You want to pay to duplicate every art pulled out of the ring? Sure, flog off the Tapestry to the Bao to get the money needed to hire a jade carver to copy every art into new jade that you'll need to also buy...

Unless the cost of copying arts doesn't scale with realm, or I'm vastly misunderstanding what you mean by a "100/100 split", I don't see Xia Lin wanting to cut into her profits from the ring to duplicate the arts. Maybe creating some kind of joint trust that Renxiang oversees to timeshare the arts out could work, but that relies on both Xia Lin and Ling Qi's need for the arts is long term, and if Xia Lin isn't thinking long term then she'd be looking at liquid value, at which point neither option I've presented are hapening.

IIRC, we have no idea what it costs to copy arts. For all we know Hanyi could afford it. If it is indeed prohibitively expensive, then that's a fine enough reason, but if it isn't, I see no reason not to.

I would think you need to master an art to be able to copy it reliably

If Hanyi's dad was related to Tsu in some way, could she actually use the tapestry? I'm guessing not considering she's full spirit-blood, but it'd be fun to try it and see.
Edit: Though considering Sixiang's words on the definition of a human/spirit, Hanyi could in fact be a valid user.

I strongly suspect Xia Lin would not value the arts anywhere near as much as Ling Qi does. She has a family and a library of her family style. Stuff close to it could work, but the rest, probably not.

What you are suggesting isn't gift giving. It's trying to use social pressure to get more value from something than it may be worth. Gift giving is very often about gratitude and respect. What about your idea is based in gratitude or respect? I would rather just auction the tapestry off than do some kind of social pressure game that we are going to take advantage off. If we want to start a tradition of reciprocating gifts than we should do that. Instead of whatever this is.

And this continues the long tradition of questers catastrophizing. I said we should ask them for something like a history of their clan or for some formal tutoring in Lei's tradition to show that we respect their contributions to the ES. I also pointed out that we weren't actually taking on much risk if it everything breaks down.

From this we can gather that I'm trying to loot them for everything we can and that anything but the best will result in us casting aspersions on their lineage. Yep, that's a reasonable read.

"His weapon was fortunately intact," Xia Lin continued, opening her other hand, there was the slender brush of dark wood, its head a fine tuft of hairs from some unknown beast. It practically glowed in her spiritual senses, so infused with potent powers. Even if she wasn't a painter or calligrapher its value was obvious.

Ling Qi hummed to herself. "I'll swap you the stone for both. My funding is taken care of at the moment, but my clan doesn't exactly have a lot of treasures yet."

Xia Lin pondered this for a moment, then nodded. "That seems a fair trade, but I have some ill news about the ring."

You know, this bit gave me the impression that LQ had traded the sure-thing cyan stone to Xia Lin in exchange for the chance at potential loot from the gatcha box ring plus the random scraps from the corpse-thing. So I'm a little unclear as to why that changed in the last update.

"Right of first refusal at least, on behalf of my family." Meng Dan said.

"I do have to split this, Xia Lin might end up owning it," Ling Qi pointed out

"If that is your prerogative, I will speak with her," Meng Dan replied.

No. She traded cyan stone for the brush and the robes. The ring is not yet split, loot wise.

Does not tapestry spirit not have have basic rights and can decide where it wants to go?

then again that sword couldnt do much either when confronted by third realms beside shooing them away

No, I don't think the spirit has any say in where it is going. I also don't think it is actually an item spirit either, but I could be wrong on that count.

Just to point out that Meng Dan specifically asked for 'Right of First Refusal'

All that means is that (if Ling Qi agreed) she wouldn't negotiate to sell it, without first seeing if an agreement to sell could be met with the Meng.

It's an entirely fair and excellent offer from him, and would neither force Ling Qi into selling it, nor would it mean the Meng could make a dodgy offer and force her to accept.

Plus based on what we know of their general character and interests the Meng would definitely be one of the clans most interested in the tapestry/genealogy.

I think that we should really give the Meng that right. It will garner us more favor from them, and possibly let us gain insight into what we can sell it for. And the Meng are not only very interested in lineage, they also have among the deepest vaults, possibly the largest save for Bao and Cai. I don't see Cai Shenshua being very interested in Weilu lineage, and for the Bao it will be interesting but not especially important. They will get it anyway. And the Meng already shown some interest in LQ. They probably won't want to exploit her, and would pay, right or no, better than any other.

If we get the tapestry though, I want to only sell it after making a poking party, and have all our friends, including non emerald sea natives like Meizhen and hopefully Xiulan, touch it. And If possible, maybe do as some suggested and get it to some slums, letting everyone there touch it. Just to annoy the spirit

Argent Infrastructure
It is impossible to speak of the Argent Peak Sect's history in any detail without acknowledging the strange qi vents which give the Sect its name. First recorded in the reports of the Xi era expansion and subjugation of the southern tribes, the Argent Vents were at first simply thought to be signs of spirit stone veins in the peaks. Although this was not entirely correct, it spurred significant assets to be assigned to capturing and settling the region, driving away the barbarians who squatted around the vents.

Early mining efforts turned out to be disappointing, while seams of spirit stones were present, they were of low quality hardly producing any significant number of green stones. While still lucrative and allowing the Xi to fuel a boom in their common soldiery that allowed better maintenance of their claims, institutional interest soon turned elsewhere.

Thankfully, some among those assigned to governorship of the region found an interest in the vents. Many spirit stone rich regions have something similar, clefts and crevices that expel compressed spiritual energies from the spirit stone seams under the earth. Typically these indicate high potency stone deposits where the energies flowing along natural lines rupture the physical earth. This is the source of Mount Tai's eternal shroud of spiritually potent mist.

This proved wrong for the Argent Vents, to the frustration of the Xi. Argent Vents rather than being points where energies become overpressurized are instead points where opposing qi types meet and find perfect equilibrium. The pure energies produced by this transmute surrounding materials in low grade but relatively quickly renewing spirit stones. Scholars remain uncertain what causes this unique interaction, which does not occur anywhere else in the Empire.

Unfortunately early mining efforts disrupted this equilibrium in many places, and spirit stone renewal theory was not so far advanced, so most of these unique seams were simply mined out and destroyed. In following years this served to highlight the remaining vents effects. The Argent Peaks region was a calm and temperate place, avoided by more tempestuous spirits and the worse of the floods and rockslides endemic to other portions of the Wall.

As the vents broke down however, this began to change. Scholars among the Xi left to govern began to theorize that the energies released by the vents had neutralizing effects on unbalanced and chaotic qi. Presenting their findings to the counts of clan Li, who had been assigned administration of the center-south territories, they were given funds to study the region. This was the origin of the Argent Sect.

What then are the benefits of Argent Qi? Argent Qi is calm and accepting, it is inherently balanced in a way few other energies are. This enables the cultivation of Argent Qi to interact smoothly with all but a small number of qi types. It is superb for the cultivation of qi pools in young cultivators, since energies gained from its cultivation arts do not introduce conflict with that generated by other arts, and even when no longer cultivated, Argent Qi easily transforms into other types with minimal loss.
Similarly, though it it harshly limited in supply, the liquid in Argent Vents is highly useful as a base for elixirs and pills. Most such bases introduce at least some level of impurity to the mixture, but the Argent fluid is on the short list of materials which do not.

In addition, despite the difficulty of making a study of such personal things, those who cultivate Argent Qi often report less discomfort and injury when attempting early realm breakthroughs and the clearing of meridians, which while a minor effect is quite helpful for the maintenance of armed forces and the teaching of children.

There are a number of theories as to how this came about. Some scholars say that the Argent region lays upon an exact and unique crossing point in the world's meridians. Other scholars posit that the particular arrangement of the mountains in the region produces a sort of natural geomantic focus. Others posit that the liquid which is found within Argent vents is a not a byproduct, but an actual source, a naturally occurring deposit that simply does not occur elsewhere within the lands claimed by the empire.

What is known is that Argent Vents are extremely reliant on natural geomancy, that is the lines of energy created by the arrangements of geography and natural processes. Much of the Sect's efforts has been bent toward restoring the damage done by early mining, and this research has born much fruit. In early days the sect learned enough to halt the degradation of the remaining sites, via careful landscaping and restoration programs.

Over time, sect scholars discovered that it was possible to restore 'dead' vents through careful transplantation of liquid and crystal growths to the sites, in a manner akin to making cuttings from trees bloom. It is a slow process however, and even in the modern day the oldest of the 'repaired' vents do not match the potency of the remaining original sites.

Slow as it is, there are many reasons to be optimistic. It has been tested and proven that the rate of recovery is improved as more sites are repaired and grow, and so although it has been millenia, the full recovery of the region may be only a scant few centuries away! With the last of the ruined sites documented and seeded, the picture of the original geomantic framework is becoming clearer by the day.

Alas for the hastiness of our ancestors! Still, the Sect's understanding has advanced greatly, and with its Great Sect Status, some have even begun experimentation into the establishment of wholly new sites, and increases in the potency and spread rate of Argent Qi.

One day, if such is possible the availability of low ranking stones may even increase exponentially! The effects of such an expansion would no doubt have tremendous effects on the quality of life for all within the empire!

Reading between the lines, these "barbarians" were actually maintaining and expanding the geomancy that generates the Argent vents, yeah? It would be very odd for any people to not make use of such powerful sites that not only augmented cultivation but also suppressed natural disasters.

(Unless, of course, there was a religious prohibition against exploiting them. Meaning there's another religious component for the Cloud Tribes' revanchism against the Argent Peak Sect.)

That's a bit of a leap. There's no evidence they understood the vents any better than the early imperials, we just know they used them.

Absolutely pure but mixed.

...is this the original harmonius mix of the Nameless Mother and Father?

Hm. That presumes the barbarians in question are Cloud Nomads whereas them belonging to a southern tribe, and being kicked off due to the expected rich spirit veins being on their land only for that to not pan out. Also squatting sorta implies they have a permanent presence whereas the Cloud Tribes are nomads.

Because we known from Zeqing that the inhabitants worshiped her, and if ruined site sacred to 8 Maidens is any indication they might've been worshiping all 8, which would explain the chaotic qi that works with basically any cultivation method.

Alternatively the Moon is a force of nature, and functions regardless of human will meaning the previous tribes might've simply found the Argent Qi that is a side effect of the 8 Maidens existing. The remainder of the Wall is a much more difficult place to live due to the GS of the Cloud Tribes making it that way... with Argent Qi being a product of the 8 Maidens of the Moon working together to check any northward push of the CN laws.
