Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Is there an important milestone at G5 for us? I don't remember.
Mmm, not really?

It's basically the last of the "easy" stages to get - G6 needs 3 advanced insights and a for us to make and cap a successor art. Most of our arts will be mastered in G5 - only SSC and LFWT go into G6. So we'll probably have to spend a bunch of time really refining our arts and working on successors in G5, and that will take up a lot of our time.

It would be kinda tactless to take someone to the place of their Heroes death without warning them first. I think we are beyond that at this point.

I mean, that's kind of hard really. Barring Meizhen hitting a block, the only way that can really happen is that with enough time the advantage of a month or two she holds stops being significant.

If we make the assumption that heart demons are often caused by situations that break a cultivator's assumptions about the world (thus bringing previously harmonious insights into conflict) then the main obstacle to Meizhen's cultivation right now is probably accepting that she's being protected and that the Bai might also be a source of safety in addition to danger. Meanwhile CRX is having to deal with the realization that her mother is not perfect.

Obviously its hard to tell how much someone is struggling from the outside but CRX seems like she's having the foundation of her entire world shift under her feet and Meizhen isn't (that was Lakegate). As such I would expect CRX to be falling behind Meizhen right now, even if they would be cultivating just as quickly if they had similar talent and resources available to them. I'm also under the impression that Meizhen is more talented than CRX, making it even more likely that Meizhen would pull ahead of her.

For whatever its worth, this model of heart demons suggests that Ling QI is having difficulty with the idea of a family that is going to stay together and not abandon her or vice versa.

[] Treat the destination as a surprise. (More chance to speak with Xuan Shi about other things. More engaging conversation for Ling Qi)
[] Tell him right away where you intend to take him (Get your ear talked off by a fan, learn more about Xuan Shi personally.)
I feel like either of these would enhance the other, and they're both essentially, well, essential. If we knew him better, we'd be able to have more mutually engaging conversations on more things. If we conversed with him on more things more often, we'd know him better.

[] Treat the destination as a surprise. (More chance to speak with Xuan Shi about other things. More engaging conversation for Ling Qi)
Talking about more things is appealing because, whatever the vote options say, it offers a broader look and sampling of interaction with his character. I'm kind of stalling out on specific topics that would be interesting to discuss though. They exist, but a number of subjects might be ill-timed. Let's look at some:

-Zhengui (for the love of god, please not again)
-His take on/projects relating to the war efforts (solid, sensible, interesting)
-What's up with the Xuan lately (interesting, but does it matter? I'd be glad to see the plot thread resurrected, but it needs followup this time and we're set to be distracted in the guts of a different foreign policy commitment)
-His hanging out with Su Ling and Li Suyin (I'd rather see this than hear about it)
-Diplomacy with the White Sky (it makes sense to discuss it with him since we picked his brain for advice before going on the mission, but in terms of pacing now might not be the best opportunity. Fits better during/after poking the sword, arguably)
-Shop talk on formations (we are training it this month, but the subject is very  until @yrsillar introduces a context where we can actually engage with the subject. Constructs/wards/crafting are boring, difficult to organize mechanically, and poor at accompanying Ling Qi in action. They're also not the only formations in existence. inb4 song formations were locked behind the grandmistress music cache option in the corpse immortal's ring )

That's just what I can think about off the top of my head. I'm sure there's other subjects, but the barrier to coming up with them is limited material to work with in terms of Xuan Shi's character. There's one unambiguously sensible choice here, and it's the same rote question she's been hitting every other one of her friends with because it's genuinely a question that makes sense. The war is a big deal. The other options I could think of are superficial or awkward/jump the gun. There's some other more personal subjects I'm curious about, but they're jumping the gun even more and make more sense in the adventure itself or the other vote presented to us at the moment.

Getting to know Xuan Shi is basically the objective of this adventure. It ties into broader themes and explorations of the sect's current state as an added, poignant, bonus. But ultimately it's about Xuan Shi, and a lot of the signposting on that exploration of the sect is going to be Xuan Shi's reaction to whatever we find and experience in the sword's domain. He's the one with the relevant connection, and we're going to be piggybacking on it. In that light, this vote seems likely to expand the scope of our understanding on the relevant subjects a little bit. It should help us take in the info we stumble onto during the adventure just that little bit better.

But on the other hand, if we had picked Sun Liling as our housemate, Ling Qi's influence and social actions with Sun Liling may well have softened Sun's personality and made her a better person, the same way that LQ influenced Bai Meizhen.

You're definitely right.

But........ Then we wouldn't have blushing lesbian snek being a lovable dork.

I just love BM's character development throughout the entire story.

Wahoooo!! This means we got invited to watch the triwizard cup right?? I was so gutted that our xanxia quest was gonna omit the rival schools martial arts tournament. Za faitingu!!

Wait, how the heck did Suyin get twin tails into her spidery, zombie-y dungeon complete with all new fully articulated spider zombie?

... OOC what do we even get out of "more engaging conversation"... an extra dose of dry sarcasm for our reading enjoyment?... cultivation hints? (cause really what else does LQ find engaging?)

Indulging Donatello's fangasm seems like it could help
-get gloomy excalibur's pokedex data, (gotta be able to rap w/ object spirits for our upcoming dress discussions)
-unlock side character back story, (MOAR lore!)
-and grow the harem by grinding affection levels to the max. (because friendship is magic)
Stronger friendship = gameplay bonus and more character development = narrative bonus.

Maybe getting to know Squirt better will also get us a shot at Kongyou. Wanna smack her into the next plane of existence then dream step and do it again. Our lil kappa is too thirsty and needs an intervention. We can't let Franklin be unaware that his new friend manipulated us all into danger so she could nom on a desperate last stand.

Am now traumatized and want no part of fox turtle babies after @TimEd 's pic.

With her load out of beam cannon, beam saber, composite life fiber armor, back mounted thrusters and beam shield, I'd consider EFSF.... I mean ESSF CRX-002 a general purpose offensive unit built for mobility, ranged bombardment and CQ skirmishing rather than a support unit.
You forgot her group buffs. She's a mobile support/bombardment unit that can also skirmish. Reminds you how impressive her duel was with the G7 Shishigui was, dueling is her tertiary skill set. If she had someone like Bai Meizhen or Xuan Shi to be the vanguard/tank while she buffed and attacked from range they might have been able to 2 v 1 him. Until he pulled that sacrifice bullshit of course.

Ling Qi was that close to snagging Liling (in addition to Meizhen) as housemates at the start of Forge. If only she hadn't failed that Composure check. Ah, what could have been...

Finally Sun Liling turned her head slightly, not lowering the arms held behind her head. The pose made it difficult to ignore the fabric strained to near breaking across across her chest. Ling Qi managed it with only a minor spike of irritation though, returning her attention to the other girl's face. It was somewhat disturbing to note that the other girl's eyes were the color of freshly spilt blood. The most attention grabbing feature was probably the three thin white lines that traced down across her nose and lips. It looked like something had raked it's claws down her face. "The snake blow you off then?" She asked abruptly jarring Ling Qi from her observations.

The other girl was making no effort to keep her voice down, and Ling Qi was all to aware of the silence from the girls closest to them. She managed not to squirm at the feeling of being in the spotlight though, if only just. "I… no," she still stumbled over the words though. "How did you…"

"I wanted to see what had the geese back their squawking," she drawled lazily. "I guess I gotta give you points for ambition if nothing else." She glanced at you again, this time for several seconds. Ling Qi felt more than a bit uncomfortable as the other girl seemed to study her from head to toe. "For the moment anyway," she seemed to decide on something. "You don't look completely soft. You might be worth something if you work for it."

1 success needed
6,2. No success

Ling Qi frowned, feeling indignant at being dismissed again, and her next words slip out before she can think about it. "Don't say that as if it's praise," she snapped. "I was trying to be nice you arrogant…" Ling Qi cut herself off, her eyes flying open wide as she stopped in her tracks due to the scar nicked fist suddenly flying toward her nose.

It stopped a hair's breadth from contact, the breeze from the blow enough to make Ling Qi's flyaway strands flutter from her face. The others behind them stopping dead in their tracks as well. She had never even seen Sun Liling move or change posture, but the girl was now facing her, legs bent arm extended upward to strike directly at your face. Her crimson eyes were hard and cold for a moment as tense seconds ticked by. Then she withdrew her fist and chuckled. "Made ya flinch," she said in a voice laced with amusement. "But seriously, if you survive the inevitable backstab from the snake, I'll still be around."

As the girl turns away and keeps walking Ling Qi glared at her back, hands balling into fists, hating the flush of embarrassment that she knew was rising on her face. This time she managed to control herself though. Her heart was still pounding in her ears from the fear she had felt in that bare second when she had thought the other girl was going to strike her. She wasn't an experienced fighter, but… she was quite certain she would be in no condition to walk anywhere if the girl had followed through.
