fire, sound or even electricity.
Causality Concept advanced to I
1/ 2 till next level
Action precedes reaction. Time flows forward, ever forward.
Wonder if growth on this would build on exploiting the rules of causality or do the wiggly "but not always" approach.
"How greedy," whispered the skeleton not seeming angered by the interference. "You deny a lonely elder their first company in an age?"
"If she doesn't want to be here you bet I do,"
Sixiang's words no longer came from their lips but rather on the sounds of increasingly violent tide.
"Thank you Sixiang," Ling Qi said with a wince, laying a hand on the muse's shoulder. "Honored Elder, unfortunately I cannot stay. I have many obligations."
"Young, so young. So much remains to be seen, to be taken," the voice crooned. "Go, and come visit again. Bring with you your tales, and let us share as one thief to another."
The grip vanished, and Ling Qi nearly stumbled, staring at the skeleton warily. "Why do you trust that I would come back?"
"Ling Qi don't question the thing," Sixiang hissed in alarm.
Somehow the thorny vines framing fleshless jaws seemed to convey a smile. "Curiosity, Want, Power."
So what I'm taking from this is mainly that Skeleton Lord here is incredibly bored, sealed in. He'd take more if he could, but what he wants to take now is something we can give without losing - stories.
And in return we get stories too.
Got to be careful though, because he sounds like he's utterly up for straight kidnapping Qi forever if we'd let him.
I kinda just assumed that those abilities got subsumed into their traits
Curiosity sated, for now.
Yeah, I agree we should visit him sparingly, and definitely up both our spiritual and social defenses before the next time. Though, I kind of doubt bastion would work on them..... Worth a shot anyway.
Kind of glad freedom route won at the beast choice now.
Curious if any revelers will recognize us at the moon party?
Don't be a baby Sixiang," Ling Qi replied absently, taking the first step down. They were wide and shallow, but surprisingly dry despite the moisture in the air. "Although… are we descending into a nightmare?"
Sixiang was quiet for a long moment as they descended. "You know I'm not sure, but…"
"Don't be a baby Sixiang," Ling Qi replied absently, taking the first step down. Something twisted in her gut, and she felt intense nausea. They were wide and shallow, but surprisingly dry despite the moisture in the air. How many times had she taken the first step?
"Don't be a baby Sixiang," Ling Qi replied absently, taking the first step down. Ling Qi felt her temples throb and on her shoulder Sixiang hissed in pain.
"Don't-" Ling Qi shut her mouth, nearly biting her tongue as she focused hard and leapt off the first step. On her shoulder, Sixiang's qi rippled out chaotic and disruptive.
So did anybody else almost @ Yrs in what was at first seem like mistaken repeated paragraphs :V
